741  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Tipping Point: Kroger, Starbucks May Ignite Retail Crypto on: March 13, 2019, 09:36:08 AM
Fact check:

Starbucks is a premium coffee chain and frankly how many people drink their coffee on a daily basis? So Startbucks accepting bitcoin is not a big news in terms of adoption!

I disagree. When a global franchise like Startbucks make bold decisions like this, you get a ripple affect on the smaller retail industry, because they look at the bigger franchises for guidance. On January 9, 2014, Overstock.com became the first major retailer to start accepting bitcoin as payments for its goods and this caused a flood of smaller retailers, who followed their example.

This decision is also crucial, because a lot of people criticised Bitcoin in the early days for not being cost affective enough to buy something as inexpensive as a cup of coffee. We are now showing the world that Bitcoin matured enough, that you can buy a cup of coffee with Bitcoin now.  Wink

Sure, there might have been a bit of a ripple effect when Overstock started accepting Bitcoin, but let's not forget that this could also have negative consequences.
Remember when Steam started accepting Bitcoin?

Just a few months later they stopped accepting Bitcoin, which is about the worst kind of 'advertising' you could get.

It would be far better if companies either waited to accept Bitcoin until the general public was ready to use it or if they would stick with it, despite any issues that might arise.

In the case of Overstock, I'm glad they stuck with it and still accept Bitcoin today, but I'd rather have other companies wait until they are 100% behind it.
Not just accept it, to then roll back the decision a few months/years later.
742  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: massive feb visitor collapse in Bitcointalk and Coinmarketcap founding websites on: March 12, 2019, 03:13:51 PM
Well, it doesn't seem to reflect on the prices at least, I'm pretty happy with how the markets are looking these days.

Also, how accurate are these statistics? Aren't they just estimates?
Only Theymos can provide us with accurate visitor stats of Bitcointalk.

It's true that when you look at Google Trends, there's a decline in interest.
But you have to remember that interest was peaking back in late 2017, when we saw an ATH.

Interest was there AFTER prices went up, not before.

743  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Publish0x - The next Steemit? on: March 12, 2019, 01:56:33 PM
Doesn't look too bad, but I'm still going to stick with Steemit.
Sure, Steem isn't perfect, but I actually do like how their coin works.

Just the fact that you can delegate Steem Power and that your vested stake in the platform influences how much your upvotes are worth is just a really neat concept.

That said, there's no reason why these two platforms can't just exist side-by-side.
744  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Beware of nocoiners on: March 12, 2019, 01:36:19 PM
These people might be extremely well-versed and intelligent in their own areas of expertise, but I have the feeling that they just cannot comprehend the potential that Bitcoin has.
Either that or they're actually scared that cryptocurrency might one day take over the regular banking industry, so they're trying everything in their power to smear it.

Whatever it is, people who actually know what cryptocurrency is all about know better than that.
745  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Disorder (Compulsive Gambling, Pathological Gambling) on: March 12, 2019, 01:13:26 PM
Seems like you've added the sources of your information, which is good.
But I would like to add that it would have been far better if you had just written your own content.

That said, it's pretty interesting to read and i can imagine that this could come as a wake up call for some people.

I've done some work for CoinScribble in the past and can vouch for his business.
He's always been very honest in terms of payment and communication.

I've done a review of his service on my Steemit blog:

The proof of lottery win looks great!

I have never bought a crypto lottery ticket.
So, how much does it cost for each crypto lottery ticket, in bitcoin, on the Crypto-Games site?
If there are optional multiplier of ticket, I would like to know the minimum cost of one ticket.

I would say if you want to have a better chance then you will play when there is not after paying from their wagering contest, why? Because the chance will be really low, although the prize is big enough but I do not recommend it. It is better to have higher chance to win decent amount instead of low chance to get higher amount because it seems impossible for me Grin

Sure the chances might be lower when there are that many tickets in circulation, but it's a good idea to just buy a couple of tickets at least.
You do see people win the lottery, even if they only bought like 1 ticket for example.

Imagine if that happens right after the wagering contest, you could walk away with a really big win.
748  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: DO NOT BUY GIFT CARDS! DON'T GET SCAMMED! WARNING WARNING! on: March 08, 2019, 07:47:21 PM
Forum is mostly filled up with scammers so it fully depends on you whether you want to get scammed or not.
In terms of gift cards, they can be reversed which will not make escrow of any use so it is always better to stat far away from such deals.
I’ve seen some peoples selling various gift cards for a lot cheaper rate but once I contact them, they sprightly send their addresses for payment without any clarification. Gift card sellers cannot be trusted as we don’t even know from which source have the GC’s came.

Oh FFS, the forum is not mostly made up of scammers.
You know there are other parts to this forum than just the Services section, right?

The only reason why anyone gets scammed is because people let themselves be scammed.
Don't trade without escrow, is that such a hard rule to follow?

If people can cancel gift cards, just ask for escrow for the entire period during which gift cards can get cancelled.
Or go with a trusted seller that has hundreds of positive reviews.

Or maybe just stay away from gift cards entirely, in general, there's a good chance that they're obtained via fraud.

I just can't believe people are this stupid and that they always blame it on the forum or whatever.

And gamblers seem to be very lucky this month so far with Bitcoin:

...

Investors will catch up again though.

Yes, that's for sure. But it's good to see that players can cause such a dip, 'cause it proves that people can win a nice amount and run. It's a good motivation for those who believe they're doomed to lose.

