Why don't we just do this.... any accounts which randomly go full derp or appear hacked should have to sign an old address or be locked until a time they can do so.

I was using a moderately strong password which I could remember too. Now I will have to come with another system.

LastPass is a good idea for generating passwords you don't need to remember. You'll need to remember one complex password but then it'll store any others you need. [Link] | [Link with referral ID which gives both of us 1 free month premium].
1564  Other / Meta / Re: Influx of Hacked Accounts on: May 25, 2015, 06:30:04 PM
I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of hacked accounts in the near future (abandoned but high ranked accounts for example). Stay alert guys!

Agreed, also be especially careful trading with people. Even if no one gets hacked, I foresee some people scamming, and then trying to claim they were hacked to waive their liability.

The thing is, how can we actually mitigate that risk? Say someone is trading with me, how can they be sure that a) I'm not hacked and b) the escrow we're using isn't hacked. Especially as the escrows will be the primary targets.
1565  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S5 Setup [HD] on: May 25, 2015, 04:40:41 PM
I have an issues with one of my new S5's. The machine powers up and it looks like the network adapter is working but the green blinking light that shows its working doesn't blink like the others. Is it a simple fix just to hit the button to return it to stock setting to get this working again? I am not in the same location of my machines so its a pain in the ass to go back to reset machine. Like I said, it powers up, the fan spins but it doesn't seem to be pulling an IP address. The machine was working fine then just stopped on day. Thanks

It's hard to say.  It could be a network problem.  If you do a reset that would allow you to know it's going to be at default IP.  And you can connect to it.

With others working in same setup that makes me think you have decent PSU's, and network working in general.   It will be a pain but a reset is not a bad idea to try.

If you can't connect to it or find it, then you're going to have to reset it. If the controller has died then that may need replacing although its reasonably rare that it will die in situ. Usually they arrive DOA after shipping.

And do remember that "default" IP on an S5 is actually DHCP'ed, so it could pop up anywhere.

Glad that it's back, but as previously said it's fairly unacceptable that a forum with such a security aura can still be compromised by attackers.
When will the new forum be happening? It's been in speculation for at least a year, if not longer now. It cannot take this long to code a forum software.

Yeah, DDOS you out of digital existence.
Do you think that they would bother? Surely to take down as many people as it would be worth here it would take more resources than what the attacker could get back.

Yes because a) people are malicious and b) it costs them nothing. There are plenty of "stress test your website" sites that use botnets to do evil things when asked to, either for free or a small fee. The attacker gets nothing other than "winning" the argument.
1567  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4+ Discussion and Support Thread on: May 25, 2015, 04:09:40 PM
If absolutely nothing is happening then its power related. That can be short protection kicked in, undervolt protection (not it) or something else. Have a look about for any small bits of heatsink that may have come off during shipping, and if you can give the case a shake to check for any noise. Then it'd be on to opening up the PSU, but that is NOT something recommended as its dangerous.

Don't hear or see any loose pieces. All connectors are connected.

Contact the Zendesk to arrange a replacement then: bitmain.zendesk.com

Can they do anything with our IP addresses?

Yeah, DDOS you out of digital existence. Which is why I don't think the forum should have added a "Skype username" box on people's profiles. Its just asking for revenge DDOSing.
1569  Other / Meta / Re: It's nice to see the forum is back up. on: May 25, 2015, 03:59:43 PM
I hope you all have changed your passwords and changed your passwords for any emails, services or websites related to your email address or bitcointalk screen name.

Paranoid much ?  Roll Eyes
For users using password generators its really not much hassle, would take <5 minutes to change all important accounts and maybe <2 hours for all accounts.
1570  Other / Meta / Re: About the recent server compromise on: May 25, 2015, 03:37:35 PM
He might not want 2fa because it lowers conversion rate. Less people would use the forum and the forum's only strength is its community. BUT the forum would be still big enough after 2fa. It's a classic in the scene, so ppl will continue to use it. I would use it with 2fa Cheesy

He doesn't need to make 2fa mandatory, just an option.

Received my first spam email last night.   Embarrassed

Welcome to hotmail, where spam emails are the only emails Cheesy

Passwords and secret questions can be changed here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;sa=account.

Also
1) Is there any information on what the additional suspicion was?
2) Was there any content / PM rollbacks?

I have 5x S4+ here and one won't turn on. Will I void the warranty if I open it up? Email already sent to support@bitmaintech.com Thanks

Not unless you damage something, just be careful and slow.

You are an official agent of Bitmain and can speak on their behalf? Thanks

I can't bind Bitmain, but I'll do my best to help you out should anything go wrong.

Opened it up and nothing looks loose or broken inside. Any suggestions?

1573  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntMiner APW3-12-1600 PSU Series on: May 21, 2015, 10:27:18 PM
2 s-3's pull about 1200 watts at freq 250    your gear should do a good job running 3  s-3's

I would do a comparison  to an evga 1300 running s-3's you should get better watts.

Being realistic, what can we actually test on a PSU without proper DC equipment? "Yes it turns on, yes it didn't explode, yes it powered some miners, yes it consumed this much power". We already know these things from the 100s and 100s of S4s its in. The circlejerk of made up stuff is what needs to change, and it probably will now the guy with 7 different accounts is banned.

Basically. All we (most of us I'd imagine) can do is measure AC in and DC out and come to a very rough efficiency conclusion. Most of us won't be equipped to measure anything else.

Dogie, can you ask someone at BITMAIN if they'll stand behind their product by sending a review unit to jonnyguru? I'll gladly put them in touch with Oklahoma Wolf, or even take care of making it happen myself if their English isn't up to snuff.

I could pull out my fluke and tell some about it.  I have not had a reason to use it in a while.    Normally I use my cheaper gear for just getting readings.

I have had 3 S4's all new from Bitmain.  All still work great on PSU not a single issue.   So I personally have not had a issue with Bitmain PSU's.

Asking, I guess it depends if they want to sell 100 or 10,000 of them.

1577  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie accounts used for trolling on: May 21, 2015, 11:10:56 AM
Well if the consensus is that we just report these to moderator I will do that but so far when I've treid that I had no success with my report seemingly ignored  Huh

Are there guidlines for what should be reported ?

It seems a bit unclear. Trolling isn't strictly punished, nor is abuse as long as they confirm to all other rules. So newbie accounts created solely for attacking people don't automatically 'qualify' for nuking AFAICT.
1578  Other / Meta / Re: Wiping threads from 'my new replies to your posts' section on: May 21, 2015, 11:09:00 AM
Top right of the threads you don't want to see, click "unwatch". Apparently not.
1579  Other / Meta / Re: Marketplace trust on: May 21, 2015, 11:08:24 AM
Does the trust rating ever expires?

No AFAIK.

No. In fact it will grow from 'strength' 1 to a maximum of 10 for every month that has passed since the rating was left.
1580  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Example of an Escrow Service - THANK YOU on: May 21, 2015, 10:36:53 AM
Two parties (A and B) who do not trust each other still want to make a trade. A is not willing to send his money first, and neither is B willing to send his goods first. Instead, A and B mutually can trust C, a third party escrow. A sends his money to C, who will hold it while B sends A the goods. Once A confirms receipt of B's goods, he will tell C to release the money to B.

In the event of a dispute, C will arbitrate and may eventually be asked to make a decision.
