442  Economy / Lending / Re: Offering Loans [No Collateral] on: August 10, 2015, 04:41:46 PM
Amount: .15 BTC
Interest: .003 / day
Collateral: BTCTalk Account
Reason: Investment Trading
Repayment Amount:
Repayment Date: 8/18/15
BTC Address: 1GM6bEdzJdZN535cwposfRoFfiqk1YgBQf

*Or whatever amount approved with my account as collateral.
Now your account in negative rating just because of this no amount is possible against this account

All because of 1 person , Quickseller , who marked me the 1st day I was here for no reason. Doesn't seem fair to me.

No. Many other users, including me, have left negative feedbacks for your account because of your constant loan requests. This is fair!
443  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Ledger Wallet - Smartcard security for your bitcoins on: August 10, 2015, 04:39:19 PM
have duo hw1 and have set both up to use the same seed and can pair multiple devices to the wallet. however, it appears transaction authorisations are only push out successfully to the last paired device. is there a way to get this to work for more than one paired device?

Please ask here -- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=134999.0.
444  Other / Meta / Re: Password reset isn't working on: August 10, 2015, 04:38:11 PM
I'm wondering why I got no reset email for my Account Salmen.
With this Account I got a reset mail without any problems.

Do as I say! Reset your account by email, i.e. instead of entering username, enter your email address associated with that account and check whether you get an email or not.
445  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: (Almost sure)brainwallet.org stole 22BTC from me on: August 10, 2015, 04:31:33 PM
There are so many varied opinion and arguments here, but the facts remain, there's a new article about people losing money to a web wallet, or a service, or such every other day.

Isin't it about time people start learning that coalescing BTC to centralized security is just lowering the security of (and probably theirs) Bitcoin?

It was not the problem of Brainwallet.org. It was hacked obviously because the passphrase was weak. Regardless, I don't understand why are you mentioning centralized when it is about Brainwallet.org. Please don't spam!

As far as i know, Brainwallet.org is a web resource, which is centralizing your Bitcoin (your security is being weakened and made more easily attackable because of).
Web resources are constantly getting hacked, so yes, even though a web resource can be properly secured and maybe Brainwallet.org was, it still has the big vulnerability of coalescing BTC into one vulnerable environment.

Then again maybe it wasn't. I can't personally vouch that Brainwallet.org's deterministic algorithm was secure, or that there was no security vulnerability on their side, or exploits, or was legit.

So yes this is centralizing your Bitcoin security/vulnerability.

It is a website of a bundle of tools which can also be used locally. You can download it and run it offline locally. You can also load it online and then turn off internet connection. This is not a online wallet or something. Brainwallets are hacked because of the poor/weak passphrases used.

If using a tool is centralizing Bitcoin's security, then I am sorry for you!

From now and on, please use those which are open sourced and could be run locally.
Generating a private key on a website is a big no..
this would apply too to those vanity address provider..
we should always consult back to the basic law.. there is a very good reason it was called a private key..
Especially never put anything over half a coin on a web wallet that has the private key and you don't. It is ridiculous this keeps happening.

If you are talking about Brainwallet.org, it is not a web wallet. It is a website of a bundle of tools which can also be used locally.

Has anyone heard of www.e-coin.io ?  Apparently they offer a Visa debit card, which is both fiat and digital currency.

Yes. It looks like legit and IIRC, user 'jdebunt' has used this debit card.
447  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BrainWallet Defcon Attack Discussion, Advice, Q&A, Brainflayer Info, etc. on: August 10, 2015, 12:52:50 PM
I was never a fan of brainwallet... The idea sounded too insecure to me. I hope those seed words used by electrum are safer.

If you memorize Electrum seed, it will be a brainwallet. Roll Eyes Wink

449  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: How much do you make through faucets? on: August 10, 2015, 11:44:33 AM
i spend 8 hour to earn bitcoin using faucet not bad my earning is 200k satoshi daily. my favorite faucet payment if using faucetbox

You are spending 8 hours and earning just 0.06BTC per month? That's actually a bad earning IMHO! I am earning from 0.06BTC to 0.3BTC per week by posting here! I am only active for 2-6 hours on working days and on weekends, sometimes I will be online for 6-15 hours. A friendly advice: don't waste your time too much on faucets to earn so little amount! You could get much more than that by participating in this forum (honestly)!

