1141  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why Russia isn't using it's full force in Ukraine ? tactically .. on: May 16, 2022, 05:44:45 PM
Russia is using soft power tactics to sway the sympathies of Ukrainian civilians. Therefore, the Kherson region has already announced its withdrawal from Ukraine and the desire to join Russia.

Not "Kherson region", but a puppet government installed by Russians.

Russia acts in Ukraine not as an occupier, but as a liberator. This is much more difficult and longer than bombing everything with air bombs and cleaning up the ruins. But in the long run, it's a winning strategy.

Except out here in the real world they bombed and shelled Mariupol for two months.

More shit from the shitshow formerly known as the Russian military:

https://t.me/stranaua/41950

tl;dr: Russian forces retreated from Kharkiv into Russian territory but "Lugansk Republic" soldiers are not being allowed in by the Russian border agents. So they're basically stuck at the border and waiting to be captured by Ukrainian forces (which to be fair might be a better outcome all around).

There is corroborating info on pro-Russian DNR/LNR channels where relatives of these soldiers are complaining about it, e.g. https://t.me/donetsk_donbass/19977

It seems that, according to some users here, US army colonel Douglas Macgregor, who talks about a possible takeover of western Ukraine by Poland, is also a Russian propagandist.

Retired colonel.

That's how freedom of speech works in the real world. Putin shills like him are allowed to say things. They don't speak for the US government or US military though.

You call a "democratically elected government" what was elected

Exactly. The rest of the straw man nonsense doesn't change that fact. Putin calling it a "coup" doesn't make it so. Corruption unfortunately exists in democratic countries but at least there are tools to fight it. War time restrictions of freedom are unfortunate, however that's happening as a result of invasion, not because Zelensky woke up one day and decided to be a dictator for the next 22 years.

Ukraine pulled off the March 31 election with no major hitch. Voting and ballot-counting proceeded smoothly. The Central Election Commission’s vote tallies corresponded with exit poll results and a non-governmental parallel count. The International Election Observer Mission (IEOM) released a preliminary assessment that noted some problems but termed the election competitive, reported that candidates campaigned freely, and said that the electorate had a broad choice.

Why are you spreading unsubstantiated rumors about Mariupol? There are two videos on May 14 and May 15, and neither fires nor floods are visible there.

Are you serious? How does this make what I said not true? Do these videos cover the entire city? You used to have a decent understanding of how "proof" works, apparently not anymore.

Here is one that shows a fire as a result of turning power on in a damaged building: https://t.me/andriyshTime/892

There are others, can't be bothered to search again for it. You should really do it yourself, you're the one who should be trying to challenge your own obviously wrong preconceived image of what the invaders are doing in Ukraine.

This the SAM defence of Belgorod (I cannot myself confirm), now working full time. Yes, that is Russian territory - not like "Transnistria" or Crimea, it is the Rodina.

https://t.me/belgorod_informant/405

Beautiful. I hope Ukrainians are getting a good exchange rate on this, like a $50k decoy to waste a $1m SAM missile.
1145  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Finland and Sweden OFFICIALLY announce their intention to join NATO on: May 16, 2022, 02:20:25 AM
So can we now expect Putin’s "special military operation" in Finland as well? Russia has already threatened Finland with retaliatory measures. If it should prove to be correct, Moscow may take offensive military action on the eastern border of the another sovereign country.

And a dog may try to chase two cars at once but I don't think that's going to work.
1146  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: May 15, 2022, 10:11:39 PM
Putin has a lot of money. In the billions of dollars, although much of it is likely currently inaccessible due to sanctions. A good deal of his money is held by family members and is not held directly in his name. It has been argued that if the West were to disclose the scope of Putin's wealth, that he may lose many of "normal" Russian people.

Most Russian people wouldn't know or care about anything disclosed by "the West". Many already know and still don't care. Corruption in Russia is not really a secret to anyone, nor are the yachts and palaces of oligarchs or Putin himself.
1147  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: May 15, 2022, 03:25:14 PM
Yes, Ukrainians teleported to the Russian side of the river to conduct a failed crossing attempt. Makes perfect sense in Putinland.
As I understand it, you are discussing the battle for the crossing of the Seversky Donets River?
If so, then on May 12, General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in the Liman direction the Russian troops crossed the Seversky Donets River to bring in the main forces and carry out the offensive.

Look at the map. Siverskyi Donets is all over the place. The thrice-failed Russian crossing with 70-80 pieces of equipment lost was near Bilohorivka. They might have successfully crossed the same river elsewhere, but that doesn't contradict the massive failure at that particular spot.

False, Zelensky did not "make" 100 million...
Zelensky earned much more.

Random tweet saying so doesn't make it so.

What Russian propaganda doesn't realize (and it doesn't matter of course, since this nonsense is for internal consumption in Russia, where everything that comes out of Kremlin is the holy truth) is that Zelensky is just one person in a democratically-elected government, something that Russia hasn't had for decades. Trying to make him look like a corrupt drug addict doesn't mean anything. Ukrainians could elect someone else and the result would still be largely the same. Putin angered an entire nation of 40 million, not one person.

