842  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC Adoption & HODL'ers Increase Yearly Rate and Halving in 2020. Poll! on: December 05, 2019, 05:09:33 AM
adoption is increasing and those who adopt bitcoin are mostly holding it as we aren't yet at mass adoption stage. but the problem with looking at the blockchain for that is you are just seeing data and you can interpret it anyway you like. for example if you see 10 unspent txs they may all belong to an exchange cold storage which has nothing to do with HODL. or if you see 1 output moving every 3 months it may still belong to a HODLer who is moving it for whatever reason such as spending the shitcoin airdrops but still HODLing the bitcoin itself.
so there will always be a certain level of mistake in this kind of analysis such as the one first link is doing.

as for better link, i'm afraid i don't have any. as i said i believe in "merchant adoption" more than "investor adoption" and measuring the former is very hard. all the information we can get comes from payment processors such as Bitpay's annual reports and that shows a huge increase in adoption specially during years where there is a big price rise.

I figure with bitcoin acting as a 'store of value' we will wait quite a few years for the business merchant part of this you state. My own view is Bitcoin will live/die or whatever

on the next 'economic downturn...ie recession'. Then we will know for sure if it is really as 'store of value' or just stuff people were speculating on and in HODL mode with

extra cash, when times were good. Smiley

Anyway, my bet is that Bitcoin is 'virtual land' and am 'accumulating' whatever 'dust' BTC I can before halving on this viewpoint. I'm out of ASIC mining, probably for good

with the halving coming up. So what 'acreage' I have in 'mass' is as much as I figure I can ever get, except for some 'dust' from now until the halving in 2020.

Who knows, but how I'm approaching all this for something to do in my otherwise 'boring' existence! Smiley

I'm finally going to get around to putting this up. I got the beginning of this in around March? sheesh. (had remodeling house projects...don't throw stuff at me in Bitcointalk!)

Anyway, the directions from in the box say that this is the install I should use on this thread.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5053833.msg50506833#msg50506833

but that link is only like 1/2 way through the thread from back in 4/8/19. So I suspect there is a better link than this one by this time? I mean my box has one older than this!

So the question is: "Is there a more current post on this thread I should use instead?"

As for what I'm gonna try to run this on/thru it is a Compaq Evo N800v Laptop running the the latest version of Lubuntu. (Unbuntu Light Version, whatever the latest version is of Lunbuntu, that is). I have 'little' experience, from like 2014 or so, so use 'small words'.

by the by, don't care about the Laptop above power use, I just use it to watch 24/7 anyway, as I did for the KNC Titan's back in the day.

thanks

I'm getting any 'dust' BTC I can now. It is not so much the price of BTC as the fact you are getting BTC before the next halving IMHO.

Thus if these 3 premises are correct, in my view anyway, how I'm approaching this. I also am in full ASIC not big miner any more withdrawal, so it keeps me busy.

1) HODL'ing is stable and or increasing.

2) Adoption is stable and increasing.

The current price is looking sooo tempting  Shocked Should I go full in now, or wait for another dip? Or be rational and buy in 2-3-4 portions? Huh This is the question! Huh

Wait.  For sure.

Perhaps wait for sub $3k.

Why would you want to buy now?  There has ONLY been less than a 50% correction from the $13,880 local high.

This topic may go no place. But I was thinking, I found the below link on the % of HODL'ers are increasing.
This got me thinking about Adoption rates per year. IS BTC Adoption increasing and if so what data is there on this?
considering that the article is talking about the past 12 months and the fact that price has reached the bottom exactly 12 months ago and the accumulation phase which lasted multiple months (price in $3k range) it is obvious that there is a big number of UTXOs that were created at least that long ago and are untouched. it was an excellent entry point.
i don't think it shows increase in adoption as much as you think it does. it is indicating adoption increase but since it coincides with the bottom the increase is intensified.

Quote
Ok..so with the above links I've found 2 links that state that HODL'ing is increasing and Adoption is increasing.
i think we should define adoption as more merchants accepting bitcoin and more transactions taking place not more hodlers and less transactions!
and if you ask me, that is the only reason why price goes up.

Quote
So it seems to me if the above 3 items are indeed correct. Whales are HODL'ing and accumulating...Adoption is still happening at an OK pace

and Halving next year in 2020...All should be great right?
all that said, i believe that the adoption is increasing well enough. i don't have any charts or data to back it up, it is just my observation as i see more and more people talking about bitcoin, i see shops that i didn't even imagined are accepting bitcoin,...
with the halving coming, and the hype it brings we should see a big rise at first and as the supply creation rate cuts down by 50% it should boost the rise up big time. this time it may even be a lot bigger than previous 2 times as this time the adoption is growing at a faster speed.

what is some better ways to look at adoption or are they all 'flawed'? I assume the wallets not moving stats are more or less legit on the HODL part of this thread.

