521  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin losing its P2P efficiency!! on: December 24, 2023, 07:37:52 AM
Yes and No....

The congested Mempool is part of a coordinated attack and not the normal day2day transactions that we are supposed to have on a daily basis. We also know if more people used the Lightning Network for daily transactions, then congestion on the Blockchain would not have been an issue.

We should allow the developers to find counter measures for these kinds of attacks and we should also allow for Bitcoin enthusiasts to solve the mystery of who is behind these attacks.  Wink

Technically, this is not an attack. Some people who love NFT's are willing to pay more than the other people who want to create cheap transactions that's all. The attacker is the dev who implemented this feature and thought it was a good idea. Whoever he is, should be kicked out immediately and never again come close anywhere coding bitcoin.

If this thing keeps going, soon bitcoin will indeed lose its cash functionality completely. It will be a cat pic market.
522  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you have a "gambling problem" which you can sometimes control for years? on: December 23, 2023, 07:43:52 AM
When you can control your problem for a long time, it is not a problem anymore. Yes I used to have that problem with gambling and solved it long time ago and nowadays I don’t even remember having that problem anymore. It is just a memory which happened very very long time ago. I had the same thing with smoking too. Unfortunately, this problem came back to me a few times but I solved this one too. (At least for now lol)  It is under control right now but who knows when will I want to smoke a cig again and lose my control. This is what most addicts have in common. They can’t quit. They only take a break. You need to have a very strong will to have control over yourself.
523  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Local Base Or International Based Online Casino on: December 23, 2023, 07:32:51 AM
From the business owner’s perspective, international players is a better option because they can’t sue you as easily as the local players. Local players will bitch a lot when they lose in a fair game but they won’t let it go. They will run to the police/lawyers and sue you. The bigger bitchy local player base you have, the more lawyers you need to employ and lawyers cost a lot of money. International players will bitch too but they will only write bad reviews about you and that ain’t gonna cost you much because every crypto casino gets bad reviews on some forum somewhere. Go big or go home.
524  Other / Meta / Re: Signature Campaigns in the Service Board on: December 23, 2023, 07:20:09 AM
There is another solution, most campaigns don’t allow legacy addresses (starts with 1…) as a payment address but the biggest crypto exchange in the world (which is binance) don’t offer a segwit deposit address. (Starts with either 3… or bc1…) If I could take my payment to an exchange address then the problem would be solved for me since i can convert my coins to my favorite alt but of course it doesn’t solve the problem for the campaign manager.

I think moving the campaign to altcoin/bounty section isn’t as bad as it sounds. Maybe do it as a temporary precaution then go back to paying in btc when the situation resolves.
525  Economy / Economics / Re: Banks secret door for cheaper cash on: December 23, 2023, 07:10:59 AM
Banks do these types of stuff all the time. It is literally their job to lend money high while borrowing cheap. They do it with us too. They borrow our money for x%, then lend it to somebody else for x+1%. The situation you are talking about is the same thing. Only the customers are different. When there is an opportunity to make money, they will make it unless it's illegal to do so and sometimes even that won’t stop them.

Regular people can trade assets. (Common merchants)

People who own a cash exchange can trade currencies. (Requires a license)

Banks can trade assets, currency and interest. (Requires an expensive license)
526  Other / Meta / Re: Signature Campaigns in the Service Board on: December 22, 2023, 06:40:29 PM
I wouldn't mind taking reputable alts like doge, ltc or xmr as payments... (first 2 is preferred) Doge is especially cheap af to make transactions and it is relatively stable among the alts. Apparently bitcoin is on the way of destroying itself and i don't see why we should suffer the consequences. Btc will eventually smarten up and fix its problems but time is also money. If you start paying in alts, nobody will question your decision imo. Right now it costs more than  $10 (~$12.5) to be included in the next btc block while it costs one fifth of a cent in the dogechain...
527  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: This is beyond craziness on: December 21, 2023, 08:07:51 PM
What the hell is going on? Who can afford so high fees? Fees are so high and people still pay for it, mempool is clogged and getting even more clogged. I thought I was not a poor guy but now I feel like the poorest person in the world Cheesy

And I thought the network was expensive a month ago but look at that shit now:

https://bitcoinfees.net/

Bitcoin is practically impossible to use right now. Whoever is paying them high fees are not right in the head. Maybe it is just the exchanges and similar big guys. No sane individual would pay that many sats to create a transaction. At this point, legacy centralized banking beats bitcoin on every possible metric. (unless btc gets fixed soon)

You can pay 50 sats/byte still the tx confirmation can take a day or even longer... ($10 to get confirmed in 6 hours? whatthadayumm)

I hope this is temporary, otherwise...
528  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Hard Rock to Hire 400 People Ahead of Rockford Casino Opening on: December 21, 2023, 07:56:29 PM
What do you think? Would you like to register?
If you enjoy gambling and don't have a steady employment, this is a good place for you. or perhaps you currently hold a job, but consider this Hard Rock opportunity.
With manager pay of over $70,000 and supervisor wages of over $50,000 annually, the compensation package is very alluring. and a starting wage of $18 per hour for certain other positions.
Read more Here

$50k for a supervisor? That's pretty low imo.

https://livingcost.org/cost/united-states/il/rockford

You will be living in a city where quality of life is low and half of your monthly income will be gone to your expenses. I would register if I were desperate for money but there are far better opportunities out there. You can make a lot more than $4k if you start your own business and have your own customers.

