I would like to ask if you can add another of my paid services.
This is my topic for LOGO DESIGN services, it was initially for BSFL league, but I can make logo for any other service and purpose people want.
My topic is here and you can find few logo examples there: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5448964

Thank you for letting me know about your service. It was added in OP and you can find it in the quote as well.

I need help from everyone. If you see incorrect information about your service, your forum member rank, whatever, feel free to let me know. I will check and correct it for you. Thanks.

Couldn’t there be like IP checks that can just quickly resolve these type of scenarios?
No. Admin won't get involved, and it could lead to false positives.
Admins only take action in special cases but I believe with this case such as that one, no need for admin engagement, the community will figure out about it soon.

[1] VIP Member hacked?

Alternatively and additionally, some members who have talks with the user in the past can explore the fact too like this.

By exploring this case, I found one thing, theymos or Cyrus only changed the display name for Ratimov and we can search with Ratimov as a key word at forum's member search and find Symmetrick. In this case, admin did not change both username and display name for the user. This means the change here is for appearance only, not for privacy reason.

524  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would it be enough to buy 100 dollars worth of Bitcoin every month? on: December 08, 2023, 01:39:50 AM
I'm preparing for the college entrance exam to go to college, so I can't make money from working. I get about $100 of allowance from my father every month.
What is your father's allowance for?

Quote
I use all of them to buy bitcoin because I can use father's credit card for expenses such as food, clothes.
Please use money properly and don't exploit your father's credit card.

Quote
I can buy Bitcoin on a satoshi basis every month, but when I see people buying Bitcoin basis on the internet, I feel like I'm too behind myself. Maybe they have a much higher income than me because they have a job. I think I can only invest $100 a month for the next year or two, would that be enough?
Don't feel you are behind anyone else. We all have different entry points and different income resource so that you must feel satisfied with best you can do for your portfolio.

Make sure you have a safe risk management for both your life expense, emergency and investment portfolio. Basically with human instinct, we never feel enough so your question is wrong.

The good news is if you already did research and had belief in Bitcoin, you can start your investment and can maintain it a long time. One of good investment strategies is Dollar Cost Averaging. Because you are only at beginning, you can use two DCA websites to imagine how this strategy will help your investment after like 1 or 2 years.
The first website is more useful because it has information for profit, loss of each DCA round.

If you are still vague about DCA effect, see how it helps both MicroStragegy and Nayib Bukele (on behalf of El Salvador) to get profit with their Bitcoin investments.

Can someone explain to me how you see that he has withdrawn merit source status? The link you posted does not point to any specific user.
Deleting the merit source thread application doesn't lead directly to that, does it? Also, the fact that on average he distributed less merit than otherwise, does not necessarily exclude that he has out-of-merit sources.
I did not say it is a solid evidence for conclusion and I only provided some information but as said, I noted that more evidence is needed even connecting those dots seems to lead to a logical conclusion.

If you need solid proof, it only can come from theymos or Cyrus, two forum admins.

I also have to mention other dots: email address changed and password changed on November 23, 2023, 10:33:06 AM.

Ratimov Symmetrick is one of biggest merit source in Bitcointalk. Most generous merit senders, all time. So with this drop of 1000 merit as Halab revealed, I can not think of any merit source than Ratimov Symmetrick.

526  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A first Bitcoin block explorer. How does it look like? on: December 08, 2023, 01:02:59 AM
I am not using any blockchain explorer other than https://mempool.space/ lately and to be honest, it is more convenient and a lot easier to navigate than other blockchain explorers but I am not using it for tracking the addresses primarily but it comes in handy when it is needed and its the best to estimate the optimal fee needed for our transactions. Smiley
Each person, unique need so there is a list of Bitcoin block explorers for everyone to choose.

I discussed about mempool.space there about its color theme. There is a solution for it as guided by NotATether with his post.

Additionally, it seems the owner of jochen-hoenicke.de website decided to create a mirror of it at another domain name. I guess the mempool prefix can help the site more easily to appear on top of searching results.

I prefer to use Jochen-hoenicke.de website when I need to check mempools too.

