1321  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New to Bitcointalk - Where to safely purchase Bitcoin? on: January 02, 2023, 08:59:17 AM
1- If I were to transfer my BTC from a cold wallet to a hot wallet would this weaken the security of the cold wallet or increase my chances of being hacked?
It won't

Quote
2 - Where can I securely buy BTC from without paying ridiculous fees?
What is ridiculous fee did you mean?
  • You can check table for exchanges, taker, maker fees, withdrawal fee and reviews from Cryptowisser.com. You can customize the filters too.
  • If you don't want KYC, check kycnot.me

Quote
3 - What are your predictions for BTC in the next 12 months?
Bitcoin will have its next halving in May 2024.

Before the halving, after a bear market bottom is found, it will continue many months with accumulation phase that is the most boring phase.

I've always thought that posters should consider posting in a company's announcement thread or topic but knew that managers could not pay them for doing so or ask them to do so.
I agree.

Good participants should do research about the company, the platform they are hired in campaigns in order to understand about the platform and its products. At the end, with basic understanding, they will be able to
  • Know that company is legit or scam
  • Support the company with their proactive creative idea to improve platform, products; make proposals; and inform the team about bugs, typoes they find

These things should be done naturally to increase probability of success for the campaign and the business. It would be better for all related sides: company, campaign manager and campaign participants.

Matured participants should do it naturally.
1323  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: French Soccer League Predictions and Discussion Thread (Ligue 1) on: January 02, 2023, 08:47:08 AM
With Lens' win over PSG with a score of 3-1, Lens is the only team that has conceded the fewest goals so far in Ligue 1. Didn't expect it, because who can predict PSG's competitors who are looking good so far are Lens and not about Lyon, Lille and Marseille.
The number of PSG's key players who could not be played, this had a very bad impact because it made PSG's performance really drop dramatically.
This defeat again proves a fact that Mbappe relies on his team-mates to play well. He is mostly nothing if can not get support from Messi and Neymar and of course other players. His style is simple, totally relies on his speed and opponent defenders can easily to catch him if he is alone.

Such defeat and such under performance are helpful for Mbappe and I hope that he can learn from it. Especially I hope that he can realize of his weakness and reduce his high ego. He need others to succeed so he should stop his egoistic show.

PSG are still safe at the top of the standings even though they dropped points last night against Lens and of course that doesn't make the PSG team discouraged because they didn't play with a full squad team, so yesterday's defeat made PSG have to improve so they don't lose points in the next game, Lens can just overtook PSG at the top of the standings because they are only 4 points apart
They are safe because they have advantage from their super form in early of season. However, this defeat is not too good for PSG and other clubs in Ligue 1 know that they can beat PSG. This win of Lens gives other clubs more confidence to face with PSG in future.

Important for PSG to learn from this defeat and try to enhance their team by correcting their loopholes. If they can enhance themselves, they can be more dangerous in Champions League to aim at a first trophy there.

1325  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New year's rug pull: Dictum exchange on: January 01, 2023, 07:50:19 AM
About a week ago arbitrum based project called Dictum exchange announced an airdrop.

Eligibility form was open then and claim was supposed to start on 30th December until 3rd of January.
According to this article, airdropped tokens will be locked for one year. One year and now they rug pulled already.

Quote
With 77% supply to be airdropped.
The distribution of their token, the part for marketing, for airdrop is weirdly high, 77%. Is that too good to be true airdrop offer?

They don't have fair launch and use majority of tokens for airdrop (as they announced but it's not a good plan for any project)

More details for this rug pull, here
1326  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How important is fiat to Bitcoin? on: January 01, 2023, 07:43:19 AM
Bitcoin could easily replace fiat -- it would take a long time, but once people realize that their purchasing power is being lowered year after year systematically by a government who would rather spend money that doesn't exist at the expense of their citizens, then people will no longer choose to hold fiat.
Bitcoin won't replace fiat with easily or difficult process. It will never replace fiat.

