Just curious, what's the reason for ssl in stratum?
Or am I way behind on something.

you can't modify ssl network packets thus can't disable devfee

Next version will have ssl on default. The current version is just to make sure pools implement ssl. Claymore is bright.

not entirely true hahaha ... ssl implemented to protect devfee is 1 of the main reason !

As soon as couple more major pools add SSL he will disable plain HTTP entirely

That is the ONLY reason as SSL adds nothing to mining.
Actually it is worse as it adds lag to connection

Actually MITM attack is possible not only to dev fee. Any connections can be modified by hacker if it's not secured.

I encourage all of you to mine with SSL/TLS connection.

MITM attack for miner's traffic? LOL, there are lot more interesting traffic for such capture if you have the skills and desire to do it Wink

The only complains of recent "hacker" attacks were due to total lack or security in Claymore's Remote manager. The bright people who exposed their rigs for external access deserve to be ashamed. RTFM, it was written there. The only purpose of the SSL is to protect dev fee, it gives nothing to us miners.

Just to be clear - i never cheated Claymore's dev fee no matter how easy it was. He deserves to be paid for releasing excellent and feature rich software.

@Claymore

Rig 6xR9 390 1150/1500

v.1.0 - v.8.0 - 0 crashes for all the time.

v.9.0/9.1 – crashes each 10-15 min, various GPUs. (any -i value)

Something is wrong with this version.
Rollback on v.8 returns stability.

@Claymore

Again and again.
Problems can be:
1. PSU  wattage load
2. PSU ripple suppression
3. PSU voltage regulation at different load variations
4. Bad risers and other cables. (Least likely if still working in other versions)
5. Incorrectly configuring windows

Yup, this is true.

SSL was implemented long time ago for mining already but was removed again due to the increased network lag.

The only reason for adding it here is that people cannot circumvent the devfee anymore.

so unsecure is 2.5% versus 2.0% for secure i would guess that extra .5% is how the dev. makes up for the very honorable thieves.

This is the "carrot or stick" approach.

The 0.5% is the carrot for the masses to enter the SSL prison.

When the majority of the miners (sheeps) voluntarily enter the prison, the plain connection will be removed (stick), and escape will be impossible.

Then it will be easy to increase the fees at will.

Same story again.
