Yes that should be fine. As long as you aren't solo mining you don't need high speed. Even then you don't need a lot of bandwidth, just low latency.

Please report back how it works. Others may benefit from this as well!
Well, I received from Polo instantly, by having daemon tx speed limited to 30kb/s. Smiley
Can someone please give me noob a template how to transfer to Polo with payment ID? Then I'll also test outgoing transfers.

are you using simplewallet?

Code:
transfer <mixin #> <poloniex address> <XMR amount> <payment ID>

use a mixin factor > 1

Man, that was a pretty big buy for XMR that just took us over .004 (temporarily).
I've watched this before and this is getting more and more common - Buy orders for 50BTC or so.
I've been certain of this for a while now, BIG money (relative to the crypto space anyway) is continually moving into Monero.

There doesn't seem to be any large walls right below for support though. I wonder why the buyer didn't try that first to get filled, instead
of spiking the price up?

Its about sharing

If they put up a large buy order (wall) others would just bid above it, making the price rise and leaving no XMR in their pocket. If someone is genuinely trying to accumulate, not manipulate the price, it seems risky to place a huge order like that. Hence the big market order.
963  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Unveiling the truth over the major Monero hoax on: August 25, 2014, 12:04:58 PM
Just...wow at these accusations. First off, the reason I was absent from this stupid forum earlier this year: I was too busy with LIFE, and trying to enjoy some bitcoin profits by traveling. I have more interests than just bitcoin and cryptocurrency.

I don't dispute that a lot of my posts in the early days on this forum were not of much quality. My main interest back then was acquiring BTC, not really discussing it. So I was frequently in the Goods section where I sold some coffee for BTC, or the off-topic section where we could laugh at people like Dank or other scammers.

I am very much the same person. However, bitcoin has educated me in many things and I am inspired to make more thoughtful posts these days.

For what it's worth, I PM'd Come From Above and offered my account to him for 7 BTC. No response.

Full Disclosure: I've bought some for myself. Not selling anytime soon (if at all).

welcome to the club, smoothie! we could certainly use your skills putting down the anti-monero trolls here. LOL

please feel free to join the Monero Community Hall of Fame and support the devs! https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=700400

Now that the terminology has been changed from "wallet" to "account", this breaks readability of old wallet.bin files, correct? How does one convert a wallet.bin to an account.bin?

I don't think so, you can rename your wallet .bin file to anything you want. Doesn't have to be wallet.bin

967  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero (XMR) Speculation thread on: August 20, 2014, 05:19:25 AM
Any rational basis to estimate the top of this major run?

My thought is that the recent low ebb was a major bottom, the first time we truly ran out of coins to sell, because the selling was so aggressive.  Since the previous monthly high was 0058, within a general pattern of monthly peaks, it seems we should pass 0058 this month, to set a pattern of higher highs.  Otherwise, we haven't really broken the downtrend since listing, and as we just reached a major bottom, we are more likely to establish a new uptrend than not.

However, since the bottom took so very long to form, it may be that it will not be until mid-September that we form a solid new local high, above 0058.  Time will tell.  I have no basis to estimate the timing any better than that.

I really found it interesting how there were 200,000 XMR for sale just recently on Poloniex...then about 70,000 xmr were consumed in the past few days without any increase in the buy depth (less than 200 btc). Just now is the first major support at 0.00358.

968  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero (MRO) Speculation thread on: August 20, 2014, 05:05:06 AM
I expect the downtrend will now continue until everyone decides it has gone far enough and immense buying will ensue. If the pattern continues, the next rally will happen around August 20th 2014.

Looks like my call was 1 day late! I'd like to give everyone a pat on the back if they held strong...I really hope for your sake you did. Otherwise buy back soon.

Slowly grinding up! First resistance is at 0.00336.

"I don't see nothin wrong, with a little bump n grind" - Monero

Now it's time for the fun to begin.

Thought I might x-post from Reddit since it is relevant - if you are in NYC you can now pay for psychiatric services with Monero!

http://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/2dum4r/i_am_a_new_york_city_psychiatrist_who_accepts/

anyone who deems an altcoin an investment on grounds of its fundamentals and long-term growth prospects is disproportionately likely to have need of a manhattan psychiatrist (and ability to pay).  i may go there myself.  do they still prescribe quaaludes?

i'm not sure what is the modern-day equivalent to quaaludes, maybe xanax? i don't like either tbh. i'm sure you could get some amphetamines though, for your adult ADD. i enjoyed vyvanse for years but its too habit forming, ahh

972  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Paper wallets on: August 18, 2014, 09:09:35 PM
bitaddress.org is safe and open source, very secure.

use a live OS like Tails and boot from that, then load bitaddress.org. create some paper wallets and you can be certain that they are safe.

i've stored many BTC using this method.
973  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What to do with 0.0087 btc on: August 18, 2014, 09:06:41 PM
best thing to do with that small amount of BTC is hold and continue buying more. work your way up to 1 BTC at least!
974  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero (XMR) Speculation thread on: August 18, 2014, 07:49:25 PM
Congratulations to Monero for overtaking DRK and achieving #1 anonymous cryptocurrency status today. May there be many milestones to come!

I'm confused. DRK is reported at 391K on bitcoinwisdom. XMR is reported at 310K. DRK has 4.5m coins which is more than XMR, so it also much be higher on market cap.

By what measure do you think XMR has overtaken DRK (besides potential -- we all agree on that certainly).

OK sorry I may be jumping the gun a bit. I was just comparing the price of 1 XMR to 1 DRK. DRK is still higher at the moment (0.0039) but it has been falling so hard while Monero gains more momentum every day. We are getting closer...

how can i make the GUI work on OSX?

i just installed Qt libraries but i get this error message.

Code:
/Users/***/Downloads/Monero.app/Contents/MacOS/bitmonero ; exit;
Systems-MacBook-Pro:~ ***$ /Users/***/Downloads/Monero.app/Contents/MacOS/bitmonero ; exit;
dyld: Library not loaded: /Users/ric/Qt5.3.1/5.3/clang_64/lib/QtQuick.framework/Versions/5/QtQuick
  Referenced from: /Users/***/Downloads/Monero.app/Contents/MacOS/bitmonero

Trace/BPT trap: 5
logout

Try download it again - the OS X build with the static libs has been uploaded. Now I'm fighting through the Windows equivalent...and then on to Linux!

Sweet. Playing around with the interface now, I love how different it is from the vanilla Bitcoin-Qt. It reminds me of Ableton Live UI, which is cool.

I donated another 100 XMR for your hard work!
