1061  Other / Meta / Re: Why the forum didn't use the latest version? on: March 26, 2023, 11:57:41 AM
The value created by this forum is in the written content, the old versions focus on showing the writing versus animation.
This is a screenshot of the new update, and I do not see an essential feature added other than the animation.
It is not supported by this forum community. Even animated avatars were detected after theymos stepped in and disabled them all since February 2019.

APNGs are now detected.

With this precedent, I don't think theymos like a new SMF version with animation and more important, more security issues under tip of iceberg.
1062  Other / Meta / Re: Why the forum didn't use the latest version? on: March 25, 2023, 12:31:05 PM
this forum used SMF 1.1.19, IDK why didn't update to the latest version 2.1.3?
Because theymos want to code with things he is most familiar and comfortable with to save his time.

Not all upgrades are good and some are bad in security.

- I am the only bitcointalk.org sysadmin and on-demand programmer, and I'm used to the current software. Furthermore, I need to frequently make changes to the current software, but each change I make might require alterations to Epochtalk, which is problematic.

A big possible reason is that I'm the only person who does development on the current code, and my time is limited. Another big reason is that this is a huge forum with complex dynamics, and even small policy changes can have big effects which need to be thought through very carefully.
1063  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2022/23 Season on: March 25, 2023, 12:22:32 PM
Napoli is playing really fantastic this season and they have a huge advantage in the Italian league and have practically secured the title of Italian champion. Such dominance in the Italian championship has really not been seen for a long time.
In last two decades, Napoli had some good seasons with Higuain, Lavezzi, Hamsik, Cavani but they were beaten by Juventus in Scudetto races. This season is excellent for them, Juventus are no longer be able to dominate Serie A like just three years ago. Other clubs don't have enough strong squads and their performances are not stable. Many conditions to support Napoli and their dream but they actually are the strongest team in this season and deserved to take Scudetto.

Quote
Napoli is also playing great in the Champions League and now practically the way to the final has been opened for them after the draw as they avoided possible matches with the competition's biggest favorites like Manchester City, Bayern or Real before the final.
This season, Napoli has a great chance to do something big in the Champions League, and whether they succeed depends solely on them.
This is a more impressive show from Napoli. They not only play well in Serie A but also manage to do it in Europe at highest level in Champions League. If you ask big clubs in quarter finals, what team are the most dangerous underdog in this season, I bet they will have same answer, Napoli.

Napoli have great chance to go to a final match as they will meet AC Milan in quarter finals and if they move next, their next opponent can be either Inter Milan or Benfica. They are not too strong teams like Manchester City, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.

Tools to check transaction size

In order to minimize your transaction fee, you must use as cheapest fee rate as possible but still meets your need. To achieve this, you must check mempools with and pick relevant fee rate.

Remember to use RBF (Replace-by-Fee) opt-in for your transaction, later you can bump fee.

To each link on the site...

That way it would open links in a new tab
You can do it with your browser settings.

Like in Tor browser.
Settings > General > Tab > Choose "Open links in tabs instead of new windows"

But depends on your Privacy settings, a new page can be loaded normally or not. There will be a pop-up message for you to confirm, agree to load that page or reject it.
1067  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Network Fee Confusion on: March 25, 2023, 05:10:38 AM
My coinbase receipt showed the amount sent, but the recipient received the amount sent MINUS the network fee, so my payment wasn't accepted by the recipient. (i figured the fee was paid by my acct)
Coinbase Commerce fees
Quote
Coinbase charges a flat 1% transaction fee on all cryptocurrency transactions.

For assets hosted on the Ethereum blockchain like USDC, DAI, and ETH, the transaction fee is instantly deducted from your customers’ payment. All transaction and fee information are reflected in your payment details and in generated reports.

You must make your payment including the value required by the recipient (company) plus on-chain transaction fee. Coinbase is not responsible to give you leftover of your payment transaction that exceed value required by that company.
1068  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How I got money today on: March 24, 2023, 03:08:03 PM
How come you are being contacted by a random woman to purchased Bitcoin for her?
I always be careful with such sudden offers that look more like scam attacks.

Honestly in the past, I received offers (not sure on what channels) like "I got 2 BTC stucked on exchange A and because of blah blah reasons, I am not able to withdraw it, could you help me please? Solutions to help me can be blah blah blah. Rewards for you will be 20% or 30% of my BTC when withdraw it successfully"

What will you do with such offers? Believe that it's true and go ahead or ignore it after one second?

My choice is a second option, I don't want to waste my time with scammers.
1069  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How we lived when we had no choice until Bitcoin came on: March 24, 2023, 02:25:04 PM
I love the magic technology Bitcoin is built on and many advantages it gives us but I disagree to make any exaggeration about it. Because it will make people hate Bitcoin more.

Imagine you are doing something like Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) in order to change some people from don't like Bitcoin to like it and use it, you don't need such exaggeration which potentially results in more side effects.

