641  Other / Meta / Re: Why don't we have a point system for bad posts? on: April 05, 2019, 03:23:18 PM
And how would your system work?

We're going to have shit sources that could mark shit posts? How do you earn credits to tag a post as useless spam?
Or would anyone get those for free, and it will turn into a war where the one with more accounts will win the battle?
What is going to be the effect on an account getting points after points?
How are you going to prevent people from using these as a weapon, especially in Politics and in the Altcoins boards?

Okay, I clearly didn't think this through. Using these points for retaliation would completely destroy such a system.

I've never come across a post that was so bad that it couldn't be reported to the mods.  Usually if it's a shitpost that's exceedingly bad, I'll report it and put the member on ignore so I never have to read another piece of shit post by him again and yes, there are some posts I read where afterward I want to get my time back from the member for having wasted it on nonsense.

So, just because I'm curious, would it be okay to report someone if they're just posting generic 1 sentence replies to threads?
I recently came across someone like that (can't remember the profile) & I thought it wasn't worth reporting because their replies were vaguely on-topic.
Also, if I did report all the post, I'd have to report around 300 posts, since they were all pretty much the same.

Again, after seeing these replies, it's not a good idea indeed.

Edit:

Found the profile I was talking about, by going through my browser history.

642  Other / Meta / Why don't we have a point system for bad posts? on: April 05, 2019, 12:30:08 PM
Sometimes you just come across posts that are bad enough, that you just wish you could do something.
Not all posts that fall into this category are suitable to be reported and the trust system also isn't the right way to deal with them.

Given that you can now give good posts merits, I think there should be something similar for bad posts.
I'm talking about a completely separate point system, which can be used for bad posts that do not necessarily break any rules.

I'm not sure if this has already been proposed in the past, I couldn't exactly find anything with the search function.

I have found LoyceV's thread about a deMerit system, but I don't think that's quite the same as what I'm proposing.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5033455.0

So, I'm not proposing to implement something to remove merit points from someone, I'm proposing to add a separate point system

Why a separate system instead of a deMerit system?
Because then it becomes much more visible to see which users often make bad posts. With a deMerit system, the merit points would just disappear without anyone noticing right away.

Just some food for thought, let me know if there's something wrong with this proposal.
643  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The World’s first lightning-enabled Bitcoin ATM on: April 05, 2019, 11:18:12 AM
this looks like a very strange idea!
Lightning Network is more suitable when you want immediate payments and specially when you want to do lots of them. with an ATM you are buying bitcoin or selling it once and although you may prefer the speed of LN but it is still not a requirement specially when you are buying bitcoin from ATM machines with money.

I guess it could be useful for selling Bitcoin instantly, without having to wait at the machine for confirmations.
Dunno if that's currently the case when you're selling Bitcoins at those ATMs, I've never used one for that.

But yeah, kinda redundant for buying.
644  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling addiction also a result of trauma? on: April 05, 2019, 10:12:42 AM
You won't seek gambling if you're in trauma, and if you're thinking that probability gambling is the effect of trauma; well I don't think so. Probably you're in trauma after you've been addicted to a certain thing not just with gambling but also with another matters. So being into traumatic experience is a situations that you won't hope that it will not happen again, but still lingered in our mind. Mostly, people who undergo this type of scenario will have anxieties and become stressed, thinking that they won't recover after such those bad experiences on gambling addiction.

It's not that you start gambling right after you've experiences trauma, you start engaging in addictive and destructive behaviors after a while.
People do that to cope with the general bad feelings that remain after the trauma.

It's actually something that's pretty well researched, so you're just completely wrong with your statement there.

Here's one research paper that tasks specifically of the prevalence of gambling addiction after experiencing childhood trauma.
The study was done on twins.

https://journals.lww.com/jonmd/Abstract/2007/01000/Association_Between_Exposure_to_Childhood_and.12.aspx

Summary of the study:
Quote
The present study seeks to estimate the strength of the association between exposure to lifetime traumatic events and gambling problems while accounting for the potential contribution of psychiatric disorders, genetic factors, and family environmental influences.
645  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling addiction also a result of trauma? on: April 04, 2019, 03:20:36 PM
It really depends on the situation, some people use it as a coping mechanism to take their mind away from stuff that has happened to them in the past, others do not.
I think that some people are also just genetically more prone to getting addicted, though I'm not sure if studies about that have proven it with 100% certainty.

