since when?
people write custom BIOS for older stuff all the time
not being snarky, really want to know
Sometimes BIOS'es are modified to add features or to allow other OS'es to be installed. Like the Xbox 360 which was sold at a loss to make money on games. Anyone being able to modify the BIOS could install Linux and have a very very cheap system running. Or when people want to add hardware that isn't allowed. But yes MOST people DON'T need to modify the BIOS

Bitcoin is proving to be a great Safe Haven asset. We are up 22 percent from the price of 7200 on Dec. 31 when Coronavirus became global news. That is more than triple the 6.9 percent gold has gained in the same time frame. Who cares if the King went down the last few days. A lot of people are taking profits from a wise safe haven investment they made months ago. Profit taking is happening with gold also and no one is saying its not a safe haven. In the last 3 days, Gold has given up 31 percent of the gains it made since Coronavirus disaster was known to the world. Since December 31 Stocks as measured by Vanguards Total World Index are down about 4.6 percent. Silver isnt even up a full percent in the same time frame. Safe haven doesnt mean you go up every single day stocks go down, it means that you perform better during a crisis. The King is absolutely performing better than Stocks and Gold in a global crisis. Throw in the fact that we are about to have the Halvening, the most joyous event in Bitcoinland, and we may have to create a new sub category of Safe Haven assets. Moon Haven.TLDR: King is Safe Haven, Coronavirus is Super Bullish. Halvening is Moon. Wash ur hands.

I would care less if i am running as unpriv. user on a system that is not network connected. I didn't mention that i'd never use a host with actual user data on it. I thought that would be clear because i was replying to Dabs' "frozen sysimage" approach. I would definitely not use a guest VM but a dedicated box that i can reset via dd or similar disc imaging tools, i wasn't clear on that, as i just recognize while typing this. And yes, it's part of the very basics: there is no 100% security, only 100% security against certain (and therefor known) attack vectors.
I’m gonna say this one last time. Your postulated recovery is weaksauce against anything other than a disk-resident vector. dd ain’t gonna do nothing for you if malware-containing USB infects the BIOS. my bios has a reset to default button for times it all goes wrong. dont conflate things to 2 options when there are many more possibilities and where do the machine level instructions that are executed when the bios reset button is pressed come from? and the table of values that will be loaded? EDIT: i miss EPROMS CP/M here i come (again). RS232 and a terminal emulator is all i need. stocking up on 8" and 5 1/4" floppies now

No one is happy that so many elderly may die, Ehhh... Well I will laugh a bit if Buffet and Munger bite the dust. Also the International Bank of Settlements guy is in his 60s and surely has either hypertension, a crappy heart, or diabetes. Id give him a 25 percent chance of surviving an infection. via Imgflip Meme Generator

The fact of the matter is that it was the boomers who voted in socialism in practically the entire world. They deserve to die, and they need to die before we have even the possibility of building something better.
And I'm saying this as someone with old parents. Good parents at that, even. But a few worthwhile people, if they are, do not make up for an entire world run by old people who deliberately make things worse.
If Corona-chan kills most people over 60 and stops unlimited immigration, then it may in the long run turn out to be a good thing. Even better if the world turns on the chinese for releasing it.