Working for a salary isn't going to take you to anywhere in the long run.

Don't sell your hard work for cheap.
529  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: You lose more when you over trade on: December 21, 2023, 02:39:40 PM
If you listen to the professional traders (i don't mean youtuber freaks), they will tell you that they only make 5-10 trades in year. (sometimes even less) There are opportunities, there are good opportunities and there are "fuck i can't lose this one" kind of opportunities. The first 2 may become bad trades eventually but the last one, they are so good, you don't want want to lose them at any cost. If you spend your cash on average&good trades, you won't have enough money to take advantage of the best trades. Sometimes making no trades make you more money than trading. A good trader knows hat.
530  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is Michael Jordan a gambling addict ? on: December 20, 2023, 07:45:11 PM
https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/michael-jordan-and-gambling-a-brief-history-of-basketballs-most-famous-bettor/

Quote
Despite the damage his reputation took upon the string of 1993 gambling controversies, Jordan didn't quit gambling afterward. While he managed to avoid the limelight in doing so, numerous stories have surfaced from his second Chicago three-peat and beyond. Frequent gambling partner Ron Harper, who both golfed and played cards with Jordan on the team plane as depicted in "The Last Dance," did not join the Bulls until 1994.

This even continued beyond his playing career. Bill Simmons detailed a card game that took place at All-Star Weekend in 2006 that involved Jordan, Charles Oakley and others in The Book of Basketball. In 2019, Chris Paul wagered free sneakers with Jordan at his basketball camp.

Lots of celebs can't find anything else which will keep them busy in life so they find peace in gambling sadly. Sometimes you have anything you want in life but it still gets boring when you have no goals left to achieve... then you make up new goals. Sometimes those goals are as stupid as they can get... like gambling your life savings away.

Jordan probably haven't gone that far. The article is mostly talking of conspiracies anyway. Why? Because it attract clicks. MJ was a god level player and people wonder if he lost his wealth to gambling. It is like watching a train crash. If there is no crash, then it is just another boring day for the masses.
531  Economy / Economics / Re: How to gain money on: December 19, 2023, 08:11:33 PM
Without:
Charity, begging, illegal, stocks, trading.

Start a business. What is your profession, education, interests? Do you have any physical disability? You asked a question and disappeared. If you don't give us any information about yourself we can't help you. You can do freelancer work on upwork if starting a company is too much for you at the moment. Still though, you need to have a profession or at least you need to be interested in something so you can turn it into money. Coding, designing, writing, translating, drawing... There are too many things you can do. Nobody will give you money if you don't give them "something". That's how it works.
532  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to sell yourserlf to potential advertisers | sales pitches included on: December 18, 2023, 06:14:43 PM
That's a very detailed post. Incredible. You are really a businessman. A person like that can be successful anywhere in the world, not only in this forum. With a mindset like that, you can open up a youtube channel, show people how you slice potatoes and still be successful.

I never really liked the idea of using this forum to make business deals especially because I have a business already which keeps me busy all day everyday... (sig camp is just a side income to pay some bills for me)

As you said, owning a business takes everything to another level which wage workers will never know unless they try the same thing.

You talked about "lending money". While it has the risks you explained, there is another one: "usury" (asking too much interest) -which is a crime in many countries and may get you in big trouble. I saw a thread where USDT lending rate was more than 50% annually. This is pretty risky from all sides. It is unlicensed banking in some way.
533  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who should quit, and why? on: December 18, 2023, 03:17:21 PM
Hey house someone need a few clips here, don't know if a post of this exact nature has been discussed though.

In a situation where the both spouse are gamblers. Husband gambles, wife gambles, how can both of them manage the situation in terms of finance and the family affairs especially when children are now involve so that the time both spends on gambling doesn't affect family moments and affairs in general.

Would it help if  one of the couple quit for the other and if that's the case who should quit for who.