Nobody will use bitcoin and reject fiat if with bitcoin, they will have to wait for at least 10 minutes or longer to get a first confirmation to be done with their payment for one service.

Lightning Network is another story.

Quote
Fiat won't cease to exist completely, but it will work its way out of the economy by market forces once consumers stop using it.
Fiat exists, paper/ polymer currency exists as well as central bank digital currency (CBDCs) and Bitcoin will not kill any of them. Like USD is a strongest and most popular currency globally, people use their local currency or other currency that are more popular and easily to find in local areas like remote areas.
1327  Other / Meta / Re: What one change would you like to see in bitcointalk in 2023 on: December 31, 2022, 09:28:03 PM
I can't imagine this change ever happening, but I'll keep suggesting it.  Smiley
Merit system, its enhanced version and new rank requirements work well enough to make the shutdown of signature looks to be far from possible.

The purpose of the forum

This forum exists to provide a platform for the free (but ordered) exchange of ideas. If you have an idea to express, then it is probably possible to do it here as long as you follow the rules.

A lot of people come here primarily looking to make money. The forum administration is very happy that people are able to use the forum in order to better themselves; indeed, one of the reasons for Bitcoin's creation was to break the artificial barriers which prevent so many people around the world from attaining prosperity. However, if your attempts to make money conflict with the forum's primary goal of enabling discussion, then you are swimming upstream, and you will not be sucessful in the end.

If you view the forum as some sort of "job" where you complete some basic tasks and get paid, then you will almost certainly be disappointed, and the forum administration will not be sympathetic. If you do make money using the forum, then it will be through innovation and entrepreneurship, not any sort of mindless busywork.

1328  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2022/23 on: December 31, 2022, 09:17:28 PM
For whatever reason you think Real Madrid have a better chance of winning the title, you need to consider Xavi's success this season which has lifted Barcelona to the top of the table. Of course Barcelona are not superior to the quality of Real Madrid's players, but they can surprise at the end of the season. I don't underestimate Barcelona under any circumstances, it's normal to drop points in one or two match.
In the past season, with half of a season, Xavi brought Barcelona to a runner-up position so it is acceptable to require him a titale in this season. Even it is a challenging requirement, it should exist to motivate Xavi and Barcelona players.

They still lack of some important factors but they have one advantage against Real Madrid. They are no longer playing in Champions League that gives them more focus on La Liga. Though I agree Real Madrid are stronger and more experienced from players to coach, I think Barcelona have advantage then chance to win La Liga.

From 2015 Jordi Alba never got a red card but today he get it, it's really pain for him after so long to be clean of the red card in La Liga. Barcelona, although currently at the top of the table, are threatened by Real Madrid, they are also on the same point. Is it possible that Barcelona will fail to win the title again this season? but I hope Xavi has to think of a way for Barcelona to win titles with his current dream squad.
In a weird match when 15 cards were delivered to a referee, red card is unavoidable. The red card impacted Barcelona and even they had a first goal to take a lead, they let Espanoy to score the equalizer. This draw is similar to a defeat for Barcelona and they lost a small gap with Real Madrid.

This match day makes La Liga more exciting as after the match day, two top clubs have similar total points. They are also best candidates for La Liga trophy in this season since beginning until now.
1329  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BLOCKCHAIN? and wheres the Hash? on: December 31, 2022, 02:41:04 PM
BUT...apparently i need the 'hash address'
What a platform usually asks are
  • Where: The address from which you make a deposit to their platform
  • To: The address to which you withdraw your coin from their platform to
  • Transaction Hash: It is to check that your transaction has enough confirmations or not. Usually platform requires 1 to 3 confirmations to credit it to your account balance and allow you trade or bet.
There is nothing called as Hash Address!

TXID
Public Key Hash. Or did they ask your Public Key Hash?

