1241  Other / Meta / Re: New bitcointalk rank? 🔥 on: January 28, 2023, 05:51:21 AM
I wouldn't mind a rank called ELITE for those who have earned 2500 merits and have 2500 activity. We should have something for users to strive for even if it is something as small as a new rank. The numbers could even be tweaked but they need to be fairly high as making this rank is an honor IMO. You are the best of the best as far as most would be concerned. 2500 or more "earned" merits is a heck of an achievement as is 2500+ activity.
It is good to have a rank with 2500+ earned merit and 2500+ activities which I can be eligible (of course for other members too).

However as I raised my opinion on this issue, I think having too many ranks is not good (it seems theymos has same opinion on it too) so if there is only one more rank, let's make it as a Lifetime Achievement Rank which should be superb hard to achieve. Like I proposed, let's make it 20,000+ earned merits, not required activities but should be not smaller than required activities for Legendary rank.

Its new rank name can be Elite so we will have an Elite class here Cheesy
1242  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coin with Utility or Coin without any Utility? on: January 28, 2023, 05:44:26 AM
Utility is one of important components for success of a coin or a token. However, it is not a biggest or only decisive component and it must interact with other components to make value and success for a coin / token.

Without utility, it has zero value and zero price on market, zero trading volume too.

With utility, let's see other factors like tokenomics and security that are very important. With a broken tokenomics like GameFi projects, tokens will be dumped by gamers very easily and it is not good for token value and price on market.

With bad security, projects and their treasuries, smart contracts can be hacked, compromised and consequently, tokens can be over minted by hackers than dumped on market. It's not good for token price.
1243  Other / Meta / Re: New bitcointalk rank? 🔥 on: January 28, 2023, 03:52:15 AM
It is not an emergent request for a new rank above Legendary but I see it makes sense. In the past, such request was raised a few times.

theymos has never replied on this idea and likely he did not feel comfortable to deploy it officially.
1244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Approximately 384 Days until the next Bitcoin halving on: January 27, 2023, 01:57:29 PM
It is better to estimate according to the blocks, because an attempt to estimate the days may give a margin of error of about a month, but in any case, the effect of Bitcoin halving will not appear on the price until after about a year has passed, meaning that the effect will not be so rapid that the price will rise directly in a week or two.
I know and we only the exact block number at which Bitcoin block reward will be halved. We can not know when exactly in time and date.

Quote
The difference between them is noticeable:
 425 days 12 hours 32 minutes     https://buybitcoinworldwide.com/halving/
 459 days 4 hours 58 minutes       https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/bitcoin/bitcoin-halving
 459 days 2 hours 58 minutes       https://bitcoinblockhalf.com/
It is understandable to see differences in estimations from different sources. I remembered it was discussed months ago and maybe longer in the past too.

Personally, I don't time the market so I don't time the block halving time. These websites are good enough to give us a raw estimation on when a next block halving might happen.

Some websites to get estimated halving date.

1246  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2022/2023 on: January 27, 2023, 12:12:56 PM
We will be entertained in the FA Cup between Arsenal vs Man City because as many people have said, the impact of Arsenal vs Man City game is expected to have a big impact. The result is indeed very important so it cannot be underestimated just because the FA Cup is less prestigious. For both parties, this match will be taken seriously.
They have different priorities in this season and FA Cup is not at top of their priorities especially Manchester City. I believe Arsenal don't put FA Cup at top of their priority list too because Premier League is bigger and they must assign best resources for it. It is especially important for Arsenal to focus on it and protect the 5 points difference they have against Manchester City.

Quote
Given the hot status of the two clubs in the Premier League, they could be taken into the FA Cup tie before a more important meeting in the Premier League. It was clear that the match, which had been postponed, made the two of them look forward to the meeting. Testing the quality of each player and also bringing together two coaches who had been in one chair.
Of course, they are both big clubs and are competing each other directly so they won't give up the match in FA Cup easily. So I am sure they will contribute an exciting match for us to watch on televisions or on field. However, I don't expect to see their best players to play because they need best players for Premier League and Champions League.

As in the title, is there a chrome extension to receive forum notifications?
What is a kind of notification you want to get?

There are some forum members and teams develop some extensions, userscripts, Telegram bots, so let's find what match your need.

1248  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Know any laptop wallets that have Google 2FA login? on: January 27, 2023, 03:42:17 AM
Buying a hardware wallet is a best solution for you.

If you don't want to buy hardware wallets, let's consider to use multi-sign (multi-signature) wallets. Keep your different multi-sign wallets at different devices so that you won't fall into cases with which all of your devices are compromised that in turn make your funds stolen by hackers.

In my opinion, setting up a 3-3 multi-sign wallet is good enough with 3 co-signers to activate any transaction.