The world spinned before Bitcoin Genesis block and we existed before that block so Bitcoin only gives us another option to choose in our lives. It can be magic, good or nothing depends on each person perspective.
1070  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: March 23, 2023, 04:05:38 PM
I don't think any team feels safe in its current position. Starting from Lazio to Juventus, they still have the same opportunity to win the top four positions. I certainly really enjoyed the competition between the teams. However, of the six competing teams, only Lazio and Atalanta can fully concentrate on Serie A, while the other teams must concentrate on other competitions.
No team in top four currently are safe with their positions and they can slip over the top four any time. However, it is not true to say their chances to finish with a position within top four is the same. They have advantage and disadvantage differently from their current positions, total points they gained so far and next fixtures.

Especially Juventus have less chances among those clubs but they have best form than all opponents. Their seventh position is solely because of their unlucky 15-point deduction but they are climbing up again and starting to challenge other clubs again.
1071  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: had Satoshi and Malmi problems with the .com TLD? on: March 23, 2023, 03:58:15 PM
1. Satoshi Nakamoto created bitcoin and also created bitcoin.org
Why did he not secure bitcoin.com domain. Does he have problem with the .com domain extension?
I mean as a CEO or an entrepreneur, what you are expected to do is to register and secure the two top level domain extensions(.com and .org) to your business name. Why did Satoshi and Malmi register register bitcoin.org and bitcointalk.org and forgot about bitcoin.com?
Do they have to register all domains with Bitcointalk like Bitcointalk.com, Bitcointalk.io, Bitcointalk.xyz, Bitcointalk.space, Bitcointalk.vision?

Check possible domains with Bitcointalk prefix at https://www.whois.com/

Domain names have changes over time and since 2020 April, this forum and bitcoin.org no longer have cross relations.

1072  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin loan for students in higher institution. on: March 23, 2023, 02:59:39 PM
let me know if the forum have a board where students are being support in education by giving them student loan To help them in education
Forum has a Lending board and you can open your loan request topic.

However, you have a very new account so it's hard for you to get a loan without valid collateral. Even higher ranked accounts can scam after they successfully got their loans. So with your new account, no chance to get any loan without collateral.

Actually when you ask for a loan, who care what you need money to do for what purpose? The loan provider can not verify reasons you said so actually they don't mind about such.
1073  Economy / Gambling / Re: Roobet.com | Crypto’s Fastest Growing Casino 🦘 on: March 23, 2023, 02:51:54 PM
the main objective when people say: never chasing losses because people when they lose, then they chase losses and lose again, they keep playing always thinking about recovering the losses, but at the end of the day they lose everything, they sell everything they have and go bankrupt.
People are humanly affected by their emotion (greed, fear, happy, angry, etc.) and usually when we are doing something with bad mood, we probably can not do it as best as we can. Gambling, trading, invest are all affected by our emotion, psychology status so we must control ourselves first.

I only see people discussed about "Don't chase losses", they actually forgot another one but important "Don't chase winnings". Getting loses is bad but getting profit is bad too. After you win a lot, your mind will no longer be sharp and it's when you can lose everything very quickly.

Quote
1 - play for fun
2 - play with money that you can afford to lose (in this scenario there is no loss, the money was already lost the moment the person put it in the casino to play)
Play for fun and play responsibly. If you want to gamble, let's gamble responsibly!
1074  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2022/23 Season on: March 22, 2023, 04:24:29 PM
You can check my analysis yourself: in second place is Lazio. Lazio have 52 points and if they win all the games before the end of the championship they will have 85 points. According to the old Napoli regulations, it would have been enough to score 14 points to catch up with Lazio and become champions in additional indicators. But I just checked and according to the new regulations, if the points are equal, a golden match is assigned, so in order to definitely become the champion Napoli need to score 15 points in the remaining 11 games. This percentage of points scored corresponds to the level of Sassuolo - it is extremely unlikely that Napoli will sink so low.
Nice analysis!

Both conditions will not be met in my opinion so chance for Lazio to be champion is zero, risk for Napoli to lose it is zero too. To conclude, Napoli will be champion of Serie A 2022 - 2023.

Because Lazio will not be able to win all their 11 games and Napoli will be able to win at least 5 more games that is a max required win matches to take the title if Lazio win all 11 games. If Lazio win less than 11 games, Napoli will need to win less than 5 more games to be a new champion.
1075  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2022/2023 on: March 22, 2023, 03:13:15 PM
Ronaldo effect has changed everything about the club, their confidence and moral in every game. I believe they will win the league title if they keep playing with determination and confidence. I know Captain Ronaldo is a man that doesn't like losing matches none love been defeated. Al-Nassr will lead the league again, after the International break.
Ronaldo is not God and he is old so his contribution for Al-Nassr is affected by his age clearly. I agree with you about his contribution that is booster for Al-Nassr players too about increasing their confidence, ambition and results on matches.