451  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to sign a message?! on: August 10, 2015, 10:20:27 AM
Brainwallet is now Closed Permanently[1,2] and thus there is currently no way to verify a signed message with having a client or using a service that requires a login. At least to my knowledge. If you know about a site that is able to verify signatures please let me know. For more about why the site is down see these[3] defcon slides or wait for the speech to be available as video. The tl;dr is: brainwallets are bad if done wrong and most do it wrong. My assumption currently is that this is the reason the site is down, which sadly also takes down the features that can be used without risk.

As Im currently not at home it will take some time till more verify guides are available.

Awesome, will add it ASAP.

Yeah! It uses jackjack's signing/verifying tool - jasvet.

http://coinig.com/. seems to work well, you just need to enter the info in 3 fields rather than in a block with headers.

You can do the same in Brainwallet.org too!

Do you know how to contact the devs? Its jackjack's lib, but there seems to be something wrong. This is what happened when I tried to make the picture just now.

452  Other / Meta / Re: Is there any way to recover PMs on: August 10, 2015, 07:56:58 AM
Is it possible for bad bear to dig the messages which are deleted permanently because deleted by both parties sender as well as receiver.

If theymos can't do, then BadBear can't. However, theymos maybe able to dig a backup and restore your PMs but I don't think he would be willing to spend that much time though its worth asking! It maybe better to tell the date of the PM(s) you want to restore, so he will know which backup.

Does BadBear has access to forum backups?

454  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 50 BTC lost because of blank passphrase on: August 09, 2015, 05:27:27 PM
LoLz... I hope you understand *completely* about the Bit-X scam fast... before it is too late. Wink

p.s. I am assuming that you are innocent and do not understand how Bit-X is duping bitcoiners.

BIT-X is legit unlike the scam you are advertising. However, it is also possible they are selling more than 1 PH.

Wah.... having 1 Phs vouch and selling more than that... and you call it legit ? It is another AM hash in the making, which will wipe out millions from people once again.

I didn't say they are selling more than 1 PH, instead I said that it is possible/probable. After all, it is not selling hashes out of thin air like CMW.
455  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [coinb.in] Open Source, Multi Signature, HD Wallet and more! on: August 09, 2015, 05:14:23 PM
Some details that are not clear to me:
1. If I am a third-party (i did not participate in the creation of the multisig address or with any of the transactions or the redeem script) and I look at the blockchain and find a multisig address, will I be able to know which Bitcoin addresses were used to create the multisig address?
2. If I am a third-party (same conditions as above) and I look at the blockchain, I see a confirmed transaction where a multisig address was used to send BTC to some other address, will I be able to know which of the individual Bitcoin addresses used in the creation of the multisig address actually SIGNED the transaction? i.e., if Addresses #1, #2, and 3# were used to create MultiSigAddress #1 (2 of 3 signatures required). Will I be able to know if for #1 and #3 signed the transaction (and that #2 did not participate)?

Regardless of your involvement in creating a P2SH address, you can find which all addresses are needed to sign transaction if that multisig address has send Bitcoins from it. When sending Bitcoins, the redeemScript is included in the transaction. When you have a redeemScript, you can either break it down and find the public keys manually or you can use https://coinb.in/#verify.

456  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Bitcoin Wallet for Android on: August 09, 2015, 04:49:17 PM
Well, how much time does it take to confirm a transaction..its taking too long? I sent 0.002 2 times 2 hours ago and each tx carried a fee of 0.0001 BTC .. Its still unconfirmed.. Is it the problem with the wallet? Smiley thanks!

Most probably, not! Have you checked whether the transactions are broadcasted or not? This can happen because the number of transactions now is high and when miners sort transactions, you maybe in the long queue. Just wait!
457  Other / MultiBit / Re: How to copy bitcoincore wallet to multibit on: August 09, 2015, 11:31:17 AM
You can't import keys into MultiBit anymore. That function was removed. The only thing you can do is to send the Bitcoin from Bitcoin Core to MultiBit.

You can still import to Multibit Classic.
458  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's VDPOS ? on: August 09, 2015, 11:28:31 AM
-nip-
What are VDPOS and HIPOS ?

They are probably two things of Proof-of-Stake(PoS) but I have not heard of VDPoS before and sorry, I still have not understood what exactly is 'HiPoS'.

if they are good strategy why bitcoin developers didn't apply them on BTC ?