Imagine a couple both husband and wife are smoking cigarettes. When one of them quits, the other will look impulsive and disgusting to the side that quit smoking. The situation you talked about describes a similar scenario. If one of them quits gambling then that marriage won't last for long. It is because one of them will be making money and the other will be losing it. Someone will go mad in the end and tell the other one gfy. It is better if both of them quit at the same time. If they like to play however, then play. As long as they don't lose their life savings to their habits, there is no harm there. If one of them goes stupid, then something must be done about it.
534  Economy / Speculation / Re: A big buying opportunity might be on the horizon on: December 18, 2023, 03:10:24 PM
There will always be another rugpull in the future. Maybe the SEC/ETF stuff is the one, maybe not. Lots of people think bitcoin will go above $100k when the SEC approves the Blackrock ETF. I can't stress "lots of" enough here. They all take position to take advantage of this event but what if they are getting fooled? Like you said the opposite can happen too. Another thing is, this ETF is no good for bitcoin in the long run. It will only give a temporary price boost and then blackrock will be the new ruler of the network. I don't think I'm OK with this. Anyway this is just another event which will come and go. There will be many others in the future. Don't feel bad if you miss this one.
535  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: KYC methods which make identity theft more difficult - are they possible? on: December 17, 2023, 08:21:41 PM
They want to know who you are.

They need your ID scan, your selfie, your email, your phone number, sometimes proof of residency…

I don’t think they will give up on any of these. The war is already lost pretty much. Just have fun while they still allow you use cash and make p2p trades. Soon that will be gone too.

They won’t budge. Only take more from us. Unless…

They get a nice punch in the mouth.
536  Economy / Economics / Re: Pay discrimination on: December 17, 2023, 08:17:16 PM
There is no discrimination. It is just supply and demand, basic economics. It is also not the same in every country. In some countries white collar and blue collar workers nearly work for the same salary. Maybe it is different in the US… Not every white collar job gets the same salary anyway. A brain surgeon and a customer support dude are both white collars but we know that a brain surgeon will make way more money. If you tax the shit out of everybody like they do in Europe, then there won’t be any difference between blue and white collar jobs.

There is also another solution; quit your blue collar job, become a white collar worker. Problem solved.

537  Economy / Economics / Re: My view of wealth and assets specially now on: December 17, 2023, 03:56:32 PM
I stay away debt and i don't play or speculate things what not backed of any value.
One day all those debt economy gamblers will learn Lesson hard way , yes you can make money like taking the mortgage and then renting out ....but here is the thing it's like a gamble you can win a lot but can lose fast.

Debt is just a tool like the other assets you have. Staying away from debt religiously is not a wise move. If you take advantage of the low interest rates, debt is a very good way to get rich. I probably owe 30% of my total net worth to the debts I took in the past before the central banks started raising them. When I did that, the rates were low and the prices were skyrocketing. Now the inflation is a bit slowed down because of the high rates but do you know what didn't happen? The prices haven't come down and they won't come down. (low inflation != price drop) They will still go up and more slowly now. That means every loan I took made me profits. Thanks central banks. I owe you one.
538  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who lost money due to dogecoin? on: December 17, 2023, 03:43:00 PM
Not me. Doge went up by 50% recently and made me some nice profits. If you bought this when it was 60 cents, that's your problem and if you check the charts it didn't stay at 60 cents for long. It was a parabolic rise which was't sustainable. If you still believe in doge, now is a great time to collect them cheap coins even though it went up lately. I don't think memelords are done with this project so I am buying with 3.5 hands. My target price is $1 and I know it will hit $1 in the future that's a x10 return which is quite nice. It is not x100 or x1000 but those days are gone now.
539  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Prove me wrong: Gambling is both more relaxing and entertaining than trading! on: December 16, 2023, 09:28:53 PM
You are mostly right about the entertainment angle but this depends on the person too imo. If a person is a fan of watching sports, gambling might be more entertaining for him. If a person don't watch sports, not interested in any form of gambling but likes to manage portfolios, then it is a whole different story. Trading/investing and  gambling have so many things in common but they are also so different than in each other at the same time.

There are many people who lost their interest in watching sports so gambling may mean nothing to them. These people may still get some entertainment from managing their portfolios (especially if they are making the successful trades which generate profits) so your arguments don't apply to these people.

Sometimes making money is more fun than losing it. Just saying.  Tongue
540  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Logic of some gamblers against math on: December 16, 2023, 06:32:11 PM
Hi guys. Someone will explain to me why gamblers have such a strange logic: if a gambler has received a huge multiplier, then he will not withdraw this money. And he will continue to play, saying, "if I'm so lucky, I'll be lucky again now."
But according to the laws of mathematics, the chance of such luck becomes much less, doesn't it?

Gamblers are believers. Sadly they are not believers of math. They are believers of luck. The little they know though, luck is also based on math... The whole point of gambling is to see if you are lucky in that particular moment. Math people and luck people (gamblers) see this event differently. Math people know that you can be lucky if you play once or twice and get away with it while gamblers (luck believers) think they can keep getting lucky if they keep playing. The house edge ensures the profits for the casino in the long run, so luck believers will always get poorer and poorer while math believers won't.