Quote
so my long list of numbers starts with  "bc1qs.....etc.."
There are three types of Bitcoin addresses.
  • Legacy: starts with 1
  • Nested Segwit: starts with 3
  • Native Segwit (Bech32): starts with bc1q
  • Taproot (Bech32m): it belongs to Segwit type, starts with bc1p
1330  Other / Meta / Re: What one change would you like to see in bitcointalk in 2023 on: December 31, 2022, 02:27:24 PM
one thing that bitcointalk should do is to stop the Signatures. Whenever there is a debate of removing spam from the forum, the idea of getting rid of signatures is always thrown by a few members.
theymos had it in his mind too. Before the kick off of merit system and months later, he saw that the initial system did not work well so he enhanced it.

Before the kick-off, theymos asked the community with some Ideas for improving post quality?
What are everyone's ideas for improving post quality?

I have mostly ruled out:

 - Removing signatures or sig ads globally.
 - Requiring payment to wear sig ads.
 - Banning account sales.
-snip-

Initial system
Enhanced system

There is currently no such thing as a "demerit". I'm hoping that the positive merits alone will be fine. I could add demerits pretty easily later on if necessary, though.

Due to excessive garbage-posting, you now need 1 merit to be a Jr Member. All existing Jr Members who didn't meet the requirement were demoted. Also, newbies can no longer set any signature or personal text.

Do you want to ask for Demerit button in 2023?

One more idea
1331  Other / Meta / Re: What one change would you like to see in bitcointalk in 2023 on: December 30, 2022, 04:42:31 PM
Forum bitcoin wallet and extra security such as sms & 2FA verification.
It was asked many times and theymos said it will be available on Epochtalk, not SMF forum software.

Reporter badges Wink.
I revive those topics about reporting

Doesn't even necessarily need to be an app. I just want better UI/UX for mobile. Heck, I'd be very happy even with just having a responsive UI alone.
Not what you ask but you can add either ;wap; wap2 ;imode at the end of URL link. It does not work for table but fine for texts.

Additionally, let's check this
Last update
None of these ideas are new to me. Even if I don't respond to suggestions, I do read them, and they float around in my mind going forward. If it's not already done, then there's some reason why. A big possible reason is that I'm the only person who does development on the current code, and my time is limited. Another big reason is that this is a huge forum with complex dynamics, and even small policy changes can have big effects which need to be thought through very carefully.

An example: a bump button sounds good as a fix for certain very visible problems, but it also codifies a broken system. People would use bots to bump all of their threads constantly, giving "industrial" posters a huge advantage over casual posters. A captcha could maybe help a little, but there are services where you can pay a tiny fee to have captchas solved for you. (Which opens another question: maybe a comparatively tiny fee should be allowed as an alternative to having you solve a captcha.) A better solution would be to replace the concept of traditional bumping with something quite different, with different bumping models for different types of sections. But that requires further thought. If implementing a bump button was free, perhaps it'd be worthwhile to at least do it for now and fix a few minor problems with bumping today. But since it's a clearly-imperfect solution, this isn't even on my miles-long to-do list.

I'm not going to respond here in detail to all of these ideas. It'd be extremely long. I will classify them as OK/maybe/no:

Quote
• A newbie welcome message or link to a welcome thread upon sign-up explaining the basic rules and links to everything they need to know including the full forum rules, helpful guides and FAQs etc. No excuses for not knowing the rules then.
• Dedicated sub board mods for most boards that don't have any mods or non-global mods already assigned (Bitcoin Discussion, Beginners & Help, Off Topic etc).
• More patrollers/mods who just handle sig spam or farmers.
• Restoring the memberlist search and stats (very useful for finding huge farming abuses).
• Enforce the sig campaign guidelines. If a campaign is spotted that is doing little to nothing and is abused en mass by spammers, farmers, bots and copy and pasters they are warned. If nothing changes then they are punished with such things as bans, threads trashed, signatures blacklisted site-wide etc.
• A 'bump button' for the marketplace that only allows you to bump your thread once every 24 hours. Manually bumping by posting will then be disallowed. As mentioned above, posts by lower ranked accounts could not be able to bump threads thus curbing potential abuse.
• A report queue for reported messages. Currently every global and admin are spammed by any reported message and half of the time when you go to handle it it has already been handled, thus wasting everybody's time.
• More admins or demi-admins added to help with account recoveries and other admin duties.
• A captcha added to a user's first post or two/three etc to curb bot usage (purchasing a Copper Membership could remove these).
• Require email verification for new accounts.
• Require email verification first before passwords/emails are changed.
• A Beginners and Help board for the Alt Coin section (the bitcoin one is mostly swamped with alt coin and bounty-related issues).
• Add badges as a reward for high reporters and/or merited users (some perks would also be nice). Maybe we could have a 'most merited' user of the month badge. Prizes or awards could be given at the end of the month/year for the biggest rats/grasses/ass-kissers merited users or reporters.
• More options for self-moderated threads (being able to limit participation to certain ranks ie no Newbies or Juniors etc or banning certain users from being able to post in your thread at all to stop trolls and personal attacks etc).
• Signature bans. Bans that remove the signature for x amount of time or even permanently (actually proposed by theymos but never followed up on). Being able to blacklist an entire campaign's signature would also be helpful for those campaigns that refuse to do anything about spam.
• Certain sub boards shouldn't count to post count or activity (Bounties, Games & Rounds and possibly Off Topic).
• Awarding merit doesn't take you to a new page. Clicking the merit button multiple times could pump up the merit one by one. This would make awarding merit much swifter and less annoying.

OK in principle, would require thought/adjustment/implementation. Many of these things are more complex than they look at first glance.

Quote
• Charging ICOs a fee to make their ANN here. You could even get rid of the ANN board completely and give them their own sub once they've paid the fee. If there's no Ann board then there will probably be no paid bumping because it will be useless, but let them spam away in their own slum and squalor.
• A dedicated Marketplace for the Alt Coin board that would be used for currency sales/exchanges and advertising/requesting services etc (the current one has no description and is being used as catch all for anything and everyting and not what it was intended for).
• Requiring manually whitelisting of all new accounts before they can post. All new users will essentially be shadowbanned until they've been verified by a mod. This will eliminate 99% of bots and spammers before they even start. Spam threads can be trashed on sight before they even become spam megathreads.
• Press board locked/archived as it's served its purpose
• Some local boards have Press and Off topic subs. They should be removed as they're hotbeds for account farmers/spammers and are not necessary here.
• Warnings in red displayed to lower ranked users when they go to post alerting them to the most commonly ignored/broken rules.
• A sub board for highly merited users to encourage constructive topics only by users who have proven their worth here over time (or make the Ivory Tower merit requirement much higher [OMG ITS LIKE SOVIET RUSSIA GULAG]).

Maybe.

Quote
• A publicly displayed 'banned' rank under a person's username for permabanned accounts (people are wasting both theirs and staffs time reporting already banned users and bots).
• Implementing a redirect notice/landing page for when users click an external link urging them to double check the url for phishing and possibly warning them of the dangers of buying things from autobuy links and that they should likely use a trusted escrow etc).
• Require at least one merit to become a Junior Member (bots will never rise past Newbie status then and can be nuked once spotted).
• More donator ranks such as Silver and Gold Member that come with additional perks such as avatars and Full/Hero member-sized signatures etc (which will severely curb account farming and sales). You could also even have an expensive premium 'Platinum' rank (bling bling) that comes with further benefits (for example: image banner in signature, animated gif avatar, custom title, ability to change username etc).
• Remove signatures completely from everyone (or everyone only has a basic signature) and to get one you either need a very high amount of activity & merit or:
B) Buy them via new donator ranks (theymos did initially comment: "This may be a good idea. Though I do think that people who don't pay should be able to get a small signature." [though Newbie signatures have been removed completely since this comment was made]).
• Posts from lower ranked accounts don't bump ICO threads to the top (which would then render paid bump spam useless).
• Two report buttons/queues: one for sig spam and low quality posts and one everything else that is more urgent (hundreds of reports on spam posts are currently burying more important reports).
• A new member rank after Legendary as it is becoming far too common now and will only become more so as time passes. I would suggest fixing Legendary at 960 activity and the new rank is double that at 1920. You could also make the merit requirement very high for this rank so it's only for the crθme de la crθme of users [OMG NAZI RANK ITS LIKE THE RICH KEEP GETTING RICHER].
• Additional perks for Legendary accounts or a higher rank if added (for example: custom title, image banner in signature, clickable link in personal text, access to exclusive sub board etc).
• A captcha added to deleting a post.
• Disallowing lower ranks from posting in Off Topic (this is bitcoin forum, why would they head to that board straight away other than to easily farm their accounts (alternatively, posts not counting towards postcount or activity there would also work).
• If a post is removed then so is any merit awarded (I think some users are deleting posts to hide evidence of abuse).
• More advertisement slots. This forum is badly under-monetised in my opinion and we likely lose hundreds of thousands in lost revenue to signatures and lack of ad slots and visibility.