Ronaldo is a player who does not want to fail in any competition. In Al-Nassr, he is their captain and surely boosts his team-mates to play better. There are mutual cooperation and benefit for Ronaldo and his team-mates. Together they are playing better after the appearance of Ronaldo in their club.

Ronaldo effects are even bigger and not limited to Al-Nassr or in Saudi Arabia. He helped Saudi Professional League reached more to Europe with many television, media companies paid attention to the league and began to bring Saudi Professional League to European citizens. Around Saudi Arabia, he made noise and forced other nations in Middle East join the race with Saudi Arabia to bring more star players to the area.
1076  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you feel when....... on: March 22, 2023, 02:38:11 PM
How do you feel when ever a project or utility you don't like does very well in a bull market?
In bull market, it's common to see massive success from many projects. In such market, you will read many articles, watch many videos about many 'potential' projects. Believe me, you will know how 'potential' they are in bear market.

Quote
I know that many people don't like meme coins when they were new in past years, how do you feel seeing your friends you call stupid for investing in shiba does very well than all your so called high-quality projects?
With me, after few years here, only Bitcoin is a high-quality project.

If I have to pick altcoins, I will pick only Ethereum, BNB and Dogecoin but my majority of capital will be for Bitcoin like 80%, 10% for ETH, 8% for BNB and 1% for Dogecoin. Last 1% is for risky bet with 'potential' altcoins and I afford to lose money with them.
1077  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could there be any importance and need for some kind of mild regulations? on: March 22, 2023, 01:32:27 PM
I have been thinking that why we really fear the centralized system is not because we detest the idea of control, but because we do not trust the people who are in control, do you agree with me? If there had not been any reason to not trust the people in control, the idea of a decentralized system will never have been.
Trust is a key point and also a dead point.

If you trust a scammer, you lose money, it's clear.

If you trust a good person who runs a platform, that does not mean you will not lose money. Even the CEO does not intend to scam anyone, black swan events can occur even they are barely occur. Like recent crisis in bank system from the USA. to Europe, it barely occurs but when it appears, we have serious issues.

The idea of Satoshi Nakamoto and the growth of Bitcoin network, mining community, user and investor community make it very decentralized. Fortunately, the Protocol of Bitcoin does not allow a single person can exploit it or make serious change in the protocol too easily. It's power of decentralization!
1078  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto space: A Wild Wild West on: March 22, 2023, 01:25:57 PM
A very hard lesson to learn in cryptocurrency market.

If you want to gain profit for your portfolio or get rich, invest in Bitcoin. Only invest in Bitcoin or mainly invest in Bitcoin.

If you can not do this and instead of Bitcoin, you only invest in altcoins or mainly invest in altcoins, I am sure with you that you are taking risk to get poorer. You can get one or a few win with altcoins but at the end, you will get poorer because when altcoins get rekted, you will be burned.
1079  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which one would you rather work for on: March 21, 2023, 02:43:21 PM
If you are called upon to work for a decentralized exchange like Uniswap or Binance exchange which is a Centralised exchange, which offers will you grant yes? Assuming the payment or salary is the exact same amount every month which one will you prefer to work for and why?
You have to see what skills do you have and what are their job requirements (tasks) for you.

You did not describe what you will do for them, like a customer service support (I guess).

Let me say for instance that they both need a community manager or support that can be active in one of their social channels. I will go with Uniswap (a decentralized exchange) because they have fewer complaints daily than centralized exchanges like Binance.
Exchanges will do their customer support via support tickets officially opened at their websites.

Customer support via social media channels are very vulnerable to scammers and impersonators and I am sure those channels if used for customer support, are only supplementary channels, not main ones.

Few complaints from DEX and CEX, are you sure? It depends on many factors like how many customers they have, how smooth or laggy, buggy their platforms are as those factors contribute a lot to needs of customer support and complaints.
1080  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Top 3 Reasons Why Cytpocurrency Gambling is more Addictive than Fiat Gambling! on: March 20, 2023, 03:11:15 PM
2. Anonymity:

The amount of privacy gained by gambling with cryptocurrencies is unbelievable! Non-KYC platform
Not true at most of gambling sites nowadays when they need to have license and have to meet KYC/ AML enforcement from authorities.

3. Thrill of volatility:

We are all aware of how unpredictable the cryptocurrency market is, with prices varying quickly and erratically. Some people may become addicted to the "high-risk, high-reward" mentality as a result of this volatility.
Gambling has many types and price prediction is only part of this industry. I see it is a small part and one of other bigger parts are slot games which are very addictive.

You forgot a most important trait of cryptocurrency gambling, Provably Fair [1, 2]. There are Provably Fair Verifiers to check Provably Fair on casinos such as tools from BTCGOSU