If you want to use safe wallet (multi-sign) from a third party company, you can consider https://gnosis-safe.io wallet. Gnosis safe wallet supports multi chains and tokens too.

The recent sack of Everton coach Frank Lampard will affect the team more in this short time, so I doubt if Everton will even have that strength to compete with arsenal. Even before now Everton have been struggling which they are in the relegation zone.
It is a second club sacked Frank Lampard after Chelsea. After having good debut in Derby Country which helped him to get a chance working for Chelsea, Lampard started to have bad parts of his coach career. From Chelsea to Everton, he failed even he tried to take a job at a smaller club than Chelsea with Everton.

Arsenal are stronger than Everton and they have outstanding form right now. Together with chaotic changes in Everton after Lampard sack, chance for Everton in the match is too small.

Quote
This is a game for arsenal to make more point to gap Manchester City.  The fact is that arsenal will continue to win their game this season, Manchester City has reduced their quality of performance,  it will be very difficult for them to try to meet arsenal in points.
Arsenal have that chance if they beat Everton but don't under estimate Manchester City. They are still be able to catch Arsenal and they have enough player resource and ambition to do that.

This next game against Everton should be an easy one for Arsenal judging by their level this season, Arsenal have been unbeaten in the past 11 games while Everton is struggling in the relegation zone plus they just sacked Lampard. I doubt they will be in good shape mentally to face a very dominant Arsenal side. The gunners will be extending their lead to a 8 point gap.
After beating Manchester United and other big clubs previously, Everton won't bring too much fear to Arsenal. They will start the match with 3 points earning task but being careful is important. When a club like Everton is forcing to the edge, they can bounce very strong like a spring.

Arsenal can expand their gap with Manchester City to 8 points temporarily and create more pressure on their competitor after the match with Everton.

Even though you could say that Tottenham still has hope of finishing fourth in the standings at the end of the season, I personally am not sure that Tottenham will be able to get a ticket to the Champions League next season
Nobody can be sure about future and nobody can be sure about what Tottenham can do in rest of season as well as their final ranking in Premier League.

Quote
because the competition is very tight, for the first and second places Arsenal and Manchester city can be said to be safe. but for the third and fourth positions I can't be sure, even though Chelsea and Liverpool are currently struggling in the mid-table but I still put them in the top four list this season, even though Liverpool and Chelsea are being hit by a hurricane of injuries but I'm still optimistic Liverpool can compete with Manchester United, Newcastle and Tottenham to get tickets to the Champions League next season.
The competition is extremely tight and it becomes more challenging for involved clubs with a sudden participation of Newcastle United. They are not a familiar name in top four competition but actually joined it in this season.

Tottenham can be in top four because currently their differences with Newcastle United and Manchester United are not too big. It can be covered any time if Tottenham play well and those clubs play bad. Though I believe in Tottenham ability, I agree with you that the competition is tight and Tottenham will have to fight to their last sweats to beat other clubs and be qualified for top four.

In their side, Tottenham must help Son Heung Min solves his performance crisis that is worse than expected. Kane has a good season but Son is different. He has a very disappointed season compares to the past one when he was a winner of the league's top scorer (together with Mohamed Salah from Liverpool).
1251  Economy / Economics / Re: How can we end the *VOLATILITY OF BITCOIN* on: January 24, 2023, 03:56:45 PM
You can not do anything and if you can, just very small contribution.

Volatility of Bitcoin is contributed by some factors like its small trading volume, small marketcap and limited regulations on this market.
  • Bitcoin is a biggest cryptocurrency but it is still too small compares to many big tech companies.
  • The Bitcoin market in particular is too small to be manipulated than stocks market. Institutional investors can more easily manipulate Bitcoin market with smaller capital than what they need to manipulate in stock market.
  • Last but not least, the limited regulations on this market gives great chance for big entities to manipulate it.

Educating people around you about Bitcoin is what you can contribute for Bitcoin adoption and let's say Bitcoin volatility.
1252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Bitcoin gaining this much fame despite it's restrictions? on: January 24, 2023, 03:35:22 PM
why it has been talked about this much and gaining more acceptance in my local community despite it's restrictions in my country and is it also gaining this much fame in your environment?
Human are greedy and they're always looking for something which can help them to be richer. Bitcoin is one of most profitable assets for investors so it is noisy on media in the last few years.

You can see how Bitcoin survived through many fuds, crashes in cryptocurrency market as well as many shocks from economics, politics black swan events.

Bitcoin is not dead but it was called as dead 450+ times.

Bitcoin will become stronger and stronger year by year because of Lindy effect that was mentioned in
The Bullish case for Bitcoin. If you love reading books, let's buy this book

One of easiest (but too naive) ways to see people interest in Bitcoin is Google Trend.

