It is great to see many potential future partners benefiting from crypocurrency's success (AMD). I like that many ethereum chains have still meant GPU mining is a profitable venture. I remember mining numerous crypto on my AMD R9 280x for quite a while. If only my dad knew that the DNotes value today would be much, MUCH greater than the electricity cost of running the machine (which made him turn it off). Oops.

My parents threw out my comic collection when I moved out and went off to college. A pile of Golden and Silver Age books - including some that I've since watched sell at auction for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Who knew...?

Working on a few dynamic banners / widgets for people to display DCEBrief news on their websites. https://dcebrief.com/banners/Still needs some minor tweaking before they can be released. If anyone has any ideas of specific widget styles they would like to see added, let me know. As it stands now, you will be able to pick your number of items to display, width, along with headliner style, the small style with no read more button, and the large style with a read more button.

Received a question on FB today about how long it takes to download and update the blockchain.
It can take up to a day to fully update in some cases. Bandwidth is only one factor, it is sorting through and downloading information block by block, cleaning up and indexing all the information as it goes. When we upgrade to DNotes 2.0 we will be looking into bootstrapping options as well, which will accelerate this process.
We do recommend utilizing the DNotesVault. However, we realize some would rather manage their own wallet, so we will continue to work to streamline DNotes on all fronts. That is one of the great things about cryptocurrency, it gives you the option to use it in the way that fits your needs and preferences.

It really goes to show the differential in perceived value over time.
With items like collectibles, they were once ubiquitous and everybody knew what they were and/or had easy access to them. Over time all of the copies that existed begin to deteriorate, and the supply becomes very limited, while the demand from nostalgia rises. People always saw the value in the item, but never its rarity.
Industries like crypto will never have a "declining rarity" value based on the fact that they do not deteriorate (can be lost). But they have still yet to have their value noticed by the mainstream. Their price goes up in value, the more people know what it is!
There are some serious growth opportunities. DNotes is up 35% so far in the last 24 hours. It is one such illustration of the possibilities as an investment vehicle. Our goal is to create value BEHIND the currency, so to provide a floor value for reliable appreciation - something missing in the rest of the industry where only the high is valued, and not so much a means to create a floor value.

CT: What do you have in mind for the future of DNotes and your other crypto initiatives?
AY: It is estimated that by the year 2020, over five billion smart phones will be in use, and there are 2.5 billion people worldwide today commonly referred to as the unbanked, for not having a bank account or serviced by a bank. I am absolutely convinced that a stable digital currency — with reliable long-term appreciation, in partnership with international charity organizations and the United Nations — will soon have a viable option within our reach.
“DNotes will be known as the currency with a purpose.”
With two simple cell phones, or computers with an Internet connection, one can be set up to send and receive funds and conduct global commerce, thereby solving the problems of the unbanked. This alone has been my inspiration to work long and hard to position DNotes as a large-scale global digital currency that can take full advantage all the superior features of digital currency and blockchain technology.
A lot of things in this interview with Alan Yong showed much more than lip-service to being socially responsible. And I'm seeing the attitude of respect and helpfulness on this thread, so feel certain that people welcomed in by the CryptoMoms community will feel just as welcome on here. But what really had an impact on me, and has had me thinking about solutions all night, was Alan's insightful comments about the role that DNotes can play in providing developing nations with a level economic playing field. I live in Cambodia, which has a very strong rural population and is home to many of the worlds unbanked. https://www.cambodiadaily.com/archives/world-bank-report-says-few-cambodians-using-bank-accounts-46844/The official currency in Cambodia is called the Riel and 4,000 of them buys a US Dollar. Possibly because the US Dollar is used along side the Riel it has remained relatively stable. But like many developing nations, this stability is not the same as confidence. I understand people in developed nations showing concern about the security of new and innovative investments like cryptocurrencies. They're considering swapping something of apparent certainty, with something still being tested by time. But the story is different for locals in developing nations, dependant on a currency that could be suddenly devalued by a bad decision at a level of government far beyond their control. I imagine for them, cryptocurrencies might look more reliable than their current options. But again, unlike people in developed nations who can risk what they can afford to lose, the people in developing nations who've been left behind by their country's financial systems have nothing spare to lose. This is why I have a new found hope in Alan Yong's perspective. It isn't about how much DNotes might be worth in the short term, it is about setting a realistic floor to the value of the currency by linking it to DNotes Global Inc. For these people, not losing everything, and having something secure to trade is of much more value, than an opportunity to make quick cash on a short-term investment. There is so much more to think about that won't fit into this comment. But I'm hopeful that the reduced technical hurdles and electricity costs of Proof of Stake will also open the doors to those with the least to lose.

