1161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Historical "₿" logo day? on: February 24, 2023, 02:25:35 PM
History of Bitcoin logo is from Satoshi Nakamoto and bitboy.

First is from Satoshi: New icon/ logo
Second is from bitboy: More Bitcoin logos, buttons, and also some other graphics. It is the logo we use nowadays but it's imperfection and it was found days ago.  Cheesy

1165  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How somebody can prove that my wallet belong to him? on: February 23, 2023, 02:19:12 PM
What if i catched some mot****er, who is using one of my wallets - how can i prove that it's mine?  Angry Angry
If you posted your address somewhere on this forum and now you can sign a message from it, you can prove that you are not only the current owner but likely the initial owner.

However, it is applied if you want to prove that your account is not hacked (aka one of account recovery methods).

If you don't need to prove your account ownership, that step (signing a message does not mean anything) because if they hacked your wallet and stole your fund, they have access to your private key and can sign any message from that wallet.

How to sign a message
Stake your Bitcoin address here
Often, you need to prove ownership of the account with a PGP or Bitcoin signature

You didn't elaborate what you need but I shared these topics to help you understanding more about importance to secure your private key and sign a message as ownership proof. It is necessary when you need to make a trade, your trade partner will ask you to sign a message too.
1166  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading season? on: February 23, 2023, 02:06:06 PM
Maybe when OP asked about trading season, it is a question about altcoin season.
Above is not predictive indicator and it only represents what happened and on going. You must look at Bitcoin dominance against altcoins, DXY as well as capital distributions in stable coins.
1167  Other / Meta / Re: [ASK] My account is blocked on: February 23, 2023, 01:43:50 PM
From this
Hello!
I registered an account (Hello******hey), after logging into my account I saw a notification: "You have been manually whitelisted by a moderator. If you couldn't before, you can now post normally. Various limits have also been reduced (but not eliminated)."
Please explain the reason for blocking. I didn't even have time to do anything from that account.
to that
I apologize. The wrong notification was inserted.
After registering the account (Hi******ey), a notification was sent: "(Hi******ey), you are banned from posting or sending personal messages on this forum.
You have been permanently banned by a forum moderator, probably due to spam or plagiarism. You may appeal here, but your chances are not good: banappeals...@bitcointalk.org".
Please check what is the matter.
looks like you have a banned account, then tried to create a new account but was restricted by evil IP. Next, you asked for whitelisting. I guess your flow is like this.

About your banned account, reason is either spam or plagiarism or both of them. If it is spam, you can make ban appeal. If it is plagiarism, you can make it too but chance to be given a second chance for plagiarism is very slim.
There's been no policy change. redsn0w wasn't permanently banned due to several factors which made me think that permabanning him would be a net negative for the forum. Nobody is banned strictly because of "the rules"; it's always handled case-by-case, but almost always, plagiarists deserve to be permabanned.

If you think that a ban should be ended, make your case in a new topic from a "good for the forum as a whole" perspective.

Staff do not want to hand out bans for unconstructive posts but if we feel that you as a user are continually making very poor or unsubstantial posts due to your paid signature the following bans will be issued:

First offence: 7 days
Second offence: 14 days
Third offence: 30 days
Fourth: Permanent ban

Your first ban is your first warning. If you have to be banned for a fourth time it is permanent and you will no longer be allowed to participate on the forum under any accounts. Note: If you are banned on one account then you are not allowed to post under any accounts you own for the duration of your ban. The only exception to this rule is Meta where you can discuss the circumstances of your ban if you wish to do so but anywhere outside of that sub will be considered ban evasion and will get your ban doubled, but it is generally best to just patiently wait out your ban and improve your posts on return and hopefully no further bans will be needed.

Warning: Anyone caught copying other users' posts or plagiarising content from elsewhere on the web will be immediately permabanned. You shouldn't need a warning to know that this isn't acceptable under any circumstances.

If reason is spam, you should be banned a few times before, perhaps up to 3 times.
If it is plagiarism, you can be banned immediately.

