PPC can't be that bad, it has been used by Apple before, no?  Wink

As to terracoin, I have never heard of anybody claiming it to be 'green'. It was just a simple bitcoin clone, not much else. There are a few candidates that maybe can claim to be green, ripple, qubic, timekoin etc., ripple being the most serious project along this direction.

We are invited by Bitcoin Foundation to the May 2013 Conference in California USA (http://www.bitcoin2013.com/) for a panel discussion on altcoins.

If any one of you is planning to go to the conference and is reasonably familiar with ppcoin's proof-of-stake concept and design, you are welcome to volunteer because I wouldn't be able to go. I can help to gather some talk points if there is volunteer to present ppcoin.

Thanks in advance,

The name can be changed I think, on the next update for example, it would just take a while for people who are familiar with it to get used to it. But we're at the point where not many people know about PPC so rebranding shouldn't be too hard, I think most that do know about PPC also are connected enough that they'd hear about a name change coming. ECOin is not a bad idea. You could open up a naming competition on here and users submit ideas and then have a poll, keeping PPC could be an option there as well.

Anyway Sunny I do hope you at least consider! I'd really like to see this succeed and that's the only reason I'm speaking up. Ditto for a website redesign.

Also do let us know if you have a plan for getting rid of checkpointing.

I am sorry regarding the name I already said it should be as it is, so let's move on.

As for checkpoint, I am not in a hurry to weaken it as it was the mechanism to defend the last known vulnerability. Eventually it would become not enforced but only advisory. But we are still far from there in my opinion.

Also do let us know if you have a plan for getting rid of checkpointing.
I started a discussion about the design of a tournament net, where checkpointing should be disabled. The purpose is to collect empirical data for strengthening the design and the confidence in the POS scheme. If you have ideas and are interested please leave a post in: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=152809.msg1621726#msg1621726

Yes, refresh to bitcoin v0.7 should come in the next release, likely within a couple months. I'd like to fully understand the impact of BDB limit from bitcoin's side first.

If you're willing to rebrand, I can get some award winning designers work on the rebranding.

EDIT: Bummer, saw your stance on this matter. Well, if you're willing to reconsider, the offer stands.

You probably have heard it a thousand times already, but i would also like the name to be changed.

PPC has by far the most interesting design out here, but i just can't take the name seriously. It's something small, but as long as people feel weird about the name, they will really hold back on embracing it.
Rebranding (if at all possible, i don't know the details of how that would work) would probably improve the popularity a lot.
Make sure you do this right though, don't just change the name without anouncement, make sure to inform people on beforehand so they don't go like "hu where did PPC go? :p"

Kind regards

I agree. Perhaps Sunny could hold a poll to get the communities opinion.

I quite like StakeCoin as a name as it captures the innovative concept of the coin in the name. Any other announcements could come along with the name change to give it extra impact. You could even say PPCoin was the 'beta' name?

PPCoin has a bright future. It's trending upwards in google searches dramatically and imo it's the only other viable alternative currency besides Litecoin.

Guys, please... if you have no bigger issues. A fancy name won't make the coin fly. And if it flies, the name doesn't matter. As far as I am concerned the name could be Crapcoin, and I would treat it the same.

That makes no sense.

PPcoin isn't broken. And on top of that, bitcoin 'broke' the other day. Guess that makes bitcoin broken too according to you.

I assume smoothies claim acts according to:

If it's not proven to be watertight,
expect it to have a leak.
Fits with the name, ppcoin, right?
and the circle is complete.

/ppcoin/src/ppcoind getinfo
always shows
.....
"stake" : 0.00000000,

I had those coins for ages (over 4 months) but still no "stake"
