If you can estimate the adoption rate then it would simply be the point in time at which adoption and emission curves intersect. Pretty sure Rpitila has all the numbers to do this if he hasn't done so already....
OK fuck off already.

After attempting to sync it on my laptop I decided it is time to put linux on it. Couldn't be happier with my decision...
My laptop just crashed as I was reading this post, kind of ironic don't you think? (still using windows 10)

I've been on and off trying to duel boot Debian with Windows, but every time I've tried it ends up in some sort of error or the installation freezes. I've installed it on computers and VMs before, so I'm beginning to think it's a hardware issue; especially since no other distros are having better luck on it either.

Personally getting away from advertised spyware (read the windows fine print) entirely is a must.  I even wiped W10 off of a HP notebook for my mom and installed Ubuntu.  Works great.  Simplicity is sometimes it's own benefit!

several mobile non-custodial wallets to choose from if you don't want to use the native wallet or a web wallet.  GUI on windows is... not great, requires patience.  Linux it is smooth and fast.
True

Also true.

... as I post this from a Windows 10 laptop.

Ditto.  I finally got my Puri.sm laptop a couple weeks ago.  Love it.  Solved all of the annoying GUI lag.  Hardware helps, but Windows is such a tar pit, it's amazing anything works on it.

I wonder how the ledger wallet integration is stepping forward? Any news on this? Last update was 2 or 3 months ago.

Haven't seen anything in weeks.  Might be waiting to coincide with the next release in march?  If not, then they've hit some snag, because the language in January indicated imminent release.
885  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 20, 2018, 10:13:11 AM
guys i want to ask you a question? Why is still so damn hard to use Monero wallets? I've spent literally 2.5 day to recover some funds I had in an old wallet.
Do you prefer any much practical method for that?

Use a remote node if you don't have a synced blockchain.  Restore from a block height not much older than the wallet for a quicker scan.  Should take no more than minutes if it is not a very old wallet.

BCash is a shitcoin just like all the other Bitcoin XXX....

Wow.  that list is getting a bit long!

TERA's old account is in use again. stolen?

Fake TERA seems vastly smarter than real TERA:

The ether can collapse at any time. Like any cryptocurrency.

Cockroach seems vastly smarter than realr0ach

Shorts are gonna get rekt soon.
First it was trousers, now it's shorts. Is this some kind of a nekkid cult?

it seems to be the way it's trending...  Well, once we're done with the shirts and shoes...
889  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: monerujo for monero on: February 20, 2018, 01:14:38 AM
Using it for a few months, works awesome.  The integrated XMR.to feature makes it amazingly useful for simple BTC payments.  Pretty much has replaced mymonero.com for my small, frequent usage.  Obviously, you don't trust a google device with too much at any one time...

Shares on a public blockchain are going to be a thing. Real shares.  Like Apple and Amazon and even Berkshire Hathaway.  Not this pretend kindergarten shit we have had so far.

But Bitcoin needs a way to record and transfer these shares.  Like colored coins.  There are a bunch of contenders for which public blockchain will win.  It will not be Ripple or Stellar. ETH is the obvious threat but they have their own problems right now.

Do you mean all the ICO's and erc20 stuff from basically 2017?

Yes.

The legislation to support the changes is coming. It will start in the smaller, more agile countries and spread into places like the US.

Problem is that even if they wanted to meant those tokens to be shares that would make the SEC involved. So, currently, those just useless tokens with no representation of ownership.

The SEC will be involved and will bless it. It will all be fully legit.

Blockchain makes it impossible to rehypothecate  (hmm, not quite the right term, but best I can come up with ATM), so it will not be embraced for equities until it is forced on them.  Ever tried to get a certificate for a stock you 'own'?  Since the broker sold it to 50 different people (number out of my ass) and never bought it in the first place, it is next to impossible.  But very, very profitable!  If I can make time for it, I'll try to dig up some of the articles on it.  Horrifying and fascinating at the same time...
891  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: February 19, 2018, 09:04:25 PM

It is not usable, and doesn't look to become usable in the foreseeable future.  IIRC transactions would take like 20 minutes or something to compute.  I don't remember the details, just that it isn't currently viable.

Holy shit I read it was long but really? Do you have a link on that?

As I stated, I don't recall the particulars, just my conclusions.  Sorry, my main storage is getting full, so I overwrite all but the headers  Tongue  The info is still out there somewhere.  If I come across it again, I will link it here.
892  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: February 19, 2018, 08:56:04 AM
Well here is an interesting article.