Indeed, variance can be a b*tch for investors sometimes.
Still, Crypto-games has decent bankroll management because of the limited max. win amounts, so it's never going to be too bad.
750  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to Get Rich Quick - Bitcoin on: March 08, 2019, 01:26:51 PM
You could say that, in essence, he's right that cryptocurrency is one way to get pretty decent amounts of profit.
The thing is that cryptocurrency trading is way more accessible than trading on the stock market.

I've tried out different stock trading platforms, but when I compare them to cryptocurrency trading platforms, I find that there's way less 'hassle' to just trade with cryptocurrency.

Just think about it, I can always withdraw my profits instantly, just because I'm not dependent on bank to process the transaction.
when you pick and choose the right platform, you can start trading immediately, which is definitely not the case when you're trading on the stock market.

And gamblers seem to be very lucky this month so far with Bitcoin:

Haha, yeah tell me about it. Got really lucky when I played some roulette on Monday, after a small streak of bad luck.
Not lucky enough to cause that dip in the investment returns chart, but still went away with a nice profit.

Investors will catch up again though.
752  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is it possible to double capital in 2 months? on: March 08, 2019, 11:14:08 AM
Do you have any assets that you can sell? Or would it be possible to get a loan in any way?
I don't really think it's a good idea to start trading to pay off debts that put your life in danger.

Another option is to find a job that pays really well. A friend of mine works on offshore drilling platforms and makes huge amounts of money for 2 weeks of work.
He doesn't even have a degree, it's something that everyone can do.
753  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How to Protect yourself from Excitement and keep your Winnings Safe on: March 07, 2019, 02:26:31 PM
Your ideas are ok.. Though everything would depend on how trustworthy your friends or relatives are.
There are suggestions about auto locking wallet for days,  weeks or years. I think it is much safer than sending money to your relative or friends wallet.

This is easier said than done, as far as I know there's no easy way to lock your funds.
It's about time that wallets implement a time-lock feature.

If you want to do it the 'hard' way, here's a relatively easy guide:

754  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: What do you think of Utopian on the Steem blockchain? on: March 07, 2019, 11:44:03 AM
I think I saw a couple of posts by those people who try to post on every site to get rewards (like Minds as well). The idea is really good, but I cannot say for the new platform if it can do better than Steem in eradicating the nonsense posters plus the bot voters. You can see that some of the regular bounty hunters also use it and manage to score a few rewards from it. Fair is fair I must say,,, I think the system also cannot detect poor content so well without human voters, so the pool of moderators or super voters must first be big.

The language factor is also a problem I think. A lot of good content expressed poorly due to English are sometimes voted less.

You're talking about Steem in general, right? Utopian has curators that assess the content that's submitted, I've always found the utopian content to be of excellent quality.
I don't really know what other blockchain Utopian could use besides Steem, I mean no other blockchain currently has the same blog/reward functionality that Steem has.

I have contributed (in translation category) for a while on Utopian and I think what they are doing is indeed very revolutionary. Providing a means for open source contributors to earn is something we really need right now. Frankly speaking I find it hard to digest that so many people contribute towards open source without any monetary incentive whatsoever. I myself can't do that even though I use many open source software, platforms etc. So, I think if open source contributors are paid for their time and efforts, even if by a small amount, then they will be encouraged to contribute more and even those who generally don't, they will also look into it.

Best thing about this project is that it has high standards for contributions and you can't just create low quality stuff and try to get paid for it. So yes, I think this project will greatly benefit open source ecosystem.

Yeah, I've published some articles to Utopian under the blog category myself and I was pretty pleased with how they were reviewed.
Also in the development category, you really see some valuable contributions being made.

One guy is even working on his Minecraft mod and being paid for it, just because he's releasing the code publicly.
755  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: After long break I started constant betting and this is what happen today? on: March 07, 2019, 10:43:19 AM
How long did you manage to quit the first time?
Do you think you can just quit again now, or would or be more difficult this time around?

Since you've been able to quit already before, I'd suggest just quitting again by yourself.
Maybe download an app on your phone that records how much money you save by not gambling. I know there are similar apps for quitting smoking, so there's probably one for gambling too.

When you see how much money you save, you might be less tempted to gamble again.

If that doesn't work, maybe it's time to start seeking professional help.

I really couldn't care less about anything that Coinbase does.
I've never used them and will never use them.

Now, I do think it's an incredibly stupid idea to encourage users to save their private keys in the cloud.
Then again, there are people who just keep their coins on exchanges anyway, which is practically the same.

I don't know, I just don't really participate with these Twitter hashtag movement thingies, so don't really have an opinion on it.

I dont know man

You like lager ale or draught

I'd pick the lager, depending on which one it is.
As long as it's not Heineken, it's all good.

Can't be seen with that one, since I'm from Belgium Tongue

I generally want to be in the loop for recent developments regarding cryptocurrencies in general.
By that I mean that I want to know when a certain cryptocurrency project develops something noteworthy.

It could be if they're announcing a hardfork or if they're planning to add important new features.

One thing that I find somewhat annoying, is that I don't really tend to see much news regarding Steem.
I know this is pretty specific, but the current news aggregator I'm using doesn't really show much news that originates from the Steem platform itself.

So if you have any way of incorporating news from these accounts on Steem, that would be an awesome feature that I would gladly use.

760  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Trader Brutally Tortured on: March 06, 2019, 01:14:54 PM
Why isn't that is happening to people like Roger Ver and Vitalik? They aren't running around with a security team.  This guy was probably involved in some shadyt dealings and got what was coming to him.

Sorry, but no-one deserves to be treated that way, besides you're just making wild assumptions here.
I mean there are a number of possible scenarios here and the victim being a shady figure isn't a given.

Heck, your comment sounds like you're saying that everyone dealing with cryptocurrency is doing shady stuff.