Anyway to find out 'legit' on adoption kinda/sorta? links?

Again, the premise is IF 1) HODL'ing has maintained or increased 2) Adoption has increased 3) halving is coming 2020, well these all have to conspire to drive the price up

I'd think in a big way. If not now at least in the hear 2020 after halving?

Anyway, looking for legit data on my 'dubious' conclusions, be sure to toss some links up here.

off the cuff though, I mean really IF the above 3 things are kinda in synch and increasing...I should be grabbing as much 'dust' BTC as I can till after halving as I can pull off

I'd think. Then again the BTC/Crypto Kool-Aid I drank in 2013 is still coursing through my system and even though I'm not mining in mass anymore I also have a pretty

good ASIC addiction withdrawal going on...so it could all be unicorn farts/rainbows/and beanie baby dreams. Just saying.

849  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain to release S17E 64TH on: December 03, 2019, 10:18:44 PM
IF you look at the bitmain site on the technical specs..they seem to be doing this now. I assume it is for the newer released stuff and ALL will go on this route now. I suspect it is because to get the performance and hashing out of the same chips but just making bigger and bigger boxes there is not slack now. Maybe I'm wrong, but I suspect this will be the case. Anyway, others on this thread may have a workaround on this whole one setting thing..I'm just guessing.

But is there a workaround? Or are you simply stuck with this one power setting?

Right now both Yobit and Cryptotalk are down I only see a cloudflare I just login to my computer, and I don't know how long is this going, I hope it's just a maintainance,  it seems there is an overload of their server, I hope it's not a ddos attack and they will be back the soonest possible time.

Yes, I also cannot access 2 hours ago to the Yobit panel. I hope this maintenance will not be too long and I also hope that there are no new rules in this cryptotalk signature campaign.
Let's wait for the updates and statements.

No problems here accessing, logging in and browsing either yobit and cryptotalk sites right now.
Ive tried logging yesterday since Ive been into this campaign before and still have some funds in my account in yobit, the website takes so long to load, ive checked it regularly for me to confirm if it has already been fixed. Now, it is okay now and website loading is not so long like yesterday but my maintaning balance is currently cant be sent to btc wallet , I will wait for an update for this one, yobit exchange is good by the way I am not worried.

It's not allowed xfer to the wallet for 2 days FYI, for those keeping track. Smiley
851  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: December 01, 2019, 07:58:57 PM
Well for whatever reason no DEV for Litecoin puts anything on this thread. Not really sure why.

I found this on the www.litecointalk.io Litecoin site. I also have copied what is in the below link here.

I also will ask the author of above why the hell they don't post on Litecointalk threads on www.bitcointalk.org

as well. Likely as in the past I will get NO reply. Seems silly they don't post on these threads as well.

Anyway, here is the link below, you MAY have to have an account on www.litecointalk.io in order to view this link.

I 'copy & pasted' the post below as well.

Beginning  Quoted below:

 Mimblewimble Progress Update Thread Development

Hi everyone!

I’m David Burkett, the developer of Grin++. I’ve been working with ecurrencyhodler, Charlie, and others for several months now to design a Mimblewimble extension block so that LTC users can have confidential transactions and more fungible money.

I spoke a bit about our progress at the LTC Conference last month, but for those who are unaware, we’ve published 2 new LTC improvement proposals (LIPs):

LIP-0002: https://github.com/litecoin-project/lips/blob/master/lip-0002.mediawiki 4
This describes extension blocks, and how they can be implemented and activated in LTC.

LIP-0003: https://github.com/litecoin-project/lips/blob/master/lip-0003.mediawiki 1
This is all about Mimblewimble on LTC.

After the conference, much has happened. The first big announcement is that the LTC Foundation has graciously decided to fund my efforts to implement the MW extension block, and to continue working on Grin++! More details about that will be announced shortly, but I want to thank you all for the opportunity.

Since that was announced, great progress has been made. On the Grin++ side, I’ve implemented payments via TOR. Mimblewimble requires interacting with the receiver to build a transaction collaboratively, so by using TOR for that interaction, we’re able to use familiar-looking addresses, a simpler set-up, and much better privacy.