Also, having certain genetic predispositions doesn't automatically mean that you'll become an addict.
646  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Idea - Ecommerce similar to Amazon.com + Shopify.com? on: April 04, 2019, 02:14:56 PM
It is a lot easier for Amazon to add crypto payments than it is for you to build what they have.

It's also a lot less likely for Amazon to implement cryptocurrency payments.

That said, the chances of OP to be able to build an e-commerce website that's comparable to Amazon are pretty slim.
I don't know maybe it's possible to build something similar without having to deal with all the stock, I don't know something like drop-shipping from another well-known service, but then you won't be able to compete price-wise.
647  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Royal ramble in the casino on: April 04, 2019, 02:10:16 PM
I wouldn't say it's exactly normal, at least not in my country where people are generally more reserved.
Though I have seen people completely lose it in chat on a gambling website, which is a little bit similar.

I guess if you lose all your money and freak out about it, then they're probably addicted to gambling indeed.

Some people do freak out about everything though, I don't think that behavior is only seen at casinos.
648  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Netflix for fruits and veggies on: April 04, 2019, 12:11:41 PM
Well, maybe we throw words, but we really thought about decentralizing the supply of vegetables directly from farmers, this will help save a lot of money to our customers

Thank you, also with this system we can know where fruits & veggies comes from with no expiration date fraud, Hyperledger sounds good..

Thank you! DAO sounds very interesting, do you think this is possible to DAO in our company? Have experience with this in other companies?

Sorry but I'm going to be pretty frank, you really have no idea what you're talking about here.
You're just jumping on everything that sounds remotely good.

I really do not see any benefit of using a blockchain for what you're trying to do here.

On a side note, you talk about "decentralizing the supply", I think you're just throwing out buzzwords with that as well.
You're just cutting out the middle man (auctions) by sourcing directly from farmers.

Usually that would mean that you're able to offer better prices, but that clearly isn't the case here...
649  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Hotel booking sites on: April 04, 2019, 11:46:45 AM
Yeah, Expedia removed the option to pay with Bitcoin as far as I"'m aware of.
Tried booking a vacation last year with them and couldn't find the option any more.

Aside from the services other people have mentioned here, there's also https://btctrip.com/
Seems like this is just for flights, but they offer pretty cheap rates.

https://destinia.co.uk/m/bitcoins allows you to book hotels with Bitcoin.
650  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin related cartoon on: April 04, 2019, 11:04:04 AM
Bitcoin will more be known as what you have used that is good imagination though. Cartoons can speak more meaning than real and easy to understand and spread to people what is Bitcoin. I like your idea OP. Nice work.

Thanks and I appreciate your comment Smiley I am hoping that the next video will be a bigger hit.

Are you planning on doing something different with the next video?
I mean with the general style of it etc.

This one was already pretty good, could just use a little bit more polish. I think I've mentioned that already in your other thread though.
651  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: How to gain trust of users on a new free crypto website? on: April 04, 2019, 10:37:09 AM
Honestly, you just have to make your website look trustworthy and people will automatically try it out.
I know it might be somewhat stupid advice, but you just get the ball rolling and by paying out those first users, others will also try it out.

Unless you're planning on starting some sort of ponzi scheme of course...

Looking at the name, I assume you're thinking of starting something like freebitco.in?
652  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How did today bullish trend affect gambling! on: April 04, 2019, 10:26:02 AM
How would anyone know, I mean I've seen this question getting asked multiple times here and the thread always ends up becoming a spam thread.
Who cares what effect it has on gambling?

