So to clarify, Vega rigs need to run Win10 as of the moment?
No one is running on linux?
In THEORY the 17.40 LINUX drivers should work - but I've yet to see anyone post that they actually DO work, much less give the high hashrate out of the blockchain drivers WHEN WORKING CORRECTLY on Win10. I plan to work on a LINUX system sometime this week to see if AMD finally got VEGA support working AT ALL. That would be great. I was actually surprised when Vega did not work on 17.40 even when I loaded the new kernel (and without it) plus the grub stuff.

Little update on the D1800, def the usb speed is terrible on this board, i ran a speed test on the computer for the usb thumb drive, it peaked 6.8MB/s and averaged less than 1MB the majority of the test.
I am in the process of installing all the drivers and such on the old SSD and its no longer pausing and the CPU actually is running at base clock speeds, on the USB version of windows i was seeing only 2.05 on the core, now 2.40-2.55 on the cpu core.
I run USB 3.0 Sandisk stick on smOS Linux on this boards and no issues - blazing fast as far as OS is concerned on 4GB RAM.

There is one single driver that is failing to be found or installed on windows that i have no clue how to locate, im going to try adding more 1080ti's to this board to see how far i can push it before i go and order a new msata ssd for it.

I use WTG often to troubleshoot rigs, but I dont use it as a main OS unless you have a fast CPU and large, fast media. I think WTG is using virtualization to operate and my rigs that are on i3 and i5 performs much better compared to Pentiums and Celerons. Also you need to give a lot of gigabytes on your media to fully "virtualize" itself -- those are my observations. Meanwhile, smOS Linux works across the board and doesn't need more than 4GB RAM and a tiny Celeron runs Linux perfectly well - even for my 12/13 mobos.

BTW - don't believe that $5/day out of a Vega mining XMR - though I suppose $4.50 has been pretty close on average the last couple days IF you can get a Win10 system to stay up reliably and don't have power glitches that bork it.
9-)
quintleo - I will be back home tomorrow and my Vegas arrived at my doorsteps. So can I confirm, only W10 works for these with that blockhain drivers. Any other do's and dont's ? Thanks

LOL - I am doing a test rig on Vegas before I sleep with them.... only 4 x GPUs 2 x 64s and 2 x 56s -- my group is planning for a Cryptonight farm. My strategy is going BTC all the way - some may prefer to collect Moneros, etc but in this crazy fast moving world of crypto - you cannot bet/buy/sell against the mighty BTC - the whole crypto eco system is pegged tightly with BTC - the higher BTC goes, the worse it becomes for the other alts because you will cashout in BTCs anyways - you will lose out at the end of day - be it cost of time waiting for confirmations, speculations, BTC-USD pairing, pools and exchange commissions etc. -- a long list of people nipping on your hard earned BTCs. The only other coins I keep for long holding are ETH and LTC for my group. So cut the long story short, I use NH to get BTC back. Yeah they charge a tad too expensive, but hey... I will pay a few sats for someone to remove my headaches and give BTC me upfront for buying my hash everyday - no questions asked.

You might be better off with mining directly to pool with auto BTC exchange or mine direct to bittrex with Automatic sell orders , nicehash has is only profitable for few days every couple of months when there is new coins like ETN .

You might be better off with mining directly to pool with auto BTC exchange or mine direct to bittrex with Automatic sell orders , nicehash has is only profitable for few days every couple of months when there is new coins like ETN . I use Bittrex autosell for BTG only - when its not profitable will switch back to NH. Same for BCC mine to exchange and cash out BTC. Don't get me wrong - I monitor the profitability regularly and will seize the opportunity however a major bulk of the vault is BTC and fiat. In Bittrex auto sell - pay attention to at what rate they sell it for because they can go up to premium sells to be able to sell fast, favoring their advantage. Many pools like zpool and prohashing use pool-features like this at Bittrex -- the point is they will make money both ways. By the time month end (like Phil) ... you see one single dashboard and makes it easy to handle cash needed and BTC retention in the Trezor. For my case, I have to report daily to my group...