Edit:

Meanwhile in Mariupol - according to random bits of information collected from telegram, so take it with salt and pepper - invaders tried turn water and power on... with predictable results: water spilling into the streets and fires in apartment buildings. Sewer system isn't working either, so even where water main is not broken it will likely end up with sewage backups. Who could have possibly known that it's easier to bomb the city than to actually make it function.
1148  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: May 14, 2022, 09:01:47 PM
Rumor is that it was a failed Ukrainian crossing attempt so of course they tried to pass it off as a win.

The video from the CNN report raises a lot of questions if you start to analyze it in detail.
As a result, it seems that frames from different time periods were taken and mixed with each other.

Again the damn Ukrainians infiltrated Russian-occupied territory to fake a video so that they could post it two months later Roll Eyes

Can not be sure, but the word on the strret is that Terra scammers lost from 18k BTC to 25k BTC trying to defend their scamcion's peg to BTC before they gave up. Citadel of course got the profits from shorting, but whoever wants to again create simmilar shitcoin in the future will probabbly think twice before doing that.

How much did they not lose?

I bet it's enough for them to have been worth it.

I am not sure it is a lie TBH, it is probably the only "reason" that may have, from Putin's view, at least some coherence. However it is mostly a flawed argument, since NATO has not invaded any country. In fact, many countries did not support US stance on Iraq other than US a a few lightweights.

I am still wondering if there is out there a system of early nuclear interception that works in a 300 or so km range from the launch point. That could explain all the fuss about security.

Fair enough, it may be not a lie in the sense that Putin et al may honestly believe it, but the fact is that no one wants to fight Russia. A resource-rich country with nuclear weapons... it's in everyone's best interest for it to be stable and friendly, so much so that even in the face of aggression (like 2008 in Georgia and 2014 in Ukraine) the rest of the world was like "nah, Putin's actually a good guy and if we buy enough gas from him, everything will be fine".

As for interception... considering that NATO deployed Patriots only in Romania (AFAIK) in the 20+ years since the expansion eastward began, and it was Romanians buying it, not NATO "donating" it, doesn't seem like it was a huge concern, at least not geographically. Now probably NATO will stack missile defence three rows deep along the entire border, again a great victory for the geopolitical genius Vladimir Vladimirovich.
1154  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: May 12, 2022, 09:02:57 PM
So now even if Russia is doing steps to protect its national security, you consider it threat?

LOL

I consider the "national security" bullshit a lie.

Finland was one of Russia's most loyal friends. There hasn't been any "national security threat" to Russia from Finland and there won't be. Finns just don't trust Putin anymore - for a good reason. Putin is the biggest threat to Russia's national security so if they could do some "military-technical" things on him that'd be greatly beneficial for everyone.

Meanwhile Russian "diplomats" are threatening Finland:

Quote
Russia will be forced to take retaliatory steps, both of a military-technical and other nature, in order to stop threats to its national security arising.

See above for an example of their "military-technical" capacity.

1158  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: May 12, 2022, 11:45:05 AM
Zelensky (and, by implication, his sponsor Kolomoyskyi) are talking about a very loose border with 'brotherly' Poland, maybe even to the degree that it won't even be necessary to use the dirty-word 'border' since it conflicts with the woke principles of 'openness' and 'unity'.

Your conspiracies are getting desperate. There are no borders between most countries in Europe. Nothing to do with conspiracies or wokeness or invasions, just business. Like there are no borders between states in the US.

Edited to update: Seems like UKR is obtaining some territorial gains in the northeast near Kharkiv. Not an strategic advance to see, but it shows that Putin's army cannot really hold all the occupied territory without unacceptable loses.

Belgorod is now within artillery range.

Russians are now evacuating a village ~10km inside Russia... can you imagine the confusion of people watching TV where everything is peachy and the "special operation" is achieving all its objectives, but now 3 months in they have to leave their village because... reasons.

What kind of evidence do you need? That Azov militants wear SS chevrons, torture and kill captured Russian soldiers? That the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine use the houses of civilians as ammunition depots and firing points? That the provocation in Bucha was staged, filmed with professional film equipment and sewn with white thread? Are you sure that there is not enough evidence in this topic and are you ready to adequately perceive new ones?

As far as propaganda attempts, this is a good effort. You take a known fact (some nazi symbols are known to have been worn by soldiers in this war, some by Ukrainians, some by Russians, but I'm betting you're ignoring the latter one), an unconfirmed video (allegedly Ukrainian soldiers shooting war prisoners), speculation (firing points in "houses of civilians"), and a blatant lie (Bucha was "staged"), and try to pass it all as facts. This works well on Channel 1 of Russian TV and may impress some bitchute viewers in this thread, but for sane people it sounds like the abject nonsense that it is.
