If you want wireless, I think an ethernet bridge is the way to go.  Configure it on a PC first then move it to the device.

But don't bridges convert ethernet to wifi, rather than the other way around?

But don't most bridges convert ethernet to wifi, rather than the other way around?

The bridge just knows how to handle the data for any ethernet port on any device once configured to be seen by your wireless router first on a PC.  I don't know how it works under the hood.  I used to use a Linksys WET11 and connect it to the ethernet adapter for my GameCube when I played Phantasy Star Online heavily back in the day.

I have one of these on order from China, which I was going to use to set up a backup wifi signal with a 3G dongle:
http://dx.com/p/hame-mpr-a1-wifi-802-11b-g-n-wireless-3g-router-w-1800mah-battery-charger-dongle-122121
As it also has an RJ-45 socket, I think it might be able to convert the 3G to ethernet. If it does, that'll be my problem sorted.

TPLink makes arguably the best version of a wireless bridge, some are also also Openwrt compatible if they have enough memory.

All for about $15. Here is one example.

For those who want to stay on topic and on hardware, has anyone thought about plugging a usb wifi dongle into their miner, so they have backup wifi as well as ethernet connection?

A little googling seems to suggest it should work

http://learn.adafruit.com/beaglebone/wifi
http://embeddedprogrammer.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/beaglebone-using-usb-wifi-dongle-to.html

but I have slight trepidation I plug one in and the miner borks itself.

Any thoughts?

The USB port has been either removed or disconnected from the board they're using.  It was causing problems, or so I was told by customer service a few weeks back.
Really? Bummer, I didn't know that.

So is it possible to use, say, an unmanaged switch with ethernet connection plugged in, but also to convert a backup wifi signal to an ethernet cable that could also go into the switch? That way, should be possible to have two separate sources of web connection, in case one goes down? I should really have looked into this sooner, but figured the USB would be useable for wifi.

TL-MR3420 + USB 3G Dongle

Quote
WAN Preferred
In this mode, the router will try WAN access first;
When the WAN access fails, and 3G access is valid, the router would switch to 3G access;
When the router succeeds to connect to the WAN network, the router would stop the 3G connection and switch back to WAN access immediately.

I bought a ZTE MF627 from Ebay for less than £5 and unlocked it myself. It works with my ISP router (Technicolor TG582n), which doesn't switch the connection automatically, so will probably get the TP-Link one.

just a little nugget of info from Orama would be nice. I have arrived, everything looks good, no info yet etc.
Actually better still, a little nugget from KNC would be better considering the last BIg news we got was on the 26th which was basically telling us we could no longer ask for refunds
 (The big news is that all the production orders that are due for delivery before October 15th have now been confirmed with the factory for final assembly and our production schedule is now locked. As such, we are not able to make any more changes)

Orama seems on line now (23:02 CET):

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=104810
I'm sure he just logged in because someone told him his facebook profile photo had been posted  Grin

Which I have to say, has lasted a lot longer than the Phoenix1969 baby photo's I posted yesterday. I guess I'll just have to keep those in my wallet, next to my tin foil hat...

per talking to who ever it was I spoke to trying to get a refund so I can pay more to this fucking tax I owe, they said it would be 1-2 weeks that I would have it, and I could not reject it either beucause it was a business purchase and does not fall under the 14 day law/rule

Perhaps you can remind them of this:

Refunds are offered up to the day of shipment of your order.

For those that got a refund back when you were able to, was it difficult?  Or did they just go ahead and process it without question?

If everything for Day1, Day2, Day3, and October is pushed back by two weeks, then November orders might not be released until the end of that month instead of in the middle of it.