No. Or not yet. Or the idea would need to be significantly modified.
1332  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I asked ChatGPT on how to earn merit on Bitcointalk on: December 30, 2022, 04:33:12 PM
I hope none of above are plagiarism from the AI bot. It's not a big problem for that bot but indeed for your account. I still think you will be fine even the AI bot gave you plagiarized advice because you mentioned how and where you got it.

Topics about how to earn merits are abundantly created daily to monthly so the AI bot has enough available data (topics and sentences) to make its own list.
1333  Other / Meta / Re: What one change would you like to see in bitcointalk in 2023 on: December 30, 2022, 04:22:22 PM
My only wish is to have an update for Epochtalk - a new forum software. As far as I know, since the last update, the new software was mostly done. Just need
  • Testing
  • Improving
  • Data transitioning

Epochtalk.org

Last update

The software is substantially complete. The main period of development was a while ago; the current work is mainly just maintenance & relatively minor improvements. Try running it yourself and you'll find that it's working, fast, and nearly feature-complete.

The things blocking a transition from the current software to the new software are:
 - There hasn't been enough testing. I think that immediately after transition, a variety of small missed features, bugs, and performance issues would crop up. As a result, if the transition happened now (which is technically possible!), I'd expect the post-transition user experience to be poor for months while these things are fixed, which I don't want.
 - I am the only bitcointalk.org sysadmin and on-demand programmer, and I'm used to the current software. Furthermore, I need to frequently make changes to the current software, but each change I make might require alterations to Epochtalk, which is problematic.
 - The current PHP software, while ugly and sub-optimal in many ways, performs well, especially since I have extensively modified the backend to add features and improve performance. So I don't feel much urgency.
 - The data-transition procedure still has a few known minor bugs.

We continue to work on these issues. I think that ultimately I may need to hire one or more full-time people, since a big problem is that the full transition is likely to create a ton of work which I won't be able to effectively handle alone.

The software is not vaporware (it's long existed in a runnable state, and is currently basically feature-complete), and is not abandoned (look at the git commit log). If anyone is unhappy with the progress, I invite them to take the Epochtalk code and create a competing forum with it; since they won't have to worry about the transition issues, they'd have a much easier time, and their testing will also end up helping us.

In short: If you want the software quicker, go run your own forum with it, and work to get any problems or missing features you find resolved via bug reports, etc. This would increase public interest, provide much-needed testing, and I might even hire you to work on bitcointalk.org when we're ready to do the final transition here.

Huobi is just using a scam token to milk on the money from those greedy traders that believes on his scam project.  Cheesy
I am not attacking Huobi exchange personally but for me (at least for me), if I am trading on Huobi with my account, I would definitely stop it and abandon my account as well as that exchange. After this terrible scam and the pump, dump, wash trade on Huobi, I find no other reason to use this one.