Unless you can provide us with some interesting statistics or analysis, just don't bother...
653  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Why Bounty Hunters Should Be Exempted from KYC/AML Procedures on: April 04, 2019, 09:52:46 AM
Not going to happen, these projects are already operating in a legal gray area, so they're going to protect themselves as good as possible by making everyone enter their KYC data.
If you don't like it, you just don't join. It's as simple as that...

Besides, is it really worth it to have your personal documents floating around on the internet for a couple of measly dollars worth of tokens?
I can almost guarantee you that your documents are already for sale on some TOR marketplace, if you're just sending them to any project that offers to pay you.
654  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: DigiPiglets - Physical Crypto Piggy Bank FIRST PROTOTYPE READY on: April 04, 2019, 09:40:09 AM
I cant even believe that Casascius do able to get that level of trust for some people with their coins but as expected that most of them do have thousands of BTC which
those coins wont really be that much for them to stored up or entrust with such service.

I don't think there were that many made of the 1000 BTC coins, so it's not like that many people have them.
Still, there are a fair bit of the 1 BTC and higher ones in circulation, a lot of them haven't been cashed in yet either.
655  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does gambling sites needs to be a mobile friendly or not? on: April 04, 2019, 08:33:29 AM
In this day and age, it's almost a necessity for gambling sites to be mobile friendly.
A lot of people don't even own a PC or laptop anymore, so you'd be missing out on a huge market if your site doesn't work on mobile.

It doesn't have to be turned into an app, just have your regular website look good on mobile.
Any decent developer wouldn't have a problem making a gambling website mobile friendly.
656  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are you tired of creating accounts at multiple exchanges? Here is a solution. on: April 03, 2019, 04:16:10 PM
What the heck is up with all the newbies replying to this thread?
Looks like someone hired some paid shills to bump this topic.

You're not going to gain any trust by doing this...
657  Economy / Services / Re: Get Brand Exposure & Build Communities Using the Steem Blockchain with Oracle-D on: April 03, 2019, 02:37:55 PM
One of Oracle-D's most prominent customers has provided me with a review of their services.
The State of the Dapps platform has worked with Oracle-D on multiple occasions and have been please with the services they were offered.

They had this to say about Oracle-D:

Quote
Oracle-D has an impressive Tribe of content creators that have been helping us out with quality copywriting, objective product reviews and social media outreach. These are skilled blockchain natives that have their incentives 100% aligned with your brand & product; crypto-economics at work
658  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: DigiPiglets - Physical Crypto Piggy Bank FIRST PROTOTYPE READY on: April 03, 2019, 12:31:05 PM
I am not sold on the idea that I would trust this piggy bank with millions of my own dollars. A piggy bank is basically a child's toy to save a few dollars and not a bank account or a serious investment tool to store millions of dollars. This is why I also never store large amounts of money on exchanges and also in online wallets.

I have a sound knowledge on creating my own secure paper wallets, so I am 100% sure that my private keys for my paper wallets are not compromised by someone else, so I will drop millions of dollars worth of bitcoins in them, but not on paper wallets that are created by someone else.  Roll Eyes Huh

Well, people do trust Casascius with their coins, they even have a 1000 BTC coin, which is actually worth a couple of million USD.
I mean, I get that you think it's safer to just make your own paper wallet, but I really doubt that you could achieve perfect security, there's no such thing...

That said, I guess it's always safer to do everything yourself instead of trusting an external company.
However, I'd have no issue using this to store a couple of Bitcoins.
659  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What's for sale at your Craigslist? on: April 02, 2019, 04:32:59 PM
Craigslist hasn't really caught on in this part of the world.
I mean, we do have similar websites here, but they really do not have the same sorts of offers that you'd find on Craigslist.

Too bad that it's such a US-centric thing, I don't think that our local equivalent would ever offer a specific section for cryptocurrency.

It's an extraction tower for making your own Cannabis extracts.  Cheesy

And yet another thing that I could only dream of in my country  Wink

Well, can't give congrats to all players who've won the wagering competition, but I did notice Lutpin's name on there.
So, hereby, congrats Lutpin on winning some prizes in the NEOgas & Dash wagering contests! Tongue
