We will in the upcoming weeks opening our order book to allow the purchase of our first set of ASIC miners. They are in the early stages of development now and will be ready in the summer of 2013 (yes in just a few months)

Now that summer is officially over, are these ready?

Hi all, I did a network hashrate prediction three months ago (was quite accurate) based on which I decided not to invest in KNC.
Just being curious - did anybody try to calculate a break-even scenario based on actual values ?

godspeed to everybody !

KNC announced a target delivery of latter part of September before they accepted any payments.

It's highly unlikely that people who pre-order have done a mining feasibility calculation with realistic figures, this is what the vendors count on. Most miners have no idea if they are making a profit, you can tell by the number that dump their coins on the exchanges for less than it cost them time mine.

Will a PSU Tester like this one

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PC-20-24-Pin-PSU-ATX-SATA-HD-Power-Supply-Tester-/320615128503

do the trick and power on the miner?

There were some questions raised about whether those are designed for long term use. Not sure whether that is a valid concern or not

I bought a couple of these on amazon, and whether the concerns about long term use are valid or not I do not know, however like my pre-order I am betting that they can at-least handle the load for 3-4 months and I will be inspecting them daily so, its an acceptable risk for me... Time will tell however.

These are simple devices and I'd imagine the bulk of the load is simulated over a resistor or a transistor based current limiting circuit, which usually fail open if they fail at all. I might open one up and inspect one to be sure. If I do, ill let you know what I find and possibly post some pictures for analysis.

Will we need a stratum-mining-proxy to avoid getwork penalties on Slush with KnC machines?  Would restarting the mining proxy hourly give a similar return improvement with KnC machines?  I don't think this would be hijacking the thread but for those who think it might, sorry.

cgminer (the software that KnC has said they are using) is fluent in Stratum.

no proxy needed

That should work.
All they do is measure the voltages.

The testers that are _NOT_ apropriate for long term use are testers that test under load.
They make your power supply work hard to see if there are under load problems

They will get as hot as anything else that is consuming 500-1500 watts.

They typically cost LOTS more than the voltage measuring testers that people have posted.

EDIT: there are inexpensive 'load' testers that are to be AVOIDED for this application.
an example is here
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16899200003&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-PC+tools%2f+Testers-_-N82E16899200003&gclid=CP-kk8_d4LkCFeIRMwod4RcAOA

And here are a couple good power supply load tester pron links (for those interested in such things)

I'm impressed. I tried to do the same and I missed the target by a half.

I'm curious too. Do you care to share the methodology and hypothesis on which you based your decision? (Serious question)

What if the "greater than 400 by a significant margin" they promise Jupiter orders is actually a free Saturn?

I am sure that is not their intention, or else we would have been advised to buy larger or more PSUs

Yeah, but we'd still need more Psu.  I don't think that's much of a problem for most.
