1281  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Would you bet is chess matches? on: January 05, 2023, 06:44:21 PM
Chess tournaments as well as checkers may be a good sports field for the betting industry. I know I would bet in a chess match as I already did that against a friend. We have gathered a group pf players in my neighbourhood. Thrn we started with a betting game where we could bet on the winner ot we could bet on first player going for a check. Ithe experiment worked out fine. So, if there was a site where you could bet on checkers or chess would you go for it?

I don't think people would make bets on a game that bores them... and we all can agree that watching people playing chess has zero entertainment value. Checkers ain't any different. It is just another boring board game.

I think people rather would bet on e-sports  like DotA, CS, LoL etc. These games provide more entertainment to the youngsters especially.

And old people who like playing chess are usually wise enough to not make a bet on anything.
1282  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should your wife or husband know your seed phrase? on: January 04, 2023, 07:57:39 PM
When a man gets married to a woman to become husband and wife, they become one and everyone expects that they can get to share everything with each other. I know of women who have the passwords to their husbands bank cards and they can make withdrawals on his behalf. I will like to ask the Men here if they have shared their seed phrase with their wife's? I will like to ask the women here how they will feel if their husbands refuse telling them their seed phrase?

Depends on the wife and husband imo.

The history is full of people got back stabbed by their husbands/wives. Even if you trust somebody very much, people might change. There is no easy way out of this. If you trust your wife/husband, then share your keys. Sometimes it is not even about betrayal... what if your spouse is careless about these stuff? If that's the case, you shouldn't let him/her know your keys.

You know what? Sometimes banks make things a lot easier for everybody... Just my 2 sats.
1283  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware wallets vs paper wallets on: January 02, 2023, 03:28:18 PM
Tbh you don’t even need to make it that complicated. (Writing down your priv keys)

Writing down your seed words is even more practical. You may even memorize them. It will come in handy in case you lose your paper wallet somehow. (Gets damaged etc)
1284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin developer @lukedashjr's wallet was hacked on: January 02, 2023, 03:12:49 PM
This is what happens when you reveal your real life identity to the public, especially if you are well known bitcoin developer which means you own at least a few hundreds.

This incident has nothing to do with him being sloppy with the security of his coins, this was an organized attack just because they knew his whereabouts.

Maybe if you are reading this post and have millions of $ in bitcoin be more careful what you reveal about what you have and who you are.

Maybe Satoshi knew something all along, that's why he disappeared given if he actually still alive.

Is is kind of sad, not so long ago I made post this and now this happened.

It is pretty hard to stay anonymous on the internet. Especially if you are a dev that has to work on a project all the time. Fixing bugs, creating updates all the time, sooner or later you will make a mistake and lose your anonymity. Hell, even if you do everything right, you still may lose your anonymity because some clever bastard may hack you.

That’s one of the weaknesses of crypto imo. Crypto itself is bullet proof but their devs aren’t.

Even gmaxwell merited it, as you see I almost described this exact situation.
1285  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware wallets vs paper wallets on: January 02, 2023, 03:08:42 PM
Paper wallets are perfectly safe, if you make it yourself. If you use a third party like bitadress.com then yes, you might get hacked.

In the end a paper wallet is just a paper with your private keys written on. You can create your own on an offline PC and it will be safer than anything else.
1286  Other / Meta / Re: This forum will need explicit rules on the use of AI. on: January 01, 2023, 04:54:56 PM
That's all. Surely the owner and the people most involved in it are thinking about it, but AIs are going to be used on the forum if they are not already being used, as they are being used all over the internet.

Better to come up with clear rules than to go willy-nilly.

How are you going to identify if the user is using AI in his posts? How is anybody going to do that? Do people even have that much free time?

I think whether it is against the rules or nor won't change a thing. You can even command AI to create unique posts.

You just tell it to write something about something, give the post length etc and it is going to make you one.