Original proposal to use TOR: https://github.com/mimblewimble/grin-rfcs/pull/24 1
    Grin++ Implementation: https://github.com/GrinPlusPlus/GrinPlusPlus/pull/89/ 3

Also, I’ve performed the first ever (AFAICT) pre-broadcast Mimblewimble CoinJoin. For those familiar with Mimblewimble, you may know that at the time transactions are included in a block, they are already joined with all other transactions in that block. The Achilles heel of mimblewimble privacy though, has always been that transactions are broadcast before they’ve had a chance to be joined with other transactions. That means nodes monitoring the network can see the original input-to-output links of most transactions. Sending a transaction directly to a CoinJoin server before broadcasting is one of many different techniques we can use to combat that.

    Original coinjoin proposal: https://www.grin-forum.org/t/yo-dawg-i-heard-you-like-coinjoins/5296 1
Block with first coinjoined transactions: https://grinscan.net/block/456188

On the LTC side, I started by familiarizing myself with the existing code by completing the LTC Dev Training Session. This meant starting with the latest bitcoin source, and making all modifications necessary to get it to sync.

Dev Training Session: Litecoin Developer Training Session 1 5
My BTC fork which now fully syncs the LTC blockchain: https://github.com/DavidBurkett/bitcoin

After that, I got to work re-designing the Grin++ codebase in a way that will allow LTC to reuse Grin++ with minimal modifications. The design is beyond the scope of this update, but I’ll formally write-up the design sometime over the next few weeks and link it here.

Going forward, I will be providing monthly progress updates to keep everyone in the loop on what progress has been made. They’ll likely be much more succinct than this one, but I thought it would be good to take a few extra minutes with this first update to let everyone know who I am, where we’re at, and set some expectations for the future.

Thanks for reading, and thanks again for all of your support!

end quote.

Anyway, maybe I can get the above to actually post on this thread as well in the future. It would be a nice change to actually have monthly progress reports on

Mimblewimble with Litecoin Devs on here as well.

853  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / BTC Adoption & HODL'ers Increase Yearly Rate and Halving in 2020. Poll! on: November 30, 2019, 07:13:36 PM
This topic may go no place. But I was thinking, I found the below link on the % of HODL'ers are increasing.

https://bitcoinist.com/bitcoin-not-moved-for-12-months-sees-51-increase/

This got me thinking about Adoption rates per year. IS BTC Adoption increasing and if so what data is there on this?

https://www.cryptopolitan.com/cryptocurrency-and-bitcoin-mass-adoption-is-increasing-in-2019-data-report/

Ok..so with the above links I've found 2 links that state that HODL'ing is increasing and Adoption is increasing.

Now when you add my third part in the title of this thread : Halving in 2020.

Where does that put us as far as pricing in the future?

So it seems to me if the above 3 items are indeed correct. Whales are HODL'ing and accumulating...Adoption is still happening at an OK pace

and Halving next year in 2020...All should be great right?

Anyway, I started this thread for discussion and folks with better google skills and hopefully math skills to flesh this out in a more logical manner.

Hell, there is probably a 'site' and graphs etc with all my above 'impressions' on this very topic.

Anyway, if there is a better thread or site on the above three senarios put the links here.

Anyway, hopefully, some folk with better skills than myself with the above 'supposeded' correct data can run with this and see if it offers any info on

the future price/use/etc for BTC.

I just tripped over the first 2 links above and went huh? I wonder if there is someone who has looked at this historically and/or towards the future

with the above BTC Adoption & HODL'ers Increase Yearly Rate and Halving 2020...in mind.

Please feel free to do better analysis and post on here in more depth than me and consider taking the poll!

If it works anything like Satellite T.V. the speeds to YOU should be pretty damn fast. The speeds up to the satellite are likely modem speeds at best?

unsure. But from what I 'think' I remember from way back when.

855  Economy / Economics / Re: bitcoin goes down, no new rich people anymore on: November 29, 2019, 10:22:58 PM
what caused bitcoin to enter $ 10k a few months ago is inseparable from the influence of Bakkt, and what followed was an instant effect of premature price increases. It needs to be re-thought that to bring in new investors, more affordable prices are needed as a lighter. what is called the new rich are those who patiently buy assets from the lowest price, and not those who enter when the trend begins to reverse.

My fear is that BTC does not have enough adoption happening vs HODL and Whales. In other words the ATH was like 18k then went down to 3.8k or some such. This last round the

high was 13k and dumped to around 6.8k. Well, assuming adoption is not keeping up and the miner capitulasation that we have with miners and halving coming up. We could

potentially 'hover' around 4k BTC again after it all settles out.

Not saying this is gonna happen, but it seems whenever we got around 10K or more a lot of HODL'ers dumped coin..I would hate to see this trickle down effect continue

over the next hear until halving.

Anyway, fears are many with BTC/Crypto..that is my concern.

Well, it is good to see all the other 'delusional' hodl'ers along with myself. At least according to my relatives this thanksgiving who think I'm quite mad for now blowing all my BTC.