"In 10 Years We Won't Have Blockchains"

The idea is, that in future the blockchains evolve the way that they are no more a linear timely arranged chain of blocks, but a some kind of a mesh of transactions. So blockchains are then no more called blockchains, because it is misleading name for them.

And the advance of this kind of a new structure is efficiency. Faster transactions and so on.

The writer of the article does not tell details how such system would work, but the idea sounds interesting. Just like before 2009 we did not know exactly how blockchain works, but the idea truly was interesting.

I think Monero team must think about this. This could be future. And if Monero was first to take it in use. That would be nice.

They are way ahead of you the curve.  Go to getmonero.org and read some blogs.  Or just hold your nose, and go to reddit, where the news breaks these days.

I'm a little behind the times, are we going to see zk-STARKS in Monero?
Quote
While Monero’s lead developer, Riccardo Spagni, has criticized Zcash in the past, calling it a “complete security farce,” this new system of implementing zero knowledge proofs may avoid some of the serious issues that Zcash’s current zk-SNARKs system has. Spagni told CoinDesk that Monero will integrate zk-STARKs “if and when it’s usable.

https://www.deepdotweb.com/2017/10/11/monero-considers-implementing-zk-starks/

I don't think our community is wedded to any particular technology. We have a vision of providing private fungible value storage and transfer at the best scale that technology currently allows for while using only safe and well vetted techniques. We also have very healthy governance and a well balanced and rational community who all have a similar vision, so forks tend to be a breeze. If it turns out that sk-starks is the bees knees it will almost certainly be implemented here.

It is not usable, and doesn't look to become usable in the foreseeable future.  IIRC transactions would take like 20 minutes or something to compute.  I don't remember the details, just that it isn't currently viable.
894  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 19, 2018, 04:40:09 AM

cmon, i never said that price will crash, in contrary price will rises because monerov.  i myself have some thought about buying it but the idea that my coin can vanish any moment at mymonero wallet scares me a bit.
Connect your wallet to a remote node. PM me if you need help getting it set up. Meh just use the GUI wallet if you don't know how to use the CLI. It's pretty self explanatory with the GUI. It's in the options or settings somewhere clearly labeled.

Yes everyone I know you all think hes a troll but I can still extend an olive branch.

Should be interesting to watch the hashrate after the fork.
Yep.  Going to fire  up everything I can for a short stint just before showtime Smiley  ISP usually chokes me out within a couple hours when I start using bandwidth, but you never know  Cheesy
896  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 19, 2018, 02:56:18 AM
I held it for a long time in the first place. But then I get tired of holding.I sell all monero coins afterwards. The price flew after the sale. That's why I do not like Monero

You came here to say that you have no vision, no self control, and take no responsibility for your own actions.  Got it.  Welcome to the masses.

Let me guess, there is a paid signature under your shitty post, amirite?

.......farcebook.

Lol, thats epic...I cant believe I've never seen/heard /thought of  that till now...duhh!     Definitely now my goto term for that along with Twatter.

Faceboob is just as fitting Wink
That would imply that Farcebook was something nice. Sad

Yeah,  I usually call it fecesbook if I have to mention it at all, but you gotta switch it up from time to time.

lines on graphs.

Ahem. I remember those.

Wrong thread.

Where the hell is the moderator, anyway?

We are all "special" here and are governed by special rules that allow trolling and off-topicness.

Special Wall Observer rules: bitcointalk.org moderators do not moderate the Wall Observer thread for multi-posting (except obvious spam), trolling, or on-topicness. Do not use this form to report those violations; instead, contact the thread owner. Reports of other rule violations are OK here.

Yeah, Theymos understood we are all people with "special needs" and confined us all here with our "special" rules. It would be terrible if we were forced to wander around the "regular" forum.

I thought we had established that it was unsafe to go out there?

Where did the Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion went to?  Huh

No need to check the charts. The quantity of insults on this thread is inversely correlated to price velocity. Sadly it trails rather than leads.

The price just moved up by $100, which might disrupt the quantity of insults.

Quality over Quantity.  It's the order of the day.

We observed the wall, but there was very little writing on it.  Now it is more interesting.  Bitcorn can be disgusted by anyone, at any time, just put forth a theory and someone will shoot it down for you!  Leave the tracking to google and farcebook.