do you pay your running cost with the halfs you take away? the ½ accounts are "free" power well ½ the coins. Seems like a bad deal for me this year, but when the mining profits have lean years I am good to go. Account 1 is my garage I keep all the coins 1844 and pay about 400 in power so that is 1444 net so In house I am using about 400/1844 = 22% for power cost this is due to winter power cost is 12.7 cents really 10 cents due to heat savings. the summer power cost is 16.7 cents really 20 cents due to cooling costs. so that 1844 would be -800 or 1044 from the garage and I would sell some gear for the summertime so the garage would be say 1000 - 400 or 600 net but the ½ deals would be ½ which keeps me going. I mostly nicehash simply because it is easy. Note that do a ton of time on the site basically promoting coins and gear. I do not try in any way to max profits. It works for me. As It makes sale of gear very easy.

agreed i think it really boils down to hobby / home mining vs commercial mining and number of rigs involved. for 10 rigs or less one might consider algo switching to maximise profit but i feel 20 rigs above which is totally a different ball game. no point switching as uptime is crucial plus switching too frequently i feel might put strain on hardware. not sure if it holds true but i guess the saying slow and steady has some truth in it, by that i don't mean running stock settings but rather efficiently overclocked settings i will consider NH as well, thanks for the sound advice @citronick.

@philipma1957 @citronick
I am running totally different approach. Rx400/500 locked to ETH dual mining and 70% doing dcr, 30% sia , second coin is turned to Fiat every few months to pay for electricity and since June Bull run there is always surplus that is kept for periods with lower profits, partners are paid in ETH after simple Excel calculation whenever they request. GTX cards locked to ZEC due to it is stability and great potential and running on free electricity from DCR/SC from the RX farm since I already have enough coins to pay for 2 months of electricity. I might start to take electricity into the consideration when DCR/SC ASIC start delivering next year

For someone on citronick's scale it might be alot of money extra from profit switching, the extra might even pay for a full time salary and change to manage rigs/switching. For me I went for ultra low operation cost/maintenance. Farm overseas in a cheap rent/electricity area and I only fly back 2-3 months to troubleshoot any issues. I don't mind being 5-10% off the most profitable coins especially if it use less heat, because stability = profit. Everything runs below 80% of limit. I also don't undervolt till the edge of stability. I got less than 110 cards, mostly 1080ti, some polaris and vega. Really happy with Eth pump since it's my main holding. I develop applications on the ethereum blockchain, so my view is somewhat biased, but hold some eth Also I bought one Vega frontier edition. Arriving this weekend. Let's see if double the ram increases hash rate in any way.

Nicehash is good when altcoin prices are going down (in my opinion). So you don't lose 10% between mining the coin, and selling it on the exchange. Even if you do it automatically you lose. So yeah, nicehash is good. Also good when there are new big coins. Maybe Phil you can put one rig on Sniffdogminer or nemos, just select a few algos like bitcore, phi, hsr, skein, phi, xevan, neoscrypt for example. Profitability seems to be a bit higher on average, and if you do it on zpool, then its the same deal as nicehash - paid in btc - although I dont really like zpool that much.

I am on my secondary account. A great switching program will earn more than the way I mine but I sell off my gear.. And I run it on 70% trip not to stress the gear. So switching will be harder on the gear. Anyone that got gear from me knows it works well I do not want to risk gears health with switching software. I actually earn more with sales then mining. Looks like Bitmain may have a competitor next year, a company called Halong Mining with a 16TH/s SHA256 miner. DragonMint 16T Specifications: – ASIC Type: SHA256 – Hash power: 16 THS – Network: Ethernet port – Miner power consumption: 1205 W ±6% – Chip efficiency: 0.075 J/GHS ±6% – Fans: dual fan variable 6000rpm (100W) – Power Supply: Not included (1600W recommended) At present they say around $1595, shipping March 2018. http://cryptomining-blog.com/9295-new-16-ths-dragonmint-16t-bitcoin-asic-miner-coming-in-2018/Guess the old S9 might get an upgrade then? As ever, be wary, they are as yet unproven, and of course on a pre-order!