At least they are consistent....they have mentioned I should sell every Thanksgiving since 2013 and how foolish I am. Oh well, so it goes.

But anyway, if they read this thread they would now say this is where all them kool-aid drinking hodl'ers hang out it seems. At least from the poll Smiley

Crap, have to do this again next year in 2020, hopefully I can drop the price, in the conversation at a new ATH to reverse the trend at that point...

the higher the price the more foolish I am for not getting USD it seems

...no way out. BTC price goes up foolish not to sell, BTC price goes down foolish not to sell, BTC goes sideways foolish not to sell because at some time it is all gonna go full

If sia-tech had any $$$ yet they'd be selling replacement update boards for the SC1 and/or  the massive amount of DCR1's out there...both first and 2nd batch...

but again, they can't even pay back the promised compensation for being late on the 1st SC! batch back a year or so back. (see the previous post in this thread where they say

they will compensate if they show a profit this year)

not gonna happen with their failed grin miners etc

they are toast, I still think they are gonna fold and let the corporation take the fall with the SEC in the USA.

That is what butterfly labs did and GAW and about 3 others if I remember right. Glad I sold my 5 SC1's for the BTC I had in them on the algo change

as for the 1.25 million sia-coin I mined on top of that..meh! It is more or less written off IMHO at this late date.

sad, but I guess my new rule is never to buy an  ASIC from a USA company..the SEC only cares if you ship the product..it can be 1 or 2 years late and that is

just dandy...great way to get BTC with little risk. If your ASIC/coin makes it 'great' if not, little risk of any problems with the SEC the corporation eats the loss/problems. win/win

anyway, I've seen nothing to change my view in the last year, indeed my view is MORE likely with the dump of the Grin miners....so sad.

859  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: US Tariff Ruling N297495 = 2.6% mandatory tariff on bitcoin mining hardware on: November 28, 2019, 02:43:41 AM
Again, if you want to delve into economic detail google on why China has the advantage of this tariff, besides it benefiting China.

1) China has very little to worry about from the tariff side from their buying..it is the other way around.

2) China has a growing trade surplus with the USA so that also mitigates the tariff from China's point of view.

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/01/14/china-2018-full-year-december-trade-exports-imports-trade-balance.html

3) China can do more infrastructure projects on a quick say so, as a centralized economy and that also mitigates the tariff's effects as well.

https://www.scmp.com/economy/china-economy/article/2183977/china-ramps-infrastructure-spend-stave-economic-slowdown-and

4) China manipulates Yuan currency to also mitigate tariff's influence

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/05/business/economy/us-china-yuan-renminbi-trump.html

5) Of course, China also uses Capitalism as a means to keep power. If they needed to, they would toss markets under the bus further to keep Communist party in power.

https://www.scmp.com/comment/insight-opinion/article/2119839/how-communist-china-has-embraced-capitalism-remains-leninist

We, the USA have as our only 'real' lever the imprefect shooting ourselves in the foot consumers eating the tariff costs as our redress. No way in hell, unfortunately, can China not win this battle. The Communist party of china does not care about profits, but eventually, the USA will crack and get rid of tariffs giving even more power to China in the economic front. I hope I'm wrong, but this whole mess tariff and otherwise is gonna end badly. We should have kept with the allies and the large asian pacific trade deals. As it is, we shot our load with tariffs and now have to eat the consequences.

My own view is the tariffs will continue into the Spring of 2021 if there is a new Presidential administration. We are likely stuck till then, again, IMHO.
860  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: US Tariff Ruling N297495 = 2.6% mandatory tariff on bitcoin mining hardware on: November 27, 2019, 05:55:04 PM
Is it true to say the consumer is paying the tariffs not the makers or originating nation.   China has supposedly devalued their currency to account for some of the difference but I'm not sure thats helped.   If the hardware can be used anywhere in the world then the only people its hurting is the country operating the tariffs so its basically another form of taxation on those particular goods.

Well, this recent article says that is exactly what China is doing to offset tariffs.

https://www.scmp.com/news/china/diplomacy/article/3013678/china-letting-value-yuan-slide-offset-trade-war-tariffs-us

China also 'doubles' infrastructure projects to offset tariffs

https://www.scmp.com/economy/china-economy/article/3033564/china-doubles-value-infrastructure-project-approvals-stave

The catch is China has many more options to play with as a quick-acting centralized system to counteract any tariff effects by the USA. The above also does not account for the other thing China has....trade surplus per year on top of the above.

Anyway, how it looks are ASIC tariffs are gonna be here for quite a while yet. Then even if the tariffs go away, the USA still has to account for the other advantages China has above.

sh*t