Two reasons why I dislike mempool.space website.
  • It is very bad designed, bad organized in fee rate bands' colors. Their color bands are mixing from hot to cold colors that is annoying already. Moreover, they use hot colors at bottom and cold at top. We know, most expensive fee rates are considered as 'dead' ones. They should use hot colors like red flags. I don't get ideas why mempool.space team designed like that or perhaps they see low fee rates as red flags.
  • In the past, their chart is static, not dynamic. Static means when I hover a mouse on their chart, fee rates won't be updated. It is not dynamic like Jochen-hoenicke.de website. Recent months (around 2021 or 2022), they updated their chart to be a dynamic one but I still dislike it because of color bands.

528  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns [Last update: 03-Dec-23] on: December 08, 2023, 12:44:00 AM
Some changes for the weekly table update.

Wtf, what about DDoS-for-hire services being advertised here then? theymos, for sure you are aware that DDoS is illegal in most jurisdictions and it has the same crime weight as being sanctioned by OFAC.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5467001.0 [CFNP] [banned site] Signature Campaign [ Full Member + ]
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5415532.0 Stresser.net Signature campaign Sr. Member+ [HOLD]
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5468359.0 [ENDED] [banned site] Signature Campaign [Full Member +]

I agree that DDoS services are too legally dubious (moreso even than mixers) and should not be allowed. And if a services's domain is seized, then in 99% of cases that service should not be allowed on bitcointalk.org even if it's still accessible in other ways.

Those threads have all been deleted or locked, and 2 domains have been wordfiltered. If there are more threads elsewhere, please use the "report to moderator" function on them. If more things should be wordfiltered, create a new Meta topic. (None of the topics you linked had ever received any reports, which is why the matter of DDoS services was never really considered.)
529  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] LiveCasino.io Signature Campaign | Sr. Member+ | 100$ p/w, funds escrowed on: December 08, 2023, 12:42:05 AM
Sorry for bad quotes, I am on mobile and it is though to do it properly.

It is not a special deal. We were always paying everyone for every post made while wearing our sig. I don't know how many posts you have this week but i took your post count when you said you are changing campaigns as cut off. Everything before that, you are entitled to payment. There is no min post count and if you are fine with it I will make the decision when grading the table. If you have at least 0.5mBTC coming your way I am sending them and if you have less I will consider it donation for faster transactions.
If you said so, I have nothing other than agreeing with this and saying thank you to you and your co-manager as well as the Livecasino team. It is always my pleasure to be here.

Quote
Regarding changing campaigns I generally agree with your point with one exception. Currently several strongest campaigns are mixers and it will be througher than usual to get into good campaigns after new year.
I know, the competitiveness will be higher than before and I did not mean I will be chosen because I belong to the best but I meant I can get job for sure. I will need time and probably will get a job with lower pay rate than this one but let's see what will come when January 2024 starts.
530  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] LiveCasino.io Signature Campaign | Sr. Member+ | 100$ p/w, funds escrowed on: December 07, 2023, 11:41:15 AM
Noted, you will still get paid for the posts made before sig change this week.
Hi Trofo,

It is so good to know that you intended to do it for me but please, let me refuse to receive it. Because it is unfair for other participants in this campaign as well as in other campaigns too. I don't want me to be a special case to get a special deal that if is made, should be done before I changed my signature and avatar and made my announcement here.

Quote
Must admit that I don't understand your motivation to switch to mixer campaign at the moment they are getting kicked from the forum but I am sure you have some deal with manager that makes it worth it.
You made a point for sure.

I have to be frankly that I know I can easily find another campaign after that one. Let me quote CZ here.
10 years ago today, I quit my job, sold my house, and aped into bitcoin.

No, I am not saying you should do the same. Many people asked, how could you take such risks? Me, I knew I could easily get a job... Everyone's risk profile is different. Learn risk management.
531  Economy / Reputation / Re: Ratimov sold his account on: December 07, 2023, 11:35:54 AM
IF it's true, then we'll see first case of sold account with merit source status.
Probably not.

