Yes, this time is likely different. All previous bulls were led mainly by retail, as we know. Now we have WS money in the game, and those are strong hands once they fall in love with a moneymaking machine.

In other words, the supposed ~39% dip should bring us in ~25k territory, but my gut tells me we're barely going to kiss 30k, if even. Grayscale unlocking on Feb 3 could mean the end of this correction as fresh $$ start to buy corn again. I've got to run this bunch of data through my SOMA system to be sure, though.

Only works in the day

Also, I don't know why, but I can't manage to get it to work indoors, even with the windows open!

On top of that, i loved *pple for the quality of their products and stable operating systems.
This changed 2015-ish a lot, after which i decided to move back to windoze again. didn't regret it, apart from some delicate pieces of VST(i) plugins, of which no windows ports were available. The fact that ableton live runs on both system made the decision easier as well (originally came from cubase on x86).

I never loved Apple because of the walled garden attitude, long before they became a fashion brand. The stability of the OS is greatly helped by their all in-house hardware. Windoze, while being far from perfect, works whatever you throw at it. And they really care for backwards compatibility. This I really like. Apple's approach to backwards compatibility is "Well dear, you're still using THAT? It's from 2020, you penniless bum!"

BTW, which VST(i)s have you found hard to replace? I felt a similar pain when they bought out CamelAudio and gardenwalled Alchemy, which used to be my favorite softsynth.

Any fixed amount can be written off as "cost of doing business", given a large enough volume of business.

The penalties for such violations MUST be expressed in units of yearly revenue. It's the only language corporations will understand; it's the only way to keep them on their toes.

In a documentary I watched around 20 years ago, it was mentioned that the cost of human life in an aviation accident was valued at $250,000 per person. So, it was said that aviation companies would do a budget analysis of the cost of fixing the technical problem vs. the lives lost because of it, and the cheapest course of action would be chosen. Not sure how relevant this is today.

Hit them where it hurts - in their wallets. That's why I say any fixed amount is inadequate if we really want to prevent such accidents. 250k * n, where n is the max number of people onboard, is paltry when compared to 1-2 years of corporate income. I think 1 year would be a very good deterrent. The whole board would become extremely careful, especially since there could be additional liabilities to all the shareholders if specific negligence were to be found. Imagine a class action not from the victims, but from the shareholders too...

A technical question. I must have broken my Tor installation somehow, because that network doesn't seem to be reachable by the bitcoin-core client anymore. The Tor browser itself works fine, though. Any suggestions?

Code:
bitcoin-cli getnetworkinfo
{
  "version": 210000,
  "subversion": "/Satoshi:0.21.0/",

# snip

    {
      "name": "onion",
      "limited": true,
      "reachable": false,
      "proxy": "",
      "proxy_randomize_credentials": false
    }
}

Solved. I messed up the proxy line in bitcoin.conf somehow. Now all is well.

This ^^ at the expense of the dollar.

Read the following outlook for an easy to follow syntheses of all this: https://themarket.ch/interview/louis-gave-inflation-will-come-back-with-a-vengeance-ld.3307

Excellent piece IMO. It voices doubts the keen observer may already have started to nurse, in plain language with a bird's view.
Thanks Wekkel.

So you wouldn't have waited till November-December? Costly mistake, man...  Grin

Serious problem. Selling 500 btc too soon, at 40k. A gentlemanly 1st world problem, I'd say.
This classic costly mistake falls squarely into the category PILF (Problems I'd Like to Fight).

But insurance will never cover the value of all the assets. Custody with insurance is a scam

Not saying you're wrong or right. Just wondering why you state this as a fact.

Quote
Amount of coverage
100 million USD
For digital assets with option to purchase additional excess insurance up to $500 million to supplement BitGo’s $100 million policy.

At the time of writing, $ 100M is roughly 2879BTC and considering this covers ALL the assets held by BitGo for its clients I don't even want to know what % of the total that covers.
I don't think it can be paralleled to the money covered up to a certain point in bank accounts (i.e. €100k in Europe, $ 250k in the US etc.)

To me, it's a scam because it bring clients into believing all their funds are secured. That's not the case.

I have the same doubt and made a similar point. Besides, does the insurance cover the fiat value or the btc value? It definitely makes a difference if victims get repaid only 10 years later (assuming they get paid at all).

Well if done like bank accounts it would have a limit of 250,000 usd value.

But you would get that. I would argue it is better than btc in a wallet. If they set it up like a bank setups up a cash account.

And the key here is they'll be paying interest to hodl our precious coins. It's a win-win.
Likely interest is in fiat though. And I'd want to make sure such deposits are guaranteed by the bank security fund as if it were fiat... but at nominal crypto value. Otherwise, there could be several Gox like episodes.

Too busy IRL... Watching price when I can. I see pumps & dumps (for ants, although some are FAT ants).

Guys, need to post some extreme memes/pics ASAP if there's any hope for serious PUMP action. Supergirls, LGBTTIQQ2SA, gaynime and rusty pipes permitted. I've got to admit I enjoyed Frahm's panty+celery paintings. Always had a thing for women of that era. No CCMF or Carolinas please, save them for $100k, when the fun will really start.

HoDL.
