261  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is it ethical to break your gambling rules on: March 01, 2024, 11:02:11 PM
.....

So this led me to ask the general public if I am gambling too much, although this excess didn't affect my finances in any way since I still managed to come out with little winning at the end of the day and at some level, my losses are still below 30 percent of my set out money.

I think it depends on what the established rules are and how it would affect you as a whole.

In your case OP, I think avoiding gambling for three (3) consecutive weeks is a fantastic start of knowing and having responsibility. Sure, you have a personal rule wherein you should gamble for like every week but since you have broken this rule and this affected you more in a POSITIVE way, then I do not think that it is unethical.

The situation would be different and my answer would be otherwise if you broke your rule then it affected you in a NEGATIVE manner. For example, if you have a rule where you should only allocate a certain percentage of your income as your gambling fund but you broke this rule by betting more, then this would be unethical.

With the coming bull run, I think perfect opportunity sa atin ito, especially for the forum members na kasali sa signature campaigns, to HOLD our BTCs para ma-take advantage natin yung price sa market. I mean, HODL lang natin ito sa ating mga respective wallets/exchanges and maximize natin yung potential na profit na pwede nating makuha after the bull run.
Given na din na malapit na ang fork, perfect time talaga ngayon to invest and to purchase some BTCs.

Just to ask a question, saan kayo bumibili ng BTC ngayon?

263  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The shocking rate of women interested in gambling. on: March 01, 2024, 04:31:30 PM
I don't understand how it became shocking and surprising to see the growing number of women who were interested in gambling. Gambling is for everyone regardless of gender. In the first place, women are not prohibited to be involved in gambling. It's just that women are not used to being involved in gambling but generation changes as we progress.

Gambling can be considered as a form of entertainment whether online gambling or physical gambling. When we say entertainment, it also includes social community and everyone is welcome to join. Let's normalize already that in today's gambling, more women will be involved, not to compete with the number of men but that's how social interaction works.

I agree with your statement.

Gambling is an act whereby anyone can participate. Class, sex, or race are irrelevant factors that determine the amount of people that are going to try and participate in the said games. I guess the biggest factor on why most people have participated more compared to the past are the advertisements being scattered around all social media platforms and the opportunity that the pandemic brough in shifting activities mostly online.

Yes, educate children is a must for parents so they will stay away from gambling, especially if their country prohibit gambling. With good educations and always takes care their children, parents will make sure that they are doing their best for their children.

Besides children, gambling now reach women and attract them to visit a gambling site. As we know that online gambling is easily to access, women, children, men are playing gambling, even if their country doesn't allow gambling. That can increase the number of addicted people to gambling if no education from the government and family. The government can show ads how dangerous gambling for someone with the affect that the other people around a gambler can get.
For children this is not so sufficient, because often you need to deposit money in some way, and this can be done for a teenager but not for a child.

For women, gambling has always been just as accessible as for men, but I can judge by my social circle, and I see that for women it’s no more than buying a lottery, that’s where all the excitement ends for them, so I can conclude that for women, gambling is not as important as for men, women will spend money on beauty salons, it is a more enjoyable activity for them.

Parents have the vital role of creating an environment that avoids all sorts of influences. They have the responsibility and degree of control to at least minimize exposure of their children to any vices especially during the crucial years of their peak curiosity. If children are curious especially if left unsupervised, then they have the tendency to visit and attempt activities that are meant for adults, and this includes gambling as well.
264  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Satoshi Nakamoto's networth ever being rated? on: March 01, 2024, 03:42:05 PM
Just to reiterate what most have already mentioned, it can be challenging to know the exact net worth of Satoshi given that his identity is completely unknown. No one really knows who or what he/she is- he may be a part of an organization; or even just a single person; or a group of people.

While it may be possible to get a glimpse on the amount of BTCs he has given that you can check the addresses of his wallet and the transactions that he made, I do think it is futile to do so.

Satoshi Nakamoto, up until this day, is one of the greatest mysteries that we have yet to discover. Everyone is curious about his identity- perhaps he intentionally did concealed his whereabouts for his safety, etc.
265  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: your perception about gambling on: March 01, 2024, 02:28:39 PM
however, my question here now is : is gambling restricted to some certain kind of individuals or class?  or is there any stratification when it comes to playing gambling ?please your opinions here here will actually quench my curiosity.