Ratimov/ Symmetrick likely waived / withdrawn his merit source role in the forum. A merit source with 1000 sourced merit is a big one and I can not think of any merit source that likely removed recently than Ratimov/ Symmetrick.
Merit source observation

Indeed, it's a -1000 (there's no great mystery behind the disappearance of this MS) and a +200 (it's more a correction of an "anomaly" for this new MS).

There are clear signals for it too.
Can a merit source re-start Ratimov merit threads.

Two topics are now in Archival.
Re: Helping Potential Legendary, Hero, Senior and Full Members (May 2023 Update)
[Merit] Help newbies and those who have a little left to the next rank

I don't know the account was sold or still belongs to the real owner. OP did not give any proof for this accusation so for now, I assume it is an invalid one because of Presumption of innocence.
532  Bitcoin / Mining / A first Bitcoin mining calculator tool on: December 07, 2023, 05:30:29 AM
Bitcoin is a Proof of Work blockchain and it works with mining activities from miners. Miners turn on their mining rigs (now ASICs) to mine bitcoin blocks and confirm transactions when they see profit in short term and / or long term.

They do have to use Bitcoin mining profit calculation tools to estimate what they can get from mining.

I glad to introduce to you a probable first Bitcoin mining calculator tool.

It was launched in 2010 but it is still alive today!

See the archive of the tool in 2010.

It is how it looks like today, in December 2023.
533  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A first Bitcoin block explorer. How does it look like? on: December 07, 2023, 02:23:20 AM
Yes we can check but it is limited to our own transaction and wallet history but if we want to check the details if block, sender wallet address or checking of current fee then we have to go for explorer.
You can import a Bitcoin public address and check its balance as well as transaction history. It's undeniable that block explorers make it more easier to randomly check any address without any more step or storage on your device like with Watch-only wallets.

hmm, I never used Tor for using Bitcoin explore, Indeed i don't care much about our privacy but thanks for suggestions. Whenever I feel that it times to hidden your privacy then I will use Tor browser. .
It's just privacy-wise recommendation.

I am using Blockchain and blockchair explorer for checking purpose which fulfill my need and I think if one explorer already give you all information then why to use different explorer?
I and nobody can force you to do anything. The list gives you different explorers to choose and use, that's it. You are free to do whatever you want.
534  Other / Meta / Re: Letter to Theymos: Provide medium for the forum in the face of the mixer ban on: December 07, 2023, 01:56:37 AM
LoyceV has ability to unban. But he is not a global moderator. How is this even possible?
LoyceV is like some forum users who can whitelist newbies. I don't know how they got those rights to do it but I see nothing is harmful for the community with it (I could be wrong of course, feel free to correct me).

Unban, I think it is not a too relevant term to use about LoyceV's power/ rights/ privileges!
They are all not forum moderators!

anyway, from what I know Theymos and Cyrus(check the link to see cyrus's position) are the admins on this forum.
There are admins who left the forum like satoshi, sirius and recent years, we have only 2 admins: theymos and Cyrus.

Forum administrators
  • Founder and first admin: satoshi. Created this forum on Nov 22, 2009
  • theymos was promoted as one of admins in 2011 together with Gavin Andersen and sirius
  • sirius become the head admin since 2012 since the disappearance of satoshi until 2012
  • Since 2012, theymos was the head admin
  • theymos did not have any special access to Bitcointalk.org and its DNS until around 2013 not sure. It seems theymos mistakenly remembered something with time in 2012 and 2013.
  • Since still searching, forum has a second head admin, Cyrus
535  Other / Beginners & Help / A first Bitcoin block explorer. How does it look like? on: December 07, 2023, 01:41:47 AM
In reality, you can check your Bitcoin balance and transaction history directly with your own wallets, nodes and even don't need any Bitcoin block explorer to do it.

Bitcoin block explorers practically provide a lot of convenience for us. Obviously we have to be careful when using block explorers because they are centralized hosted and our privacy can be leaked. Use them with Tor connection if you do care about your privacy.

Let's return to this topic.

What is the first Bitcoin block explorer in history?
It is built by theymos. Are you surprised?  Cheesy

Bitcoin Block Explorer
It used to be hosted at http://theymos.ath.cx:64150/bbe/
It was live on November 10, 2010.