  • Plagiarism: If you copy some text from somewhere, then you should have a good reason for it, and you must link to the source. Doing otherwise is plagiarism. Changing a few words around doesn't matter. If we find that you plagiarized, then you absolutely will be permanently banned, even if we find it years after you did it.
1168  Economy / Gambling / Re: Diamond 5 Stake, account was hacked on: February 22, 2023, 02:15:16 PM
They do have measures against internal theft they have 2 factor authentication. This is not internal theft your password was stolen or guessed there is no other way. Stake can only verify withdrawals with email or a 2fa of your choice but email code is enabled by default. If both your Stake and email got compromised that means you are probably using a infected computer and could lose access to other things because the link you clicked could have installed a virus. I would recommend cleaning your computer. Stake is not responsible for people securing their own accounts it is your responsibility to make sure you use a strong password and have 2fa on all accounts.
Some platforms as I know have tools to detect and suspend accounts with geographical changes in their accounts log in, activities. I am not sure about Stake.com but initially, the user made mistake and has to bear the loss.

If Stake.com has something to do to increase their security and prevent such things happen on their users better, they should do it. It makes sense.

2FA is not a perfect protection against all threats and hacks. Additionally, exchanges or platforms can not do it completely on their sides. Users must collaborate with platforms and learn how to as well as practice to protect their accounts.
1169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how do I keep my private key safe? on: February 22, 2023, 01:58:11 PM
Do you mean a vault in a bank? I would say no to that because you are trusting a 3rd party with protecting your btc. You should only store your seeds or private key in something that you own and only have access too.
Personal or family vault, at home or somewhere secretly enough but you still can store your backups well without personal vaults.

Quote
If you do not do that you could lose access from a rogue employee and they would not be able to prove who it was. I normal safe for most people the ones you can buy from amazon are good enough most of them have a certain level of protection against water damage and fires. I do not trust a bank more then I trust Google I distrust both of them the same. I think storing your private key in a notepad in your house is safer then a vault in a bank because at least you know that people have not seen it but that is not recommended unless you keep the notepad in a home safe too.
Obviously I don't store my backups at a vault in a bank. I don't store it at online accounts like Gmail, Dropbox, Google Drive as said.

Trust ourselves, don't trust others to save our private keys. Similarly Reminder: do not keep your money in online accounts
1170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how do I keep my private key safe? on: February 22, 2023, 01:32:25 PM
Someone advised me to use Gmail and store them as mails then I taught again, what if my Gmail gets hacked. Is this actually the best way to store them or is there any other ways I can store or Keep them safe?
Storing your sensitive information online is one of worst ways not one of best ways.

Do you believe that Google will keep your data safely and respect your privacy too?

Store your private key offline by paper, steel sheet, vault is better. Vault is good to protect your backups from water, fire and common physical damages.

1172  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Can golden cross on S & P chart trigger buying in Bitcoin? on: February 21, 2023, 04:00:16 PM
So for me, this golden cross on S & P chart is a good sign also for Bitcoin.
A golden cross does not mean price will always move up after that. Historic data of SPX proves that it is not a too good indicator.

I'm thinking more about a fractal between 2019 and 2023 runs and how Bitcoin ended 2019 year with price that is not too high from start of 2019. Perhaps history will repeat in 2023, let's say it will not repeat 100% but very similarly.

Some tweets from Lukasz_wydra give you more data

For the first time in #Bitcoin $BTC history, we are witnessing a death cross between the 50-week and 200-week SMAs. To know what to expect let's check out how the SPX has behaved in such situations:
1958: +36% in 39 weeks,
1963: +65% in 301 weeks,
1970: -20% in 5 weeks,
1974: -35% in 24 weeks,
2001: -29% in 56 weeks,
2008: -29% in 20 weeks.

As you can see, this kind of death cross on the $SPX chart is also extremely rare. Moreover, the turn of the 1960s/70s changes the narrative around it from bullish to bearish.

