https://mailchi.mp/83fd6ed702f3/martys-bent-september-8th-2020-819For those who need a refresher, DLCs allow two or more parties to enter into a smart contract agreement regarding a future event. In the case of Nicolas and Chris, they are betting about the outcome of the US Election this year. However, they could have bet on the price of bitcoin on the same date, the outcome of an NBA game later this week, or the temperature in Boise next Wednesday at noon local time. The two construct multiple transactions that decide where the funds are sent; in this case there is a transaction that sends the funds to Chris and another that sends them to Nicolas depending on the outcome of the election. The movement of funds within the DLC is dependent on a signature from an Oracle that confirms the outcome of the event once it happens. The Oracle has no idea who is using their signature to execute DLCs unless users publicly state that they are. This allows individuals to make bets in private and for anyone who is so inclined to use a particular Oracle's signature. One signature for millions of bets is possible. Making DLCs scalable to the masses. possibly the first one in the wild That could be one way to have natively bitcoin-based DeFi, possibly on the Lightning Network. More of this is coming our way.

-several snips, emphasis mine-defi (without idiotic 'yield farming') is just another term for automatic financing sans banks.
You have capital, you can lend it out on the blockchain that is able to employ smart contracts (be it at the core , in L2 or L3) and get interest.
Banks are less needed in defi world, hence no Cantillon effect and no pernicious brrr.
Poopooing defi will not be in bitcoin interest. Figuring out how to do it apart from essentially giving your coins to blockfi or Celsius and rely on their good graces might be important.
Governments have nothing to fear as taxing could be programmed in, if needed, not sure why they would be 'all over it'. They won't be, IMHO. Why sell your btc when the time comes when you can use it more intelligently?
I despise the current defi fad, but I think Biodom does have a point. It's a matter of execution more than anything else. We're still far from an acceptable solution, but I support the idea and hope someone figures out a workable protocol.

Perhaps your right, perhaps not, but in the end i dont really care if you believe me or not, its your choice
In these here parts we often have it as "If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry".

I actually welcome Proudhon's bearish posts, especially when they mention shorting her with the highest available leverage. By the time I've fed them into my SOMA engine and digested the convoluted, obscure and esoteric results, she steps up a notch. Thank you, llama of doom!

SMerits Balance=Received Merits/2-Sent Merits
[nitpick] Should be SMeritsBalance = floor(ReceivedMerits / 2) - SentMerits + floor( (Oldmerits % 2 + ReceivedMerits % 2) / 2)
The last term is to account for even/odd number of merits. [/nitpick]

don't know exactly where more demand is coming from? USD or EUR?
but if you watch the EUR price of BTC you should also observe the EUR/USD spot price a bit.
that is what i am doing. if € goes up vs the $, mostly bitcoin is going up also. during most of the the 2017 bitcoin bullrun, the $ was on a slide down compared to other fiat currencies. today the € reached $1.20 - so, more potential upside for btc we should be close to btc ath by the time € reached $1.30 You think € will reach $1.30?? Holy shit I should get rid of my dollars... Jump through hoops to brrrrr? ECB slower than Fed Almost sure it will #haiku

Observing $11962. I guess $12k will never happen again in the next few minutes either. Very few minutes probably. We're at -30$ or so.

btw...where is judgement cat sitting on the kitchen table? meow? you mean my boss, the avatar cat? he passed on. seeing him on the forum was bumming me out so he now lives on in my memories. although xhomerx work is so good i printed it out and have it hanging on the wall along with my other feline companions ive had the honor of being companions of over the years. thank you again xhomerx, your work will forever be displayed in a place of honor. not having an avatar matches the empty spot in my heart so it seems appropriate to leave it this way for now. I've been lagging a bit lately. I feel you, vapourminer. I also had my beloved feline princess depart too early, and I still feel a bit like a widower.