AI will own everybody.
1287  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gamblers that don't understand basic gambling concepts. on: January 01, 2023, 04:06:11 PM
It only becomes worth it if you are big enough to cause some trouble on the casino's bankroll. Until then would they be making their moves in order to get you out or for you to quit playing on their casino and move on. I've seen some guys screw casinos with huge winnings on sports bets, and whether or not it's due to the help of math (which we know there will be some math involved in there), they still drained the casinos funds and moved happily with what they win, regardless if they get banned on that casino or not. So yes, it's possible to win against the casinos using math on your bets—only if you're a big baller.

It is not worth even if you are bigger than the casino or potentially can send the casino to bankruptcy.

You are going to kill a business and leave lots of people without a job.

Is that worth it?

And the casino is obviously going to fight hard to save itself from a big player. -KYC, I am looking at you-

I would rather have a job and make my first million, instead of ruining a casino and have that headache. In the end, you may never ever get your prize anyway. After all that effort, risking big money, you may not even get your initial deposit.

The bankrupt casino will have two choices:

1- pay the player and file for bankruptcy
2- don't pay the player, find a bullshit excuse and then either disappear or live on as a scam casino

What do you think the casino would do? Grin (The casino would pay you if it is a big casino like stake.com or whatever, but I am not talking about those very big casinos)

And don't even act like this business is run by saints.
1288  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gamblers that don't understand basic gambling concepts. on: January 01, 2023, 01:19:01 PM
For some time now I have seen in this section of the forum a not small percentage of gamblers who do not understand basic statistical concepts of mathematics applied to gambling, such as Return to Player or Expected Value. As a result, it is not surprising that every now and then we see someone who thinks he has found a good system to win casino games by applying some variant of the Martingale. This is despite the fact that these are not complicated concepts and the information is easily accessible to everyone, it is not like 30 years ago. I would say that at least 25% of the people who write in this section fall into this category.

Do you have the same perception as me?

I think a lot of whiny threads of people telling how they ended up losing a lot more than they expected would be minimised if people understood these basic concepts. Although knowing the theory doesn't guarantee it 100% because we sometimes get carried away by emotions.

I am sure that some of those who think they understand these concepts but in reality do not will comment on this thread Grin.

Shh... If people knew math, they wouldn't be gambling in the first place.  Grin

The amount of work required just to make a constant income from gambling is not even worth it and these "strategies" (Arbitrage betting, EV betting etc) are already against the ToS of the casinos. Think about it, if you can generate a reliable streaming income from gambling, you are making the casino smaller. Why would the casino let that happen? They are also in the money making business. Would they want any competition from the players? Of course NO.

Players want the casino's money. The casino wants the players' money.

Everybody wants to win, nobody wants to lose  Grin

Possible? Nope.
1289  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BANKMAN-FRIED PANIC GAMBLES TO REPAY DEBT on: January 01, 2023, 01:13:33 PM
^^ It doesn't matter though if that picture has been doctored or photoshop, the mere fact that he has gamble the money of others, not literally the gambling that he had to bet on a gambling site or casino, just playing along the money that he doesn't owns and loaning it to others, that is already gambling per se to me.

And if by chance he really took the money of other people and gamble it bigtime and think he will win and be able to payback, then something is really wrong with this guy. Specially given the powers that he had that time, billions of dollars, maybe he thinks he can get away with it without any consequences.

Seriously though, exchanges should stop playing hedge fund with their customers' money. These people are not depositing money so the exchange can make leveraged trades and make even more money. They don't have this right. This is outright a fraud.

FTX wasn't the first exchange to play pump and dump with the money they don't own and it is not going to be the last one.

How do we know if binance isn't doing the same thing? I wouldn't believe a word coming out of CZ's mouth tbh.
1290  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling For Fun - What Does This Mean To You? on: December 31, 2022, 11:31:39 AM
I personally think that the phrase "gambling for fun" is widely misunderstood by many gamblers.
They think gambling for fun means gambling without any interest or hunger for profit, no body enjoys loosing money, ...

The house don't enjoy losing money too. Making money is the casino's job. Not yours. Your job is to lose money.

If you don't like to lose money, well d'uh, then don't play.

Think about it, the house wants to win, the player wants to win. Who is going to lose? It is not possible to have 2 winners in a game. It is either a draw (you get back what you wager) or somebody is going to be the loser.

