How does it feel knowing that a hero member who is also known as an AM Schill got a free box? I don't know why you keep trying to help these guys?

And

I cant believe Guy sent ASICMINER shill a free product.
...
Jimmothy was always my favorite AM SH.
Hopefully Phillip got 1 too, he actually goes to bat for you guys!

Is it a bit excessive warmongering?
962  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Spondoolies SP20 review - A Green miner with a Loud fan on: December 18, 2014, 11:42:59 PM
not really when you consider that pushing it for an extra 100GH will increase the overall power draw by 100W - you make the machine much louder and if unless you pay <$0.10/kwh its only amounts to a few extra dollars of profit. hence why a lot of people are running this 1.7TH/1.1kW device at 1.3TH/0.8kW

With better cooling you get better efficiency and lower noise. The problem with the SP20 is the unequal cooling of the chips. The second set of chips gets hit with air that's +40c hotter. Cool them with ambient air and you can lower their voltage and increase the efficiency.
The second set of chips get hit with warmer air, but not +40C hotter.

I see why the sp20s are a better deal far more efficient but these things are far from fire and forget, i spent at least 2-3 hours baby sitting these boxes every day sometimes more and I'd be dammed if I want to spend that kind of time managing 5-10 lol

What in the world are you having to babysit? I torture my SP20, and it needs no care at all.

Asics constantly going offline, hash-rate dropping etc both the SP20 and the Sp20E seem to crash randomly every few days It seems
It shouldn't happen. What's your settings and PSUs?
965  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Spondoolies SP20 review - A Green miner with a Loud fan on: December 18, 2014, 04:28:56 PM
Looks like a lot of cost cutting has been done to maximize profit.
I wish. Not true.
So why use crappy thermal paste and old inefficient heat sinks?
Both "facts" are untrue. Sure more expensive cooling stuff available. The solution we choose is adequate. It's certainly not cheap or crappy.
You can pour liquid nitrogen on this ASICs and probably get to over 2 THs, but the build cost will be over 0.6 $/GHs
Should we do it ?

we took preorders on the 2nd gen

We're in the 2nd gen.
Once the spec is known, it's not preorders anymore.
It's backlog of orders.

  • SpondooliesTech Preorders up from 'Yes' to 'Mix' (1 to 8]. *Although SpondooliesTech is currently selling out of hand, they have not yet demonstrated that their business model can support this into the next generation. On the announcement of next gen preorders, this rating will return to 'Yes'. On the announcement of next gen in hand / batch sales, this rating will increase to 'Batch' or 'No'.
...
In general, I believe you're doing a decent job with the guide.
Regarding our score, we're currently selling from stock all our products line. It seems to me a bit unfair and last minute change of your scoring criteria.

As we discussed at length, nothing has changed in the criteria. Preorders are a critical measure and as such have always had a time historical lag as well as additionally considering the business model. It is not justifiable for you (or BFL, or any other company) to sell $30M of hardware [random numbers to illustrate] via preorders and then to sell $3M from overstock and claim that you don't use preorders. The entire business model is based off preorders, and there is a 90% chance that made up scenario's company will return to using preorders as soon as they announce the next generation.

And as such, they can only receive an interim 'does preorder and doesn't preorder - mixed' rating, until they can prove that their business model does NOT rely on customer funds via preorders. That reliance is demonstrated during the announcement of the next generation, which for ST is likely to be 0-6 months as opposed to 7-12. If you sell the next generation via preorders, you're running a preorder model business and so receive a 'Yes'. If you sell the next generation from hand and are committed to a no preorder business model then you receive a 'No'.

tldr nothing has changed, you can't sell a few older units from stock and claim you are an 'in stock company' until you demonstrate that your entire business model isn't designed around preorders.
I've explained at length why we don't take preorders on our 3rd gen - it's considerable riskier development than our 2nd gen. Risk level which is suitable to accredited investor, not consumer.

I also explained to you our businesses model in 2015, which doesn't include preorders.

We didn't take preorders on the 1st gen, we took preorders on the 2nd gen, missed the spec and compensated our customers (over 98% done, the rest will be done this month)

For the last 2 months, we're selling proven hardware with known spec. It's not preorders. And it's definitely not "few older models". It's the best mining gear in the industry.

I urge you to admit an error and fix our rating.

Guy

Although it's not perfect, I will say it's better than any other miner I've owned. My main issue with the sp20 is the noise. I know many have complained about it but I was genuinely surprised by how loud it is. I'm sure it would be much more tolerable if I was able to lower the fan speed, but at it's current setting (80%?) it's far too loud to be a home miner.

Overall I'm very impressed. I can officially confirm that all the hype about SP-tech gear is warranted. I will definitely consider buying their next gen hardware but only if they address the noise issue.
Thank you for the fair review.
And yes, we've shipped some units to Heroes members as well. Please don't ask for additional review units, the offer is closed.

In summary, I couldn't be happier with this miner.  If you're in the market for a sturdy, easy-to-use, cost-efficient miner, the SP20 must be considered as one of the strongest choices.

5 SP20's right under your bedroom. You MUST live alone? I have an attached garage, which I tried my SP10 in and still couldn't keep it there from those high pitch fans. Then you wouldn't believe what happened. My good friend brought over his 2 SP10's and told me to go into the house, while he was in the garage. I heard him start up his SP10's then turn then off. He called for me to come out into the garage and low and behold the 2 SP10's were running! He made this audio box, same width size of the SP10. Has a bunch of what looked like speakers to me installed in it and the box was connected to some control with a few knobs on it. He turned one of the knobs slowly and the sound started to get louder and louder. I know nothing about frequencies or audio waves, but all the box does is cancel out all the audio/frequency waves from the miners. Not sure how it works, but since he wants to sell them, he wouldn't let me take a picture. Trust me, it was just a plain wood box with many different sized speakers I think. He said he has a few versions he's working with and making them variable tuning so the timing and frequencies aren't tied to one miner rig. Which would be impossible anyway, maybe our ears think they all sound the same, technically they are not. He was showing me all this on some meter be brought over. When he sells them he said he would make a post here with a youtube video. I don't know any of the details.

Neat!  Here's some more data on how that works: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_noise_control

Guy/Zvi - listening?  Built-in active noise cancellation.  I'd easily pay extra for that option on my sp20!

No, I'm wearing my Bose QC25

Conclusion: The SP20 is the most efficient and powerful piece of mining gear I have ever used, that comfortably runs on standard North American residential circuits.

Given the choice of purchasing 3 S3’s vs a single SP20, the choice is clear that the SP20 is the winner. In closing, it’s awfully tempting to pull the trigger and buying a bunch more SP20’s to replace less efficient A1’s and S2's.

Thanks again to the Spondoolies team for this awesome promotion, and allowing some of us to review their units. I'm very glad to see they have not forgotten about hobby/home miners, and I look forward to their next product offering geared towards us !

The SP20's are available for purchase here, currently priced at $659 USD. http://www.spondoolies-tech.com/products/holiday-special-sp20-jackson-shipping-from-stock
