Is there any reason why KNC would keep the volume of pre-sales secret? I mean, I'm not interested in their profit, but I'm interested in the projected hashing power they will bring to the network.
I would imagine all the ASIC vendors not to give out their sales figures to the world unless they were a public company under legislation to report such things. It would help their competition do a SWOT analysis.

Well, HashFast makes their order chain public. Though they don't do a real good job of keeping it up to date.

1. They never pulled the plug on the Litecoin miner. They had never promised any kind of Litecoin miner back then. It was me hassling them non stop to make Mars into one, that's how I struck up a rapport with Sam in the first place, it's in this thread. His response always was the entire point in Mars was to prove of concept of the ASIC code working. He took aboard my comments, and even started a poll on the KnC site, when the volume of people voted 'yes' we want a Litecoin miner KnC only then promised to revisit the idea after the ASIC. They weren't going to develop multiple products simultaneously as that would heap ordinate one or the other project. Now they are working on an FPGA miner.

He made the right call. Litecoin on FPGA is difficult, the performance gain over GPU is marginal (lower power, but cost per hash is similar if not more expensive). There are several products coming to market soon (Jasinlee, Koolio, perhaps Funnow later), and Beekeeper has a demo board. And there are some obvious scams too. There is also an open source miner, though the performance is rather poor.

I don't want to be pessimistic, but here are some facts:

https://www.kncminer.com/news/news-36
We will update this news site as often as we can with news. - Nothing new last 9 days?
We will even have some videos this week from our Swedish assembly factory - I saw 10 sec long video with PCB without chip this week. Where are "videos from assembly factory" from last week?
The first chips off of the production line we will run at full speed in our launch video - We are 3 working days (5 days) from deadline. Where is launch video of working unit?

https://www.kncminer.com/news/news-34
Firstly, our orders for September delivery are now closed - I think, that there is a difference between shipping date and delivery date. Yes, KNC promise delivery of unit until September. - they have to process 1st day of shipping until Saturday and 2nd day of shipping until Sunday.

https://www.kncminer.com/news/news-32
Finally we wish to confirm that yes we are still on track for our delivery towards the end of September. - delivery not shipping (again)

@fanclub: there are just facts, you don't need to advocate KNC now.

bad scenarios...

i think chips stuck at customs for the next 3 weeks... or more
like avalon ones

every chip have to be checked and this takes time

there is a technology transfer issue and homeland producers protection plan

or even worse

He was implying that they should do testing.

I know KnC is on record saying this is a cell based asic, not a hardcopy. But that was said a long time ago, and  if you look at the known facts:

- significantly worse GH/J than competing 28nm (and even 55nm) chips,
- judging by the chip package, massive die size, ~3x larger per GH than cointerra and hashfast
- extremely fast TTM (assuming they meet their goals), with apparently no need for any chip testing
- Chip developed by a company with a trackrecord in doing altera harcopy conversion
- Originally planned to do an FPGA
- PCB tested/photographed with an altera cyclone FPGA that just happens to fit

I have a hard time believing this is not a hardcopy or some other structured asic.

(Note: Im not saying thats a bad thing. Its what I would have done too).

KnC have created a standard cell ASIC.

They aren't significantly worse GH/J than any other competing 28nm company, which has been my entire point the whole time.

The competing 28nm companies are using the same process, at the same node. Just KnC were first and have been honest, and realistic with their expectations, letting the evidence talk for itself when they have something to show.

The other competitors were months late and had to embellish upon marketing to tie up funds and promise figures based on best case simulations, just some have taken it a step further and been very dishonest.

28nm standard cell, is a 28nm standard cell, either you realise this now, or time will demonstrate this fact.

Sure KnC have probably employed margins that may have erred on the side of caution as they saw speed and mitigating risk as the main priority, but we are talking a minor percentage performance difference between competitors from the final result, not major as has been claimed.

That doesn't occur until the next major step down in geometry from 28nm.

Hashfast and Cointera are "Full Custom" ASICs, like bitfury.  Not Standard Cell (or so they claim).  So they could hypothetically be faster.

Anyway, we know what the specs are, and the prices. It doesn't make any difference if it's standard cell, full custom or hardcopy so long as it's cost effective.

which leads you to believe everyone except KnC is lying through their teeth about their specs, and which leads me to question if KnC are doing a full custom design.
btw, VMC is doing a structured ASIC and their efficiency projections are better than KnCs. OF course they may also be overly optimistic, but still.

Besides, you havent explained the die size.

Quote
28nm standard cell, is a 28nm standard cell, either you realise this now, or time will demonstrate this fact.

How exactly would you tell? And how do you explain the picture of the PCB with a cyclone FPGA that was used to test the board? What are the odds a full custom asic would end up with the exact same compatible pinout as a cyclone/hardcopy?

God you're dumb. Full custom isn't the same as standard cell.  And obviously you can create a digital logic ASIC that will be pin-compatible with an FPGA.

Well said.

 Smiley

However....An increased raise in bitcoin price....significant....not very promising.

And I am a seriously FIRM believer in bitcoin....

But with the NSA scandal, and all things considered, nobody can really trust in something they cannot hold...

NO MATTER WHAT!

Anyone who believes in the digital infinite capabilities, is foolish and naive. And believes in something that always be broken or unproven, with sophistication.
That's just the REAL world, folks. It's PHYSICAL, not virtual. Get a grip, get back to reality, and WAKE THE FUCK UP!!!

And that's coming from a serious long time activist, with 15 years + in the freedom movement.

WAKE THE FUCK UP, ALREADY!!!!    Angry

Dude just showed his batshit nuts side. This thread has been so weird.

(talking to thread posters in general) So many feelings and passionate beliefs being spouted without much real discussion. Backing up what you say with reasoning and sources will make people take you seriously. Don't just give us the conclusion!

Day 1 Order here and looking at the genesis block it is a bit depressing. No ROI at all unless KNC gives us some kind of hash rate increase. Sad

edit. If they increased the Saturn to 310gh/s it could ROI. http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/a/be37f17cb1

Day 1 Order here and looking at the genesis block it is a bit depressing. No ROI at all. Sad

tell me about it...

http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/a/8223beeaca

I paid 85BTC for Jupiter/shipping/EU VAT and next 200$ for PSU. Electricity cost is 0.25 here. Even If I have free electricity and start mining today, never get my 85BTC back.

if Jupiter will be 500Gh/s at 640W a will get my BTC in 95 days.

http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/a/40083c6e43

and this is of course unreal, because in 95 days with be diff grow very fast (other competitors).

same as bfl

all lies, september is 1 of october

no chips yet, no tested board, no test production, no hashing, nothing

9 days from last info

people will not ROI, all KNC miners will do loss.

some lucky guys having bfl did roi but it was few weeks ago or more.

knc -> it is impossible for the first order!

Well there'll be ROI, just negative (if we are unlucky). You all mean break-even, right?  Wink