Creating a topic is not as easy as it looks.
Topics serve for many purposes
  • Ask for help. If you have trouble and can not find answers from available topics, you can create your topic to ask
  • Share knowledge to help others. Doing this if there is no available topics in the past and if you can create your topics more collective and informative, more educational than previous topics.
I am sure, it is not easy but you don't have to boost yourself to create topics.

with this one having to literally source for contents no one would have seen or given a second thought to. With having to ensure I also avoid the pitfalls of plagiarism or spam.
With source links, you won't plagiarize anything but don't create topics by copying and pasting.

1254  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First thing i will do if Bitcoin become legal tender globally on: January 21, 2023, 04:46:13 PM
WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU WILL DO IF BITCOIN BECOMES GLOBALLY ACCEPTED JUST LIKE THE INTERNET?
Globally accepted is different than globally legal tender.

Globally legal tender means if someone uses bitcoin to buy your goods at your store, you are not allowed to reject.
Globally accepted means you are free to accept or reject bitcoin as a payment method at your store.

Think more deeply, globally accepted does not mean it will be accepted every where on Earth, at all nations and all locations. Like the US. dollar which is a global currency but maybe you won't be able to use it at every location globally.
1255  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trying to steal our Bitcoin or simply hatred for Bitcoin? on: January 21, 2023, 04:42:17 PM
Satoshi has no power over Bitcoin. Nobody has. I mean: we all do Smiley Concensus is the ultimate democracy.
Satoshi can active his (assume Satoshi Nakamoto is male) wallets and get access to his bitcoins then dump it on the market. It can cause panic and somewhat selling pressure but it is all Satoshi Nakamoto can do if he is still alive.

You're right. Satoshi does not have any power to change Bitcoin protocol without enough support from Bitcoin communities. Segwit in 2017 and Taproot in 2020 is great examples that nobody, no single entity can change Bitcoin protocol.

This bull run is giving me and my friends so much joy.
Congratulate and enjoy it if you can  Cheesy

Quote
One even advised me to change my coin to Ustd but I kept the faith and was patient. Some are saying it is the bull run and others are saying it is a bull trap. Most people who have lost money are warning that this bull trap is to attract investors and there might be a fall in price because they think the bull run would start next year.
It is true as per history, a big bull run does not come 1 year or longer before a Bitcoin halving. A next halving of Bitcoin block reward is in 2024 so it is realistic to say a new bull run has yet come.

Bitcoin has a mini bull run but profit is good enough so if you want to take profit, do it and enjoy. If you want to hodl it for longer time and better profit, let's do it too. Even this mini bull run is a bull trap, if you hold your bitcoins long enough, you will not lose that profit or get loss.

Other bitcoin hardcores are saying that the bull is already in the bitcoin space.
Year by year, since 2009, Bitcoin is bullish especially if you look at Yearly Minimum price of Bitcoin.
1257  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk as a Mobile App - Trick for iOS/iPhone on: January 21, 2023, 03:39:16 PM
It is more like a short cut to directly visit a website or a page and it is not a mobile app. Similarly to bookmark pages on browsers for desktop.

You shared a great tutorial to reduce unnecessary time to visit bitcointalk for members but I think the topic title is misleading. Rather than "Bitcointalk as a Mobile app - Trick for iOS/ iPhone", you can change it to "Bitcointalk shortcut for mobile on iOS/iPhone". It's just my 2 cents suggestion.
1258  Other / Meta / Re: Some Newbie ~ Membar got nice rank through pumpkin contest on: January 21, 2023, 03:11:08 PM
Art contests or similar ones are for fun and people are more easily to drop merit on art works which are attractive, beautiful in their point of view. I don't say it is good or bad because if Art contest participants actually did those things, they spent time to think creatively (if not cheating) and create those stuffs so merit is well worthy for their creativeness and effort they put in.

However, as said it is easily to be abused by abusers. I did not observe the Pumpkin contest too closely but I believe merit distributions to artists won't be much different than the 10th anniversary contest. Difference if there is, only comes from lack of participation and merit distribution from theymos.

I heard about Bitcoin years ago but due to my lackadaisical attitude toward things, I ignored because I believed then that any thing bitcoin or crypto are all Ponzi or scam😁.
Ponzi is one of scam types and scams are everywhere, not only in cryptocurrency market, not only in Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is not scam but scammers try to use Bitcoin as one of their favorite scam tools against naive people.

Definitely Bitcoin is created to change the world, to stay here with us. It has yet been dead and won't die.

So, for now you can follow the basic security practice to protect your account from getting compromised, e.g., using a strong password, being cautious of phishing attempts, and ensuring the security of your device. Also, stake your Bitcoin address to prove ownership in the event that your account is hacked.
Not all bad attempts to log in account can be successful.