I do not think that there are any gambling restrictions placed on adults.

The only restrictions that I know are more on the morality side of things (e.g. underage gamblers, religion, etc.) but if you are asking about restrictions, I doubt so.

Remember that gambling is a business and their aim is to accumulate profit. If they were to implement multiple restrictions as to a certain kind of class, then they are limiting their player base and their potential customers from their establishment. Ultimately, such restriction would mean a profit loss on their part which is I believe that gambling establishments have NO restrictions on adults.

No gambling is not restricted to some individuals or classes of people, anyone is allowed to gamble. Of course there are some age related restrictions but other than that I don't think there's any kind of restriction. If a country's law doesn't allow gambling and the country takes strict action against casinos then in such places it might be not possible to gamble, but many people even from such countries use VPNs to gamble on online casino sites. No stratification at all when it comes to gambling, like I said above everyone is allowed to gamble.
The restrictions on gambling has always been on age and not class or even financial capabilities, there are restrictions based on countries too which I don't fail to recognize too. Theses restirctions are usually placed for reasons sometimes to protect the individuals but then these people most times don't get to understand and want to just gamble especially so they can make money and not even to have fun. Every other person who's allowed to gamble can gamble but still with the caution of gambling responsibly.

Gambling should be done with care even if you are gambling responsibly then you wouldn't be bothered about been irresponsible or loosing money .

Yup I definitely agree with you.

I doubt that there exist some kind of prejudice that will limit a specific kind of class/race from entering a gambling establishment given that the latter is a business. If there exist some kind of restrictions outside of this, ultimately, the gambling establishment would suffer in the long run.
266  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Mom won 50,000$ in Lottery on: March 01, 2024, 12:12:09 PM
Congratulations to her. $50000 is not a small amount of money. If I win this kind of money, I will quit gambling and just focus on business. It is not that I use gambling as business. I play games with small amount of money and I only go for casinos games and sport betting with small odds and not determine to win big amount like this. But it is exciting to read something like this. Congratulations to her again.

Yes definitely! $5000 will go a long way especially that I live in a third-world country where resources are relatively expensive due to the minimum wage laws of our country.

$50,000 can give you a decent condominium unit which can definitely alleviate majority of your expenses. Given that the minimum wage in the country is $10-$12/day, $50,000 can somehow be a life-changing moment to some people that can push them away from poverty.

Everyone wants to win like this. But not everyone will be lucky in gambling. Those who give up gambling cannot expect to win from gambling. A gambler must try. If he tries his best, he may or may not get lucky at some point. The person who won such a big win never thought that he would win from gambling. He tried and continued gambling. It's not a bad idea to try to get lucky if you can keep the amount you can lose in the bet within control. He will definitely get a chance to live a better life. The incident you shared was even more exciting. $5000 may have been a good amount for the lucky winner but it's anyone's guess what level of joy she must have gone to when she found out that she had won not $5000 but $50000.

Only a few people can reach this kind of luck even if everyone hopes that they may soon experience this. This is what makes gambling dangerous- it gives you hope of seeing the other side (assuming that you've won) but it may be seemingly impossible, yet simple.
267  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is it possible to inherit a gambling debt? on: March 01, 2024, 04:55:52 AM
The high rate of gamblers who take loan for gambling purposes is quite alarming, and most of them are fathers to kids. Most of them don't end up taking care of their debt before passing. What happens to the funds, when the lender comes for his money? It's quite a tough one for a person who isn't a gambler to inherit a trouble from a gambling dad. Such things also increase the anger of the society on gamblers, because the addicts are, also, good at extending their problem gambling to other close relatives. Could it be talked through in the law court?

This depends on the law of the country but I will answer it based here in the Philippines.

If you borrow money to a creditor, you as a debtor have an obligation to pay the corresponding debt within the terms agreed upon on the contract. If you pail to settle your obligation upon the stipulated date, with a demand coming from your creditor, then you put yourself into a risk of having a case filed against you (collection of a sum of money). If you still failed to pay despite the court order, then the creditor may order the sheriff to garnish your personal property as payment for your corresponding debt. Assuming that you have no properties left but you have children, the debt will NOT be passed around and the creditor suffers the ultimate injury.