At some points of time, it was mirror hosted at https://109.123.116.245/
Need mirror for blockexplorer.com

How does the first Bitcoin block explorer look like?
See its archive: https://web.archive.org/web/20101113061427/http://theymos.ath.cx:64150/bbe/

I use it to explore the Bitcoin Genesis block and get a result as follows.

You want to have block explorers today?
536  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Proof of Work Difficulty Adjustment (Retarget) history on: December 07, 2023, 01:21:37 AM
Today, we are familiar with a term Difficulty Retarget aka. Difficulty Adjustment which automatically executes after 2016 blocks that is about 14 days (2 weeks).

In fact the first time it was done automatically is in late of December, months before the Bitcoin Genesis block.

Proof-of-work difficulty increasing
We had our first automatic adjustment of the proof-of-work difficulty on 30 Dec 2009.

The minimum difficulty is 32 zero bits, so even if only one person was running a node, the difficulty doesn't get any easier than that.  For most of last year, we were hovering below the minimum.  On 30 Dec we broke above it and the algorithm adjusted to more difficulty.  It's been getting more difficult at each adjustment since then.

The adjustment on 04 Feb took it up from 1.34 times last year's difficulty to 1.82 times more difficult than last year.  That means you generate only 55% as many coins for the same amount of work.

The difficulty adjusts proportionally to the total effort across the network.  If the number of nodes doubles, the difficulty will also double, returning the total generated to the target rate.

For those technically inclined, the proof-of-work difficulty can be seen by searching on "target:" in debug.log.  It's a 256-bit unsigned hex number, which the SHA-256 value has to be less than to successfully generate a block.  It gets adjusted every 2016 blocks, typically two weeks.  That's when it prints "GetNextWorkRequired RETARGET" in debug.log.

You can read some replies of Satoshi Nakamoto in that thread and get his vision on this.

Some of interesting things you will discover in that thread is theymos' posts.
I generated 5 blocks today on my Pentium processor. Two of them were within 3 minutes of each other.

I have noticed some slowdown since the adjustment, but I still generate a lot of coins. My computer is off while I'm sleeping, and BitCoin bootstraps quickly when I turn it back on. Do you guys-who-are-having-trouble have the BitCoin port open?
This is part of reasons theymos sold his bitcoins very cheap at rate around $0.003 /BTC. Legend!  Cheesy

Around that time I measured with a Kill-A-Watt that 1 kWh could get me 160 BTC, and based on that I thought that BTC was substantially overpriced at the 5 cents or so it was trading at. As a result, I also have the honor of selling BTC at the lowest price ever recorded, $0.003/BTC. 🎉

(That "BitCoin" capitalization... such cringe...)

537  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Do you know a first Bitcoin exchange? What is it, How it looks like? on: December 07, 2023, 01:08:03 AM
Nowadays, as of writing, in December of 2023, there are many cryptocurrency exchanges from centralized (CEX) to decentralized (DEX), where you can exchange Bitcoin to fiat currencies, stable coins, altcoins and even physical items. They are abundant nowadays but in the past, having an exchange to trade bitcoin is a dream.

Let's see what is a first Bitcoin exchange, how it looks like.

The first Bitcoin exchange in history is New Liberty Standard.
  • The exchange owner has an account on Bitcointalk.
  • NewLibertyStandard with an user ID is 26. It means the person is one of very first members of this forum.

How was the exchange rate calculated?

We Buy1,578.78 Bitcoins for $1.00 USD Minus PayPal Transaction Fee.

To buy or sell bitcoins, please send an email to newlibertystandard@gmail.com stating how many bitcoins you would like to buy or sell. Currently only PayPal is accepted for payment. The rate changes at midnight Greenwich Mean Time regardless of whether the new rate has been posted. The time at which the financial transaction begins determines the rate for the transaction.

Our exchange rate is calculated by dividing $1.00 by the average amount of electricity required to run a computer with high CPU for a year, 1331.5 kWh, multiplied by the the average residential cost of electricity in the United States for the previous year, $0.1136, divided by 12 months divided by the number of bitcoins generated by my computer over the past 30 days.