Players often confuse gambling for a full time job. Yes gambling is a job, it is just not the job of the player. It is the job of the casino.
1291  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What would be an ideal KYC solution? on: December 31, 2022, 11:25:41 AM

What would, in your opinion, be the best balance here?

Ideal KYC is no KYC. The best KYC is a dead one.

There are already zero KYC casinos which you can trust. One of them is freebitco.in. You don't have to bow your head and hand over your passport scans every time they ask from you. Fuck that. Binance did this to me when I got a few hundred bucks inside and I was mad af. That's why I am not creating an account on any pro-KYC services anymore.
1292  Economy / Economics / Re: The fight over electric car batteries on: December 31, 2022, 11:15:33 AM
They should be fighting for oil because EV's definitely are not the future. Even Elon is dumping his Tesla shares because he realized that EV's are a dead end. The world's biggest car manufacturer Toyota has recently made a statement and said that the silent majority don't like EV's and still favoring ICE cars. As you know Toyota is not making EV's at the moment (and not planning to do so in the future) because they don't believe in it. They make hybrid cars but they still run on oil mostly.

I think I will buy a full ICE Toyota as my next car. Camry looks badass.
1293  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is left of Bitcoin as a tool to free the financial world on: December 31, 2022, 09:40:55 AM
Day by day the bitcoin price is declining. It seems that the price these days is largely dictated by miners that constantly sell coins and investors that hope for future profits. That is also what most topics in this forum are about. What I see less and less are post about how bitcoin can be used for its intended purpose that is "A purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash" to send "online payments (..) directly from one party to another".
Are people even willing to still follow these idea or is bitcoin doomed to be a place for profit gamblers that will slowly loose its relevance?

For every seller in the market, there is also a buyer.

Stop worrying about the price because it doesn't really mean anything if you are in bitcoin for the tech. Bitcoin works the same way today just like when the price was $60k or $100. It is still by far the most secure/most decentralized chain and only a few alts can come close. (ETH is not one of them)

Also the price don't really have anything to do with the miners anymore because the block reward isn't big enough to have a significant impact on the price.

There is only one reason for the current low prices. There are more sellers than  buyers. It is that simple. When the bears get tired, then bulls will take over. It happened before, it will happen again.

1294  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What are the motives that drive you to gamble? on: December 31, 2022, 09:35:24 AM
for me gambling is only for entertainment as well as testing my luck  Grin
I like this motive, but sometimes you can make your own luck by having the skill to gamble.. Which means skill will overpower luck for certain games.

Certain games like what? Sports? Yes you can affect your luck if you study the teams, players but in the end luck is still going to be the major factor to determine the outcome. Sometimes I wonder, all those people trying to beat the casino and make a living out of gambling, what if they were spending their BPU (brain processing unit) power on the more important matters like learning to code... While they are trying to make easy money from gambling, they learn so much stuff which they don't really need and still can't make money after all those efforts. Kind of sad. Sad
1295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What are your plans for the coming year? on: December 31, 2022, 09:29:22 AM
After this very turbulent year, what are your plans for the coming year?

I had to sell most of my gpus, I managed to sell for a reasonable price, it wasn't at the peak, but it was good.
The price of electricity increased, the ETH POW ended, and the price plummeted.
But I have already witnessed these market changes and I know that things can change quickly, new minable coins can emerge, prices can skyrocket and we have to stay alert to catch the best timing possible.

Here I still have my PSUs, processors, risers and more, ready for a possible comeback.
I'm following the 4080 and look forward to see how much the RTX 4060 Ti will cost. I don't have any RTX 4xxx series yet.

And another important thing I learned in the market: always have a plan, optimistic and pessimistic, so you can take better advantage of the market.
Without a plan you can end up with a bag of worthless coins and/or be left out of a good opportunity.

I know I won't be mining any crypto. There are lots of other more productive jobs I can do instead of buying and running GPU's. When you think about it mining isn't a viable/productive business at all. I'd rather buy and hold crypto and do something else with the free time I get. ETH's move towards PoS was devastating for the miners too. It doesn't make any sense to insist on reviving a dead industry. Just find yourself another job.