Again, this is highly situational and dependent on the laws of the country that you are staying on. Generally, a debt cannot be transferred nor inherited since the legal personality of a person is extinguished upon his death and there are other ways in order to recover such debt (like the example that I have given above).
268  Other / Off-topic / Re: Does having children have an influence on gambling habits? on: February 29, 2024, 11:59:35 PM
Yes definitely! Being a parent can have a huge impact on all of your habits especially that you are obligated to meet your responsibilities in the welfare of your children. In addition, there are tons of sacrifices that a parent must do in order to give the best of the care for their children.

For example, if you are addicted to gambling and you allocate a specific percentage of your income to it, then you must sacrifice and avoid (if possible) all throughout gambling since that allocation must be catered to your children. Not to mention, you must not influence your children to any environment that may affect their general welfare.

Gambling is a high responsibility in itself and for any family person most especially if you are the financial supplier and all the family members depend on you, it then means that you have to reduce your gambling activities not even only in the amount you use to gamble, but also in your time management,  because combining gambling with family won't be an easy thing unless you choose to deliberately neglect one to the other.

Also when you have a limited bankroll you then need to calculate your reserves based on your expenses and if you discover that involving gambling in your daily expenses will drain you, since you are no longer single but have a family to fend for, it very advisable to quiet gambling or gamble with a limited amount of money that will not affect your family upkeep.

Having a family with kids will indeed change your life's choices especially when it comes to your gambling lifestyle. You are hypocrite if you will say to others that nothing change when you become a family man or woman. You have other priorities now and you are not only considering yourself in this journey but also other people who happen to be your loved ones.

I definitely agree with you.

If OP thinks that having children will not change anything with their gambling habits then it is best for him to avoid kids for the meantime. Being a parent carries a huge responsibility that you must fulfill to the best of your ability.
269  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Support, do not criticize. on: February 29, 2024, 03:45:38 PM
If you criticize and mock them, they may nurse in the heart the mindset that gambling is impossible to stop, or even stop trying to stop gambling because you have already made them feel like they can never do it.

There is a technique called "negative reinforcement" where you apply a punishment for people who perform badly on their respective duties. On the other hand, there is also what we call "positive reinforcement" where we reward people when they perform an activity that is commendable.

In the given scenario that you have provided OP, it is better if we apply positive reinforcement wherein we give commendations and rewards for people who show progress in dealing with their addiction in gambling. Instead of humiliating or punishing them for their behavior due to relapses, it is definitely better if we continue to encourage and show support to their progress.

At the end of the day, if you show your genuine support and care for these people who struggle in combating addiction, then the chances of them getting better would be higher.
270  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Bitcoin new ATH malapit na! on: February 29, 2024, 02:09:24 PM

Siguro next year na ako mageexpect ng higher than 100K if ever maging support na itong previous ATH natin.

Actually dahil dito, first time ko na-experience yung GCrypto ng GCash and mabilis lang yung transaction!

Last night, I bought p800 worth of BTC and ang nareceive ko na total value niya is p765 worth of BTC.

271  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling still pays regardless of our losses on: February 29, 2024, 12:18:26 PM
I think this is highly dependent on the perspective of the player whenever they gamble especially if profit is their main goal on this activity.

There are two (2) types of people who gamble, namely:
  • People who gamble for fun/entertainment; and/or
  • People who gamble primarily for profit.

Obviously, people who gamble for entertainment would definitely feel that every time they gamble, such is not a waste as they view it as a source of their satisfaction. Regardless of the result, whether they win or lose, they would be satisfied as it filled their urge to feel mixed emotions in a gambling game.

On the other hand, people who gamble for profit are the ones who may feel the losses more. The determining factor on whether they would continue or not is if they won and/or profited in their gambling activity.
272  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Future of Gambling on: February 29, 2024, 09:45:26 AM
I am excited to see the comments. Please comment on where you think the future of gambling will be. What kinds of benefits will the gambling experience of the future bring in all walks of gambling? Will it be a good thing or a bad thing? What do you think makes the gambling experience the best in your opinion? Pick and choose any / all questions to be answered- I can't wait to see what everyone says.

Cheers,

TREAD93

Well since you have mentioned about augmented reality, I do think that it may bring an innovation in the gambling platform space but it will not be as popular compared to your established online casino websites.