The golden cross between the 50-day and 200-day SMAs has been confirmed. Here is what effect it had on the price when it appeared the previous times:

Jul. 2014: -76% in 183 days,
Jul. 2015: -29% in 39 days,
Oct. 2015: +69% in 7 days (and +6592% in 781 days),
Apr. 2019: +159% in 64 days,
Feb. 2020: -60% in 24 days,
May 2020: +28% in 89 days (and +573% in 329 days),
Sep 2021: -16% in 7 days (and +46% in 57 days).
1173  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie account got a username change ! First one in my eyes on: February 21, 2023, 03:12:16 PM
Have anyone seen such a username change scenario before ?
There is one account with a similar issue like the user you shared but that account is at a Senior member rank. The account was inactive on the forum months or years but suddenly logged in and made that request. He even shared some information that he wanted to changed his username to avoid doxing risk (or something very closely to that). If his request is approved, he will abandon that account instantly too.

I recalled that a few hours after that request was raised, his voice was listened and when theymos was active on the forum, he approved that request. Solution is changing username to a random one like the newbie case above.
1174  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has the potential for a positive feedback loop on: February 19, 2023, 02:20:37 PM
Satoshi Nakamoto thought that Bitcoin will have a dead ending or very huge successful ending. Since 2009, it seems that we have been witnessing a second scenario in the prediction of Satoshi Nakamoto.

It is another expression of opinion you shared.
Right.  Otherwise we couldn't have a finite limit of 21 million coins, because there would always need to be some minimum reward for generating.  In a few decades when the reward gets too small, the transaction fee will become the main compensation for nodes.  I'm sure that in 20 years there will either be very large transaction volume or no volume.
1175  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: French Soccer League Predictions and Discussion Thread (Ligue 1) on: February 19, 2023, 02:11:05 PM
A superb and confident free-kick by Lionel Messi resulted in a left-sided goal that hit the net and went inside in the 90+5 minute, and this was because the PSG fans shouted Messi's name when they wanted to take a free kick and made him confident.
the hard work and effort from PSG after losing 2-3 to Lille to make it 4-3, and goals from Kylian Mbappe in the 11th and 87th minutes, Neymar's 17th goal and the last goal in added time by Messi in the 11th and 87th minutes. -95.
PSG looked to have an easy win after they got two first goals easily but their defense caused a nightmare for them. Kimpembe made some personal mistakes in the match and the defense system of PSG is in question again.

Neymar again gets another injury before important match in Champions League. He looks very unlucky with important times in Champions League and World Cup. He is unlucky in his career but sometimes he should look at himself and his professional in taking care of his body. His style on field makes opponent players want to tackle him down and it only increase risk of getting injury.

Messi with a super fantastic free kick at injury time saved PSG and prevented a worse crisis for them in Ligue 1.
1176  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why don't miners always join the biggest pool? on: February 19, 2023, 01:44:58 PM
51% is a risk but no a realistic risk. No pool is close and people would leave the pool if it did happen and there is no incentive for any one to make a 51% attack at least from a pool. Miners care about profitability over everything and they will join the smaller pools because they get a bigger cut and that is why 51% attack from a pool will never happen because being in such a pool would not yield any profit for the miners and would only hurt the BTC network but I do not think any miners are currently factoring this into their decisions because it is not close to happening.
Miners care about profitability from mining and to have it, they must receive good shared bitcoins from mining pools as well as have ability to sell it with good price.

If dominant hashrate concentrated in one biggest pool, risk is higher and fud can appear that I am sure will have impacts on market. Miners don't want it and they can proactively do it by choosing pools wisely.

Mining pools in their turns, don't have good reasons to do attacks because when attacks happen, it will bring non happy consequence for all, not only Bitcoin mining pools and miners. Mining pool owners don't want it too.
1177  Other / Meta / Re: Forum activity by year - Chart 2009-2022 on: February 19, 2023, 01:35:28 PM
Two helpful topics for you
The chart for forum daily impression count reveals a lot about forum activities with and without spam endemic as consequence of 2017 bull run and ICO wave, then impacts from merit system and enhanced merit system to reduce spam.

If you want to see more details, look at box plots.
1178  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why don't miners always join the biggest pool? on: February 19, 2023, 01:17:00 PM
Two main reasons
  • First one is mentioned above. Miners usually would like to join pools that are not too big but not too small. Too small pool means probability to find block is small and they will receive very little mining rewards in long term.
  • Second one that is missing is: Miners don't want to make a pool too big with too dominant hashrate that is not healthy for Bitcoin network. 51% attack is one of such risk so miners would like to decentralize their rigs to different pools.