Maybe build yourself an online crypto casino. It makes more sense than mining crypto imo.
1296  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Reasons why the 95% of future traders lose all of their money on: December 31, 2022, 09:25:02 AM
It is because trading is a zero sum game. Exchanges are like casinos and currency spread is the house edge. As long as no new money enters to the crypto space, people will try to win against each other. Exchanges will be the winners no matter what other people do because of currency spread.

Traders need to be patient and have a clear mind. Remember the quote: "Bears make money, bulls make money, pigs get slaughtered."
1297  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The reason Dogecoin could fail in the future on: December 30, 2022, 08:20:30 PM
Dogecoin gained popularity due to its low cost as well as its welcoming community. Its community of users behind Dogecoin is involved on various social platforms, and it gained popularity specifically from Reddit.

Doge could fail because -
Dogecoin could fail in the near future due to its outdated blockchain technology. The Dogecoin blockchain is built on the Litecoin blockchain, which is based on Bitcoin's Blockchain.
One of the main issues with old blockchains is that they're not scalable. They are unable to manage large volumes of transactions without slowing down or mistakes.

Investors advice on investing in Dogecoin now as this is being the best time to purchase doge. Dogecoin prices are expected to rise as we approach the annual close. The increase in price fluctuations may eventually assist the price to soar and as per Coinpedia doge price prediction it will close the year at $0.118.

Are these cons going to result in dogecoin price failing or Elon Musk support for it make this coin price increase?

If Doge fails because of its outdated tech, so can ltc and btc. That's the exact reason why doge is not going to fail because tech has nothing to do with its success. Tech can be updated. People say bitcoin is outdated but it had a major update (segwit) few years ago and it helped a lot with the scalability issue. Also there is a second layer (LN) working on BTC.

Doge can have those updates too.

Still though, the tech is not what makes doge valuable. It is the memes. If people suddenly stop liking memes, that's the day doge is going to die.
1298  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: What happens if binance and tether goes down on: December 30, 2022, 01:27:58 PM
Is it really over for crypto if Binance exchange or Tether go bankrupt like FTX? Can crypto survive without the centralise organizations and projects?

A disaster.

Binance's collapse would affect almost everybody in a very bad way and tether's collapse would be ten times worse because almost every exchange is using tether's liquidity nowadays. Almost every crypto is being traded against tether nowadays, not against the US dollar.  Tether going down means liquidity is going down. When here is no liquidity, the price can be anything. $100 or $100k. It doesn't matter because nobody is trading it.
1299  Economy / Economics / Re: Effect of the FIFA world cup on Qatar's economy on: December 30, 2022, 04:55:50 AM
Qatar is already a very rich country. They didn't host WC to make more money because they don't need money. Actually they lost money because of this event. If I remember right this was the most expensive world cup ever hosted. ($200 billion) There is no way Qatar can generate more than $200 billion to make up for the losses.

They might have lost money but they gained something else, they become more visible in the world. Now more people know about this small rich country. That was the biggest reason why they spent so much money on an organisation which they don't even like.
1300  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What are the motives that drive you to gamble? on: December 29, 2022, 08:03:56 AM
I do not know about you guys, but I gamble because I like it and because it is a hobby as well as an addiction. I'm good with myself, as I already admitted to having an addiction but tried to find and apply techniques to avoid getting off track and spending all of my money on gambling. It's quite easy for me to control my gambling anxiety as I already follow strict rules that help me stay on the line.

What about you guys? Do you have any addiction to gambling? What drives you to gamble? Is it the long shot of having a big profit coming in or is gambling simply a way of spending time for you?

I am not addicted to gambling. I play games casually every once in a while and that’s it. I gamble mostly to pass the time and see if I am lucky. I don’t really have that crazy idea of getting rich from gambling because it is a terrible thought which can make you lose everything you got.

Gamblers should be reasonable and have realistic expectations from the bets they make. Being greedy is the worst mistake you can make when you are gambling.
