What do I need to do to access the "Custom Title" option in the profile? Thanks for the answer.

A custom title is only for moderators and VIP members, where you basically need to donate 50 BTC which I doubt anyone is willing to do with the current price.

Lol, where have you been hiding to have not heard about the merit system yet? Go back and read the OP to this thread and right at the start of it you will find the link to the thread explaining it.

Then why users who do not have the status of "moderator" or VIP, have the option "Custom Title" in the profile (for example, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=31288 or https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=41911), but many moderators on the forum do not have this option? For example, theymos (administrator) does not have this option in the profile.

In addition to what "MadGamer" stated, if you're a "well known person" within the community and ask nicely (with a valid reason) then you might get it as well (last person that got a custom title [through a request]).

but many moderators on the forum do not have this option? For example, theymos (administrator) does not have this option in the profile.
It isn't mandatory (just because someone has a certain position within the community).

The way activity is calculated:
The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is updated every hour.

To become a Donator or a VIP, send a PM to theymos to get a unique donation address.

Took the liberty to update it according to the new Activity & new member limits/groups.
Edited with proper number of coins.
malevolent - update: added info about the new rank, changes to the Staff rank tag, removed the deprecated "SCAMMER" sub-rank. Also included info about the posting limits.

Signature restrictions

There are restrictions on signatures, based on your activity/rank.

- Newbie: No styling (including links) allowed. Max 50 characters.
- Jr. Member: Max 150 characters.
- Member: Links allowed. Unlimited length.
- Full: Color allowed.
- Sr. Member: Size allowed
- Hero: Background color allowed

Badges

I added a system of badges to SMF a while ago, though only two are defined now. Here are the current badges:

https://bitcointalk.org/Themes/custom1/images/badges/expert.png Bitcoin expertDev&Tech only. People with this badge know enough about the Bitcoin network to reimplement something very like it from scratch. They are capable of intelligently discussing the Bitcoin network: current protocol, possible attacks, proposed changes, etc. Criteria: Recommendation by an existing Bitcoin expert or core dev and approval by a forum administrator.
https://bitcointalk.org/Themes/custom1/images/badges/qt.png Bitcoin-Qt core developer Dev&Tech only. These are the core developers of Satoshi's Bitcoin client. They are listed here. Core developers are among the top contributors to Bitcoin-Qt, and they are all bitcoin experts, though they don't also get that badge.
https://bitcointalk.org/Themes/custom1/images/badges/hacker.png The Glider(hacker symbol) Awarded for people who have responsibly disclosed forum security flaws.

A core dev does not "outrank" a bitcoin expert (or vice-versa), and it's possible for someone without a badge to contribute meaningfully to a discussion with experts and core devs.

if(activity >= 100)

Shouldn't this topic also include the Merit system in the first post? For a long time I thought this was the ranking system until I googled what the Merits are realized that the system has changed? I would assume that I am not the only one wondering this so this could be quite helpful for new people here.

Edit. I just noticed that a very small and unnoticable one line link has been updated into the first post. I think this should be made bigger, and it would not hurt updating the whole first post to match with the merit table in the link since the current table in this topic is not correct/complete anymore...

Did you read the OP of this thread, and the link about merits that is in the first few sentences of OP?

Currently, you have to have 100 merits to rank up from member to full member.  Then you will need to have 250 merits to rank up from full member to senior member.

1) Self-Custody is a right.  There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

What do you mean?  What is "new ranking scheme?"  Are you talking about merits?  If so read the OP and there is a link in the OP about merits - in the first couple of sentences.  That might be helpful to read that, unless you are asking about something else.

There seems to be a lot of confusion with this new system, apparently plenty of users spend most of their time in the bitcoin and alt discussions and haven't noticed the change. Also I don't see many users actually getting merrits despite a lot of good quality posts, of course not talking about myself here. Would be interesting to see some real data around that as it might only be my own perception. Any others who noticed that too?

There seems to be a lot of confusion with this new system, apparently plenty of users spend most of their time in the bitcoin and alt discussions and haven't noticed the change. Also I don't see many users actually getting merrits despite a lit of good quality posts, of course not talking about myself here. Would be interesting to see some real data around that as it might only be my own perception. Any others who noticed that too?

Even for a newly implemented system that is less than a month old, there is a decent amount of information that is publicly available, including a large number of threads on the topic of merits.

Of course, with some more passage of time, more data will generate to clarify how it is being used, and you may be correct that there are some parts of the forum that use the merits less and likely there are going to be some issues around getting merits down to lower ranks from the upper ranks.

Some threads have been created to attempt higher ranked members to assist lower ranked members to earn merits to rank up or to at least to petition attention to posts that might not have received as much merits as they might seem to deserve.

Further:  Have you looked at the thread announcing the new merit system?

Or, have you looked at the merits stats page that is available to everyone through the merit link that is in their profile page?

1) Self-Custody is a right.  There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

Ok, since it's for charity sake then consider it done!

(someone delete this post and the previous one. Thx)
You people are simply lazy and egoistic, you have to follow the path that every bitcoiner spent years walking in it.