Thank you very much Tim, that was an excellent post from which I can tell a significant amount of research has gone into the workings in and behind what we are trying to achieve. I have a lot of respect for the effort you have put into your first post. Your points made regarding social responsibility are well made, and they definitely resonate with our team. We have written in our forum a lot about currency collapse and the effects on local citizens' and the business they engage in. Venezuela and Greece are two countries that have struggled in recent times. Greece had an issue with fiscal responsibility because it became their only tool to manipulate their short-term economic 'well-being', along with banking system crash, meanwhile Venezuela attempted to nationalize everything and impose socialism v100.0 but that just resulted in complete failure and currency crash - not bad for a nation rich in oil, enjoying a year-round growing season, temperate climate, and some of the world's most desirable tourist locations... The point is, cryptocurrency is the first opportunity that everyday people who have no political power -or nous- have had in a long time to make financial decisions for themselves again. They can expose themselves to the risk they want to be exposed to, and choose to be absent from the risk exposure of bureaucratic decision makers. In the developed world this may be the difference between short-term unemployment, or whether you end up on food stamps, but in Venezuela that is the difference between life and death, or eating your house pets to survive. DNotes Global will play a significant role in alleviating this stress for those who want to participate in a network not run by their local bureaucrats that have proven themselves inept rulers. This role will form a central component of our business. The technical hurdles that you have spoken of will also markedly improve the ability for people in developing nations to participate on less-powerful computers without ceding 'technological imperialism' to those in the developed world who can afford more powerful machines. Making our system as simple as possible is our main goal, because we want everybody in the world to be able to participate as though they intuitively knew what to do. Great post.

Great post Tim! Just curious, are you new to DNotes, the forum, or both?
Thanks Chase, all of the above, and I'll add one more; DNotes is my first cryptocurrency. I've been watching ever since Bitcoin hit the scene. At first I thought it was ingenious, but too dependent on perceived value. Then I lost some confidence when Mt Gox went down. I've also come to believe that due to Bitcoin's momentum and market dominance, they're unlikely to fix something if it isn't broken, even though it is a bit broken. The shift towards centralised mining; the limited transactions per second related to block size; and a few other things make me feel like it will never have the capacity to fulfil the role of a worldwide day-to-day currency. Bitcoin is a prototype that was brilliantly conceived with much forethought, making it so robust that it survived the prototype stage and achieved mainstream success. But it is still a prototype and while I believe it is here for good, I don't see it as the final, most popular implementation, to become the new financial medium of daily use. DNotes fascinates me because by planning 2.0 while the current version is functioning and selling really well, I'm confident that there will be further iterations and improvements. Add this to a real-world floor price, and a commitment to gain wide spread use through education and inclusive culture, and I see true potential for broad acceptance into the far future.

I think you put your finger right on it there, with your comment on 'choice'. Everyone values freedom and will fight hard to protect it. But what is freedom without choice? If you're born into a country, you can choose to learn a new language, but if a passport costs more than five years of your surplus income, you can never leave. Hard to consider that freedom. If you have to earn and spend in your birth-country's currency even though it is unstable, that's not really freedom either. I'm seeing the day come where 'currency choice' will be seen as just as much a human right as freedom of travel. But until a team like DNotes develops a viable option, people won't even recognise the freedom that they're missing.

Great post.
Thanks TeeGee. The PoS is a great early hurdle to get past. But I can see many others looming in the future. Hurdles shared by all cryptocurrencies. I also see how having clear goals will help save DNotes from infinite scope creep. Most cryptocurrencies seem happy to be cutting an identical slice out of the blockchain pie. A few others seem to be trying to become an all-in-one solution for every possible blockchain use. By focusing on usability and accessibility for all, DNotes will still have plenty of challenges to solve. But each step will move the platform forward in the same useful direction. Daily use and face to face trades will require things like partial-confidence before block confirmation; and mesh-style or asynchronous node storage until a user gets Internet access; as well as many other implementation concerns. But all of this is achievable and I'm glad someone's willing to pioneer that work.

We missed having a more pronounced online presence at bitcointalk, however it was necessary in our view to knuckle down and to achieve our stated mission with but a small core team that holds close-knit culture of paramount importance at this crucial stage. Action, and then talk about it. - Something else often lacking among some of our industry peers.

Freedom without choice, or the choice of limited options is not freedom. Whether 'representative' democracy (majority against the few), or choosing the type of currency you are 'allowed' to use. That 'allowed' component between two consenting individuals to accept what they wish for barter is a limitation on freedom, and many have become complacent in this acquiescence of liberty. Cryptocurrency is just as much a hedge against poor government decisions, as it is societal apathy -- or even hostility -- to the concepts of responsibility and freedom. Cryptocurrency is the first tool i've seen that can reverse this dangerous trend. Venezuela is a prime example of the harmful ends this complacency may lead towards.
Wow, I don't think I've even heard anybody discuss the concept of 'scope creep' in any cryptocurrency forum. You're off to a great start - do hang around. You're totally correct regarding industry challenges. The trend we currently see is many adaptations of the wheel, whereupon players go around in circles in their mission to drive around the world. DNotes takes the approach that if the road is properly mapped out, we will notice that we need to get over sea too -- it is not the wheel, but flight that is required. Our plane may take a little longer to design, test, and deploy than everybody else's car, but when their cars can travel them no further, they must watch as we fly on. At that juncture, they can not re-engineer their car into an airplane by taking off their clever iteration of the wheel, and attaching wings in their stead. All the work is in the preparation - "Map out the road ahead, and work out how far the best road may take you. Or just fly. TeeGee, 2017