The reason is that there is only a limited amount of people who can afford a virtual reality type of gambling. Plus if you truly want to experience that kind of environment, it is better that you just visit a physical casino as you also get to receive lots of complementaries and promos.

I believe that the future of gambling is by introducing games that are interactive, such was what Rollbit did with its duel arena. It is a 0% house edge game where you  get to compete with other people in a PvP style server. With that kind of innovation, I do think that the future of gambling would revolve around that kind of game where interaction is key with other people.
273  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: When you are not to gamble. on: February 28, 2024, 02:46:22 PM
You can add these two:

When you win little, do not gamble on that day again. But some gamblers will feel like they should continue to gamble and they will lose at the end of the day.

When you are addicted. Quit gambling for a long time.

I agree with your statement.

A lot of the mishaps that happen in a given gambling activity is when the player gets too greedy after they have incurred a win. They tend to feel that their initial reaction to such win is to test their luck again which can ultimately turn the tables against them. This is what I call the "cycle of gambling" where a person who gambles, regardless of the result, would gamble again. If they lost, they will try to recover such loss; and if they won, they will try to test their luck and to see if they will win.. and so on.

I just hope that people realize that gambling should be approached with careful moderation and extreme care due to its nature. If you really plan on making it as an avenue for extra income, then STOP as soon as you have incurred some profits along the way.
274  Economy / Economics / Re: What did elon do wrong in Twitter on: February 24, 2024, 04:10:25 PM
Wait a minute I used to think online is the next generation if your not going online your toast but elon musk just lost funds in Twitter trying to take it fully online. He sacked almost all the employees ,replaced them with bots and now he is trying   to sell it . Don't mistake me I'm not trying to criticise the dude but i don't get why this happened for real his plan was nice trying to reduce cost of work . But what went wrong
Twitter usage is really going down I think the app is more boring . What do you think we all know elon this might be another business Strategy right Undecided

First of all, it was mismanagement.

Elon Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion and he had no concrete plan on how to execute his plans on making it a global platform. In fact, he used this platform solely to address his issues and problems which made it somehow political rather than a platform for free spech.

Second, it was poor planning.

In addition to what I have mentioned above, Elon Musk literally eliminated like half of the executives and employees of Twitter who mostly worked there for years. With such poor planning, he lost majority of its users on the first month and the trust that people had with Twitter was gone. He focused too much on projecting his own plans on Twitter that it somehow self-destruct when it became a political platform rather than a social one.

Lastly, the re-branding.

Sure, Elon Musk wanted to re-brand Twitter and named it to "X" but it just destroyed the image further. People mostly know Twitter as Twitter; in fact we even call it Twitter despite it being re-branded to X already. With its name already established, it somehow ruined further its reputation that led to its downfall continuously even as we speak currently.
275  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What was your first cryptocurrency? Come share your story! on: February 24, 2024, 03:26:32 PM
Most people were here because they care about bitcoin and discover this platform from their search or quest to know more about bitcoin, so as by default, i expect everyone here being a member to at least be able to afford having the least amount of bitcoin they are holding even though they may as well include other crypto portfolios, bitcoin should be the first and major, if others will follow, just as we expect that the reason for everyone joining here is bitcoin.

Well, the forum itself is named BITCOINtalk.org which means that the first cryptocurrency that people would receive would most likely be BTC.

To share my story, I remember back in 2017 when I first heard about BTC. I was literally confused at first and I also considered this as a scam because I thought this is a glorified name for a new m2m scam which was prominent during that year. But when I read threads about people sharing their investments, it made be believe that there is an unexploited opportunity behind this forum.

When I first received my BTCs back in participating in campaign signatures, I was definitely happy and ecstatic. Knowing that I have the opportunity to earn investments online with my hard-work gave me that inspiration to share my story to others as well.
276  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Rigging in sports:My Personal Perspective and discussion finding sus. sports on: February 24, 2024, 02:52:11 PM
Just to add on the list you provided, there was a scandal back in 2021 called the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup game-fixing scandal1 which involved two (2) basketball teams who played for a loss. Funny thing is, the game ended with a score of 27-13 and there were suspicions arising from that said event.

If you would watch the video that I will post below, there is an unusual amount of free throws made and players were clearly missing it. Shots were intentionally missed and the players were playing half-assed the whole game. At the end, the Philippines sought their own investigation, which revoked the license of those teams and suspended + fined the players and coaches.

