What happens if I buy ETH on some other exchange and just deposit to Poloniex? Will I get free ETC too?

No. They had to be bought before the fork.

And its not free

But what If i buy some ETH which was not used to move ETC yet? (Like on some forgoten exchange)

Once you move it the ETC will stay at the address you moved it from.

You would have to get a private key that had ETH on it before the fork to have both on that address now.

Dapps dont work on etc....etc must fork....FACT

Dude, get your meds right. They will work just fine when their devs add them to this chain. Give'em some time to sort out their stuff.

@VladZamfir Ethc will need to hardfork to isolate itself from Eth. Its Dapps will be hampered by replay attacks.

Joint Statement from Digix and Maker Regarding Hard Fork

Wherever it makes sense to do so, the "true" version of any deployed contract related to the Digix or Maker contract systems should be interpreted as residing on Ethereum (ETH) "pro-fork" chain. Any system updates will proceed as planned on ETH.

We are not responsible for any ETC stolen via replay attacks against our systems. Users are encouraged to be cautious of replays on ETC and to use a splitting contract such as the one published by Kraken to preserve any ETC they care about.

Pre-fork smart contracts exist on both chains even if their devs support only one. If they have vulnerabilities by design, that's their problem. If they don't care to have their ETC in these contracts protected, why anyone else should?

If it's open source - which should be the only thing to accept - it's easily deployable on the un-censored chain, no matter what someone else (tries) to decide - and this is how crypto should be !
cheers,
ok if etc does fork in future will that mean my etc will split into 2coins aswell...and i get a free balance again?

Not necessarily, it depends on when the fork occurs. If you spend your ETC/ETH before a fork happens, of course you'll be having balance on both chains. If you've already spend your coins, there won't be any on either fork.

This coin could actually have a long term future if when ETH moves to PoS it remains PoW.  The ETH mining pools might jump right over.

If its a hard fork and the exchange where you hold the coin adds the forked coin to the exchange...then yes.

But I think the idea of ETC is not to make controversial forks like ETH did. Only necessary forks that would be necessary to ensure the stability of the network (and not help bail out services running on top of the network and have nothing to do with the protocol itself).

Yes, if ETC were to stay POW that would rattle some cages and get a lot of attention.

how to verify on which chain i am ? could someone make a hash from a block of etc chain after the fork ?

You can verify the height. ETH chain is higher...

cloned go-ethereum from github.com/ethereumproject
Compiled and start syncing

info from eth.syncing is:

{
  currentBlock: 197,
  highestBlock: 1951540,
  knownStates: 223170,
  pulledStates: 113620,
  startingBlock: 0
}

hmmm highest Bloch: 1941540, is this ETC or ETH, not sure because ETCPool shows 1947306 as highest block....
is there a setting to sync to ETC blockchain ?

kl cheers again, i dont spend much, prefer to accumulate.
So i should get etc + the new etchf ,as  long as it  survives and someone helps deploy the new code ( with some other trusted sources to verify it )to prevent replay attacks on dapps

geth --oppose-dao-fork
flag provided but not defined: -oppose-dao-fork

get the go-ethereum like mentioned from ethereumclassic ... strange that it will only sync eth and not etc ...
which one was the last from ethereum at github that will sync to etc chain ?