I ordered a single outlet electrical meter and will probably change my exchange rate to the average production cost over one year. I am going to try to implement this starting January 1st.

The exchange owner has some interesting posts which I quoted below.
1. Because some people are not satisfied with the status quo.
Some people don't like that fiat currencies allow money to be created out of thin air. Using a commodity based currency like bitcoins shrinks the fiat economy and increases the commodity based economy. There's a growing movement in a the United States centered around ending the Federal Reserve and returning to a commodity based currency.

Some people don't like that all electronic financial transactions have to go through and be approved by a large financial institution. Bitcoin transactions don't go through any financial institution, so there's never a fee and transactions can't be declined.

Some people don't like that the government can subpoena your complete financial history and companies can review your credit history without your permission. Bitcoins are like cash in that transactions can be made anonymously and thus can't be subpoenaed by the government or reviewed by companies.

Some people like to earn a little cash on the side with virtually no work required. It's as easy as clicking 'Generate Coins' and opening a PayPal account.

Some people believe bitcoins are a good investment. There are more than a few people interested in using bitcoins and that's all that is needed to guarantee that they will increase in value over time.

Some people use bitcoins because they think that they are an interesting experiment and want to see how and by whom bitcoins will be adopted.

I have had people buy bitcoins from me and sell bitcoins to me. Supply and demand, albeit only a small amount, already exists and is all that is really needed. Offering to exchange bitcoins for another currency is ultimately no different from exchanging bitcoins for goods or services. Currencies are goods and exchanging them is a service. I have been trying to think of something besides USD dollars which I can try to buy or sell using bitcoins, but I can't think of anything. Please let us know about whatever you decide to sell for bitcoins. As for the issue of burning through funds, I have written a daily donation into my budget. You can buy all my USD dollars or bitcoins today, but there will always be more tomorrow and the next day. Each person who buys or sells goods using bitcoins, including exchangers, is increasing the bitcoin economy. Everyone, do your part. Buy or sell something in exchange for bitcoins!

What would you buy or sell in exchange for bitcoins?

Here's what I will buy if the price is right.

Paper bowls, about 10 ounces (295 ml), no more than 50 count factory sealed.
Plastic cups, about 16 ounces (473 ml), no more than 50 count, factory sealed.
Paper towels, preferably regular size Bounty Thick and Absorbent, single roll, factory sealed.

I am just seeking your opinion on some thoughts I had recently. NLS states that he/she calculates how much energy is spent for daily BC production. If more and more BC users are involved in generation, the number of BC NLS produces will go down, for the same amount of energy spent. Hence, the price is bound to go up.
Yes, that's correct. I expect the value of bitcoins to increase as the user base increases and decrease if the user base decreases. I do measure my electricity usage, but it's fairly constant.

I mean, NLS methodology is wrong  Smiley
Could you be more specific about what exactly is wrong? Huh

My exchange rate is now influenced by supply and demand in addition to production costs. Bitcoin value will rise and fall in relation to their availability. Cool

On 2009-10-05 the market price of Bitcoin is first established at $0.000764/BTC by New Liberty Standard, the first Bitcoin exchange ($1.00 buys 1309.03 BTC.) The exchange rate history is available at two archived pages: first, second. Their last known exchange rate is $0.005472/BTC on 2010-03-02.

On 2010-04-25 the market price is established again at $0.003/BTC, using the daily volume-weighted trading price of the second Bitcoin exchange, BitcoinMarket.com (PayPal USD trades). The owner, dwdollar, actually started operating it on 2010-03-17, however trading data for the first few weeks is—to my knowledge—not available.

After 2010-07-18 the exchange rate is from the CoinDesk BPI v1 API (https://api.coindesk.com/v1/bpi/historical/close.json?start=2010-07-18&end=2022-05-17).

After 2022-05-18 the exchange rate is from the CoinDesk BPI v3 API (https://www.coindesk.com/pf/api/v3/content/fetch/chart-api?query=...) because v1 has gaps in the data starting on that date.

Two exchanges New Liberty Standard, BitcoinMarket.com have their announcement threads in Bitcointalk too. Not surprised as the forum is very important place for first Bitcoin exchanges and Bitcoin community.
