Yay Variance!
Yay indeed !

Hey elu, in addition the the idle warning SMS / text message thing you said might take time to work on. I have another suggestion I was hoping you might consider implementing a bit sooner. Nothing like today mind you, just sooner then the other sugestion heh.

While I love the idle warning emails, I was wondering if you might add something like this.

Low hashrate warning: <number here> Mh/s

So if I'm running somehing that should always be doing about 600Mh/s and it starts hasing around 550Mh/s for say, 5 minutes... asuming my warning was 550Mh/s. Then I would get an email similar to the idle warning letting me eknow that worker x is hashing below the set threshold.

Only thing I see maybe being an issue is how much time must pass before said emails are sent but 5mins seems to be a standard on most pools with this feaure.

Edit: I just realized I stepped in it a little on this one, didn't consider it would have to be a per worker basis but would still lovee this feaure.

CGMiner said it was testing pool stability, tested good or 5 mins so now I'm back on... FINALLY ater 37mins !

Hope it holds...

Wait, it works again...maybe too much traPHic..
The site keeps going in and out but CGMiner doesn't want to connect. last sharee submitted over 25mins ago.

Oh Noes!!!
WOOHOO it aint just me lol

Was fine til I reset CGMiner.

So that's a PPS thing then ? I use PPLNS on all my workers.

Still don't really get it lol... I know dif changed. I just kinda plug and play miners and ignore most other things which is why I don't really get that lol

Ps; Anyone else having connection issues with CGMiner ?
1689  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3600 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: January 24, 2014, 02:16:25 PM
I reset CGMiner and now I can't connect to BTCGuild, keeps sayin somehing about slow/down and stays on he oher failover pools.

and

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!  New difficulty pushes value of shares to 1 satoshi each...that's very sad...
HUH ?

Side track, I'm working on modifying some code hat displays my BTCG hash rate. Am I correct in the tier system for lack of a better term ?

Mh/s > Gh/s > Th/s > Ph/s

Just want to make sure I'm not mising anything, don't plan on including the Petahash in the code though since it's unlikely I'll ever hit that mark LMFAO.

That's the correct progression.  Next up is Eh/s (exahash) btw.
Maybe if I get rich or extremly F'n lucky I'll hit the Petahash, but Exahash... only in my wildest wet dream will I ever hit that lol.

Thx.

Never say never... Remember, we "only ever need 640k".

(Please tell me you get the reference.  I feel so old when ppl don't. Hah)
Don't get the ref but I asume this is what your talking about.

1691  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Not sure where to put this: bandwidth limit question. on: January 24, 2014, 04:42:17 AM
Ok, so it seems our cable company has changed some things in how they handle bandwitdh for their users etc. by adding monthly limits based on your level of service.

Well, this got me to thinking... just how much combined data (in / out) in MB might I see per month with 600Gh/s ?

Each stratum connection uses only a few bytes per second, plus ~2 KB per minute for work pushes.  So only a few megabytes per day. Speed doesn't matter due to vardiff.

Thx !

Hey Elu, you mind if I PM ya for a bit of coding help ?

I basically want to just copy and paste to you a post I made on a another site for some help to get the coding done for my hash progression.

There will be a server restart on all BTC Guild stratum servers at 0:00 GMT.  This restart is not to deploy new software, but to patch a bug that would arise at the next difficulty change.  The original (and still under use) stratum code for BTC Guild will not handle difficulties above 2.1b when it comes to Pay-per-Share recording.  This was a fix in the new pool software, but since that project has been scrapped, the fix is being rolled into the old software today.
I'm using CGMiner 3.8.1 with my AM sticks, after the restart everything should reconnect right ?

Ideally, restarts as fast as Guild's shouldn't cause problems.  But mining software is pretty unpredictable (see the cgminer crashes a few days ago).  Everytime there is a round of server restarts there tends to be a 5-10% drop in pool speed that lasts about an hour.  Some of that is probably just miners failing over and then coming back a few minutes later.  Some of that is almost certainly mining software/hardware failing to properly handle a disconnect.
Well, in either case I ot two backup pools in my config file. So assuming everything works out, I should drop to one of the backups and then I guess somehow CGMiner should sense BTC is back up and add mee back to it.

Just wanted to thank the forum-goers today.  This outage lasted a lot longer than I would've liked (well, hard to have any outage that is shorter than 0 minutes), and lasted longer than my original projections due to just how long the resync took.

However, for the first time in quite a while, the thread remained clear of useless posts, no demands, no crying foul.  Even my email inbox was *mostly* empty during this event.  The ability to concentrate solely on the task at hand (and providing updates) really made it easier to focus than having to pull double-duty as public relations.
My cat licked his fur today.

;-p

That's cool, but any thought on the Ps ?

No plans on that front yet.  I tend to assume most users have smartphones capable of receiving email alerts.  Once things settle down with the heavier lifting (backend getting debugged/deployed and ScryptGuild), I may add a secondary email field specifically for alerts where users could set it to one of those SMS-emails that the various providers have.
I have a smarphone, but I only get data over WiFi unless I fork out an extra $50 a month for 2gb of data. That's why I asked aboutt a SMS / Text alert option. So for those with data issues such as myself I feel it would be an added benefit.