If anyone is curious, here is a YouTube video of the game where you can watch it for yourself.

277  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it too advanced to get into Bitcoin now? on: February 24, 2024, 02:29:39 PM
If there is one thing that I have learned over the past years ever since I started in this forum, it is always to maximize the opportunity to invest while you have the resources for it.

Back in 2017, the price of 1 BTC was around ~$4,000. I thought that the price of BTC will be stable at that point which led me to not invest and increase my BTCs in the process. Fast forward to the following year, the price skyrocketed to $19,000 and it crashed thereafter.

MORAL OF THE STORY:
Invest while you have the resources. Equip yourself with the knowledge and information so you can take opportunity of the upcoming fork that will happen in the following months this year. While you have the money and resources, use at least 5-8% of your total monthly income to invest it for cryptocurrencies for long-term investment.
278  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A lot of gambling sites are scams ! on: February 24, 2024, 01:03:29 PM
Other sites initially deal transparently and seek to gain the trust of the players until they obtain a large audience. Then they begin their hellish plans. So , the majority of gambling sites are unsafe and it's hard to trust them .

How can I choose the best betting site that provides me with a safe betting experience?

This is precisely the reason on why I recommend to everyone that you choose a gambling website that is already established compared to new ones even if the latter may have an attractive offer with their promotions.

If you are looking for a gambling website to use your funds on, the first step is to always check this forum for any updates/information regarding that online gambling platform. You have the responsibility to check the feedback and any other concerns that can give you an overview about their status.

Quote
Does this site provide a high level of safety for its players?
I need help from those with experience in this field

Again, check this forum under the ANN threads before you start gambling in a designated platform. With each feedback that you read, this will give you an understanding on how the gambling platform/s is/are operating.

In conclusion, it is better to choose a gambling platform that is already established compared to a new gambling platform that has attractive rates/promotions but they do NOT contain any review/feedback. Always prioritise safety over rewards and offers.

I never see gambling as a bad activity unless you gives yourself up to it in controlling your emotions. So I think these two guys knew they were at the wrong side of it that is why they never wanted me to know they were into gambling.

That is actually very kind of your friends to not let you in this activity. Given that it is potentially addicting and dangerous, they probably understand that it is better if they keep it to themselves than to influence others which has the potential to spiral out of control.

Just in, he is on medical attention after he slumped as a result of loosing a borrowed fund meant for a business re-startup after the gamble made him squandered his previous business.
At his regained to a normal state of health, he explained that he thought he would be lucky to win at the stake so as he could expand his intended business with a bigger capital.
At a point I don't see any business oriented ideal in this Friend because $1,000 ls good enough for a start of lucrative businesses.

I think that is just some rationalizing done by your friend to justify his actions in gambling.

I agree, $1,000 is not enough to start a business. He is probably that desperate to borrow money in order to fund his gambling addiction but you can clearly observe that he cannot control his urges. Unfortunately, your friend is in a very tight position where he got stuck in the cycle of gambling.
280  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Couple won the jackpot but split soon after! on: February 24, 2024, 11:13:04 AM
Not that surprising because they arent married, much as people think its old fashioned it does help legally when any dispute like this comes up.   The Lottery wont change their minds and help him split it as all indicators are she paid for the ticket simple as that, the owner always has the rights in a dispute.

Same reason to be cautious of syndicates also, ideally there  is some standard form to fill out by all players so that nothing can be disputed later.  I knew someone who ran a syndicate, on a big win (sub million) he just said well it was my own ticket so its all mine.  They hadnt recorded exact numbers apparently etc.  details matter.

This is the reason on why it is very important that if you would gamble, only use your own funds to purchase the ticket.

It is going to be very difficult if you borrowed money and they purchased the ticket for the lottery. Since the ticket came from them, then they have a case that cannot be disputed against them. They will own the rights of the ticket which will put you on a difficult position to fight for.

This is exactly what happened to this guy- he purchased the ticket using the bank account of his alleged "girlfriend" and he won the lottery. Since they are actually not married, it is considered that no conjugal partnership exists between the couples. Under the spirit of the law, the man is not legally entitled to reimburse more than the price of the lottery ticket to his friend. But on the other hand, on the spirit of morality and fairness, then the woman has at least equal rights to 1/2 portion of the winnings that the man won.