For you, for others, you guys make your conclusions but please do it as soon as possible. Don't make decision too late and get rekted like millions of people got on FTX exchange.

after E. Haaland scored 2 goals in his last league match vs. leeds united here is a statistic that shows that the norwegian striker who plays for 'the citizens' has now scored more goals alone than e.g. fc chelsea or other pl clubs

That is a beast statistics that show Haaland scored more goals than many clubs in Premier League but more than that, Haaland broke another record. Now he is a best scorer who can score 20 goals fastest.
Players who reached 20 Premier League goals the fastest.

With 14 matches to score 20 goals, Haaland is far above a second player in the list, Kelvin Phillips who needs 21 matches (7 more matches than Haaland).

Quote
Erling Haaland - 14 games
Kevin Phillips - 21 games
Andy Cole - 23 games
Ruud van Nistelrooy - 26 games
Diego Costa - 26 games
Tony Yeboah - 26 games
Fernando Torres - 27 games
Alan Shearer - 29 games
Sergio Aguero - 30 games
Do you see the list?

What do you think?
Who can score more goals and do it faster than Haaland?

I guess you knew about Pi coin which is not a cryptocurrency at all. It lacks of so many specifications to be considered as a cryptocurrency, not yet considering about centralized or decentralized network.

Recent days, it has been listed on exchanges but let's see what exchanges listed this superb shit coin.

With these pumps and dumps for this superb shit coin especially on Biconomy and Huobi exchanges, my message (also warning !) for you are
  • Do neither invest in nor trade Pi Network
  • Consider to stop using these exchanges.
  • Why?
    • They have wash trades and you will lose money if you can not control your greed.
    • Their exchanges can collapse anytime by wash trades and manipulations. FTX exchange is a case study which is still hot for you to learn.
    • Exchanges like Huobi already has many investigations about their operations. Do your own research, you will find more investigation about them
  • Many exchanges continue to engage in wash trading
  • BitWise Asset Management

Exchanges are very scam. Please remember it and be very careful when you want to use any exchange.

I can agree that Newcastle is maybe over performing but they are actually playing really good football. And you have to remember they are doing it without their most dangerous player Saint-Maximin all this time. Wilson is also often sidelined and their new acquisition Isak is also injured. So basically their second attack is having these results. I would argue that is solid bench depth, of course we can't compere them to City but I can see them finish inside top 4. Title challenge is a bit far fetched though.
With a second squad and substitution players, Newcastle United can achieve the third position and only have 2 points less than Manchester City (will be 5 if Manchester City win their match). To be frank, Newcastle United did over performed and it is hard to believe they will be able to continue it.

If we consider that logically they will become stronger when injured players are back, they can maintain a third position and complete within a first four positions. It is a logical thinking but it's not certainly because their ending will be decided by their performance, not by quality assessment on paper.

Additionally, they don't have too big differences against Tottenham (3 points), Manchester United (4 points but have 1 more match), Liverpool (8 points but have 1 more match). Top four competition would be so exciting and hot in this season but the growth of Newcastle United will make it more competitive in next seasons.

It is good to pay tax to contribute to your nation and communities you are living in if you think your government is good enough or at least acceptable, not unacceptable corrupted.

Congress killed a landmark wildlife bill to preserve a massive crypto tax loophole.

This article mentioned about wash sales to avoid tax in cryptocurrency market and there are proposal bills to control it like in stock market. In stock market, you can not sell your stocks around a year ending and buy them back a few days later in a next new year. To avoid tax in stocks, the period should be 30 days minimally.

Holding bitcoins through a single year might not be enough to have profit. It should be years.
  • Hodlcamp [1] represents Bitcoin entry/ exit profitability and suggests to hold bitcoins about 5 years and 21 days.
  • Casebitcoin [2] shows a table for Bitcoin & Traditional Assets ROI (vs USD). It should be more than 3-years holding to have good profit.
  • Interesting with Bitcoin Price & ROI on this Date[3] which shows that holding bitcoins more than 5 years will give you very good profit.