Bitcoin is Proof-of-Work(PoW) and will always be PoW unless if "PoS is better" is provable.

Could you comment on the incentives to maintain full nodes described here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Proof_of_Stake

That page is pretty embarrassing.   There is absolutely no mention of the fundamental flaw in PoS consensus which none of your proposals have addressed:  As of yet none of the proof of stake proposals are workable because there is nothing at stake!   If someone is PoS mining it is in their best interest to attempt to concurrently build an honest chain as well as all possible attack forks just in case one of them happens to win.  Under most schemes this is the profit maximizing move, in all I've seen so far its at least neutral.  Mining an attack under PoW actually involves _spending_ something and taking the risk other miners will extend it. PoW works because your work is at stake so even a very small amount of honest miners make mercenary rational miners behave honestly too.

Moreover, I don't see why you argue here that it better aligns incentives. Parties can't mine PoW without having a validating node (or face the extreme risk other miners will toss them off on forks).  All it does is redistribute control, which might be useful— if not for the fact that it makes attacking more attractive for selfish participants.   I was hopeful of these techniques but as of yet I don't see how any can be workable.

This is a problem at any stake. Random coalitions to alter the past can be formed at no cost to those colluding.
Checkpointing is not an alternative to decentralized consensus but central override of it.

The same works for Bitcoin, too.

You misunderstand.  The risk isn't that someone could attack the network, it is that they could attack the network with no cost.

Imagine bitcoin worked using a PoS.  An early adopter had acquired 1M BTC at one time in the past but over time he lost/sold/spent/transferred them.   Today he has no bitcoins but the blockchain contains a history of a time when he did have 1M BTC.  If the amount of the stake being used is <1M BTC he could rewrite history not by using coins he has today (a real cost), not by buying millions of mining rigs (a real cost) but by using the history of the coins he once had (no cost).  He has absolutely nothing at risk and nothing to lose.   If he and potentially others decided to attack the network they would rewrite the blockchain starting from when they had a larger stake, creating a parallel history where they didn't lose/sell/spend/transfer the coins.

They can attack the network based on what they had (but no longer do) in the past.  There is nothing at risk and no cost to the attack.  THAT is the PoS problem.

Quote
If bitcoin miners collude, they could alter the past.

Sure they can, however there is a cost to that attack and there is something at risk which they lose if they fail.  With PoS you can attack the network for "free" using something you had but no longer do.  It is very hard to secure against an attack where the attacker can do so at any time without any cost and without any risk.
459  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nearly got scammed 5 btc on: August 09, 2015, 05:04:30 AM

---Snip Chit-Chat---

You stated in title of the Post "Nearly got scammed 5 btc" but I don't see any bits transacted to the given BTC address the scammer Provided.
These Scamming attempt regularly happen overhear , Instead of Opening a separate thread and Over-heading BCT server by making threads , you could have reported the MSG/Thread to Moderators , you could Even Pm About such Incidents to Tomatocage ,QS,Hilario or other concerned Mods.
Remember Next Time.

Well. If he did not made this thread here, some people might lost 5 BTC to this scammer. I dont think theymos would mind someone posting scamming attempts here.

I never Told Or stated that Theymos Will Mind This but what i mean was it is not Recommended.
There is alot what Recommendation Means. Moreover once you PM regarding any issues to Tomatocage ,QS,Hilario or other concerned Mods they look up if the reason is legit and Nuke the Scammers profile ASAP.

Note: One who don't know about Trust system will also not bother about checking  Scam Accusations section over BCT.

Tomatocage and QS are not mods or staffs. You are mixing people in default trust list with staffs.
460  Other / MultiBit / Re: how to import from multibit classic by private key. on: August 09, 2015, 04:59:30 AM
We don't intend to add this no.
Being able to recover your bitcoin, in extremis, from your wallet words is a real life saver.

With Classic support calls we would always ask if the user had made backups. I only ever recall ONE person saying that they had, normally the reply was a deafening silence.

We call it the 'wallet words promise'. As long as you write down your wallet words and keep them safe, you can get your bitcoin back.

Why don't you do like Electrum does? You can not import private keys to a wallet created with seed, however you can import private keys to a seedless wallet. We can easily switch between these two wallets.

Isn't there a 'sweep' option?
