gear came .  fees for 2 units = 89 usd

could be worse.  I think I won't ask many questions for the time being.
That is on par with what I paid today to clear my single B3 miner. I asked the UPS agent for a breakdoen and it was a total of $46.86  mostly Customs duty and something like $3-4 for the UPS brokerage fee to process the Customs duty and import clearance.

Either the import thresholds have changed or the miner is mis-marked for shipping code.

I'd have to look up the exact code but is supposed to be for:
Electronic equipment, computer, no terminal or display
or something like that.

It also took an odd hop in Japan -- usual route is Shenzhen > Osaka > Anchorage > etc.
This time it arrived in Narita first but then left from Osaka. Er? A bit of a trek there.

That's crazy. My understanding is the state determines the tax.

The state as in "New Jersey"? I doubt it. They would want to collect sales tax obviously but they're not there yet. And that would be more than $89 anyway. There is probably some bullshit "convenience fee" in that amount.

yes broker fee is around 60 and the import tax is about 29.

I did a lot of research after the fact  and will no longer order an s-9 until it drops to 1600 usd plus shipping  as over 2000 is kind of subject and over 2500 is subject to tax.

Is this a recent change or is it specific to China and not Europe or EU (goods origin)?
About two years ago Spondoolies cost more than $2500 with no fee.

Yep, learned that lesson on an S7 buy where the total for two miners was $2,100. Broker fees seem to vary depending on the company UPS uses. When this happened to me, my broker fees were much lower but it took much longer (5-7 days) to clear with the company and was somewhat of a nightmare. Seems to have gone smoothly/quickly in your case.

According to coinwarz.com calculations
My weekly profit after July 09/2016(Bitcoin Halving) is:
56.32 usd x 52 weeks= 2928 Usd ( If I go with weekly calculations, bitcoin difficulty, and bitcoin price  stay same.)

Yet 2928 Usd does not include hardware cost. Therefore I will be break even after a year. If bitcoin price stay same, bitcoin difficulty stay same as well.
Can you check the numbers and let me know if I'm missing anything.

If I have a Antminer s9
Hash Rate is : 12900 ghs
Power watts: 1275+%7= 1365 watts
power cost:10 cents
pool fee: 2%
Bitcoin difficulty: 209453158595.38100
Block REward:12.5 After July 09/ 2016
Bitcoin Usd:638 june 22/2016
Cost of hardware:2100 usd+ power supply+ shipping=Around 3000Usd

yep. Only dif is that I checked yesterday and saw I had to pay US Customs/broker fee of $46.85 to clear for delivery. Then I checked earlier this evening and saw mine went to Korea before heading here. WTF? I've never seen UPS use this route before...

I've seen packages take the long way around, they do it when there is congestion at the ports or a large volume of packages going on the same route.

FYI, I wrote to Bitmain about this and they claim that they haven't changed the shipping codes. The implication is that it's the dollar figure triggering the difference, or UPS has gotten gready.

The fact that every S9 was in excess of $2k while every S7 was under ($1.8k I think) leads me to think that we're in that gray area that Phil indicated where anything north of $2k might be interpreted as commercial and hence subject to duty.

I'm going to take this up with UPS, but I doubt it will change anything.

Bitmain needs to understand that the $2k threshold has an impact on the US market. They should return to pricing that's more sane.

They've been especially greedy this time. They probably would have made much more money if they had priced the S9 lower, assuming that they could fill the unit demand.

well I got the four running.

2 are running on the 4k 2x dps-2000 psu's

1 is running on an evga  1600 p2

1 is running on optimizer's newer designed  breakout board for the dps-1600, dps-2000 , dps-2500  psu's

so far all four are doing well with bigger gable fan.

Some thoughts you need  need  good air circulation if the area is warm.  the fans are on 90%   and we have the big 1600cfm gable fan.  I will bring a kill a watt meter for the gable fan.

we are running 60-65 pcb and 90-95 chip  on all boards.

the batch 1's are at freq 575
the batch 2's are at freq 600

ambient temps were 85f today in the barn

I am going back to setup that older s-7 batch one  and will add more fans as push behind the  intakes.

I still think these need a little more pop then the s-7s' in a psu.
I also hope to get really good fall numbers with these units.

And I will not buy another until they drop under 1800 shipped

Could well be that US Customs is looking at it more as well. I got my both my b1 and 1st b3 without duty being charged and they both were more than this 3rd one. Getting 3 over $2k value each in ~1 month might raise a flag in tracking systems.

As a person who has received invoices for hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of miners Customs Duties have always been $0, unless the tariff code was entered wrong, however there have always been Customs Fee's and Brokerage fees, either with private brokers or UPS/Shipping company brokerages.

@ Philipma, Ditto. Since April 2014 think this is only the 3-4th time I've had to pay duty. I could look back and see what time frames/orders I did when I got chargde but too lazy.. Wink But kinda seems right.

Ok call it Customs fees and brokerage fees, either way it's has been very rare I've had to pay them and since I've gotten at least 1 or 2 of pretty much all of Bitmains generations of batch-1 miners - they've been pricey.

my secondary account.  I am philipma1957

gear came .  fees for 2 units = 89 usd

could be worse.

Has anyone tried DHL? I know UPS and FedEX are charging.

i think dhl charges a lot more to ship it.

dhl      1 s7ln = 67.56
ups     1 s7ln = 82.08
fedex  1 s7ln = 54.51

well based on s7ln fees maybe I will give dhal a shot next time.

but I really think I will just let it drop to  under 1800 before I buy again

i think dhl charges a lot more to ship it.

All my shipments from BMT and AliExpress to SG are with DHL - very fast, minimal paperwork and all web & SMS automated.

I just pay the Goods & Services Tax (GST) upon arrival to my doorsteps - about 7% of declared value.

From Amazon, I used Fedex and UPS before but too many paperwork and delays. Some UPS packages did not arrive!

Changed to DHL and no more issues.

DHL is very much based on location.  Some people will love them others will run into issues.   I am on the very edge of my  DHL driver's route so not so great for me.  Any shipment that goes DHL I can count on him calling me end of day and asking if I can meet at X location or I won't get it that day.  Worst one was around a hour and half away.... I did not have time to meet him so went next day.

I can't find it the name of it on their site but if you don't have gurenteed delivery by them, they reserve the option to send last leg through usps vs driving it to those on edge of route like me.  So again some will work great, but if on edge of delivery they are a pain.
