Phil - I finally got my Avalon up and running. I'm pointed at nicehash , I don't like the pool is on west coast and I am east coast.

What sha256 pool do you recommend. ?

@cintronick or anyone else your input is always valued as well !

My S9s and A721s, A741s (hosted at eastside of Canada) are parked at viaBTC.com and Nicehash.com.

Btw,,, east, west, central whatever... I dont think that matters as long as you are in US. You should do a ping test instead, IMHO.

"China" pools like Antpool, f2pool, viaBTC have nodes all over the place using AWS and Alibaba.

and a question  my asus  1080 ti turbo fan is dying  any repair tips?

I know I can simply stick a bgears turbo fan  and problem solved.

i have revived fans using 3 in 1 oil (or any very light oil like sewing machine oil). if you peel the sticker off the backside of the motor you can put a few drops into the exposed bearing and seal it back up. sometimes there is a rubber stopper type of thing you have to pry out.

but usually within a few months i would have to do it again.

I do nicehash.

The weekly payoff saves a lot of tx fees for me as I move coins around a lot

Hi guys,
I'm telling it here because it's in Phil's thread I learnt the most and had help from you guys when I needed.
I'm about to receive a brand new batch of 10x RX570 Asus !
Ordered 6 months ago, they finally shipped them to me. But I don't have enough power to use them.
I don't plan to make and adv for it, but if some of you guys want to expand, there is 10 RXs ready to work in Europe. (worldwide shipping of course)

NB : I don't know if the GPUs are beginning to be again available or if I'm just lucky. But a $2+ perd day per card, they are still a good bet today.

1080 hits almost identical figures, but costs typically 10% or so more for the "same model" card.
+100 core +100 memory seems to be the optimal point for the EVGA SC and Zotac Mini 1080 models, haven't done a lot of fine tuning on the rest of my 1080 collection yet (mostly Gigabytes).
Nah, 1080's do over 550 and that's at 80% tdp (+110 core). Higher at 90%, as halker2010 mentioned above. DSTM's zm miner works better than EWBF.

Again, we shouldn't be debating raw speed. We should be debating speed&efficiency vs price. If you overpay your 1070Ti you're getting a bad deal vs a 1080 and a Vega. nVidia placed the 1070Ti as a short-term "answer" to Vega for gaming needs, mostly. Do your homework as a miner and know what you are paying, and what you'll be getting for that money.

Yes, 1080 cards push higher than 1070 ti cards if you run them at higher power - but they don't push 10% higher and they DO tend to cost about 10% higher even factoring system costs per card and both cards get a LOT less efficient.

In my case, I was looking at them at the MOST EFFICIENT point, where the 1080 has ZERO advantage over the 1070 ti and 5 of either card will fit into my "6 amp draw" builds so I can put 2 rigs on a single standard 15 amp 110 circuit safely.

IF you can get a 1080 for the same as a 1070 ti of the same model, definitely go for it - or if it's CLOSE on price on a sale or some such.

460-470 sol/s on a GTX 1070 ti running at 106 watts +200 core +700 memory - working both of my EVGA SC 1070 ti, the bunch Voskcoin used in his rig in his video, 6 more in a rig I helped build as a consulting job last week, and the Zotac Mini I got today.

1070 has to push a lot harder and runs noticeably less efficiently to get anywhere near that ballpark, but it DOES tend to cost a fair bit less.
I've not done any "most efficient point" testing on my 1070 collection yet, as they're all low enough power that I can run them at higher TDP % to maximise hashrate (they're also all in left-over FAH 3-card rigs at this point).

did you try it with zm miner too ? because i get around 478 - 491 on 1070 with it and 580 on gtx 1080 with 550 memory and 120 cclock tdp 90 %

In my testing DSTM is a mixed bag - tends to be a tossup AT BEST when running 1080 and 1070ti cards near their most efficient point, and is flat out inferior AT ALL POINTS on the Aorus 1080 ti I did my initial testing of it with.

It DOES seem to work better on 1070ti and 1080 cards once you push them above 70% TDP or so.

I have NOT seen consistant 4.7 figures out of it like Voskcoin claims, though I've it hit that on PEAKS of efficiency occasionally in my testing.

I have NOT (yet) tested it on any 1070 model - might get around to doing that today as I'm starting to plan how I'm going to shift cards around as I start conversions of my older 3-card FAH rigs into 5 card riser-based rigs.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

What surprises me is the relative underperformance of 1080's in Neoscrypt... Is there a good reason why they don't hash faster than the 1070's? Is that GDDR5X related? The 1080 Ti's do hash a bit faster, but not a lot, which would confirm my theory...

I think that is a very plausible theory.  I can definitely confirm that it's a better algorithm for a GTX 1060/70 then it is for the GTX 1080/Ti series. If we have any of our rigs pointed at Nicehash it's pretty common to have the 1060s on Neoscrypt and the 1080s on Equihash etc. (using the auto switch feature).

my first rma today of a 1080 ti  the msi aero  is not detected   on 3 different boards.

We had 2 MSI 1080 (non Ti) Aero GPUs arrive defective from the factory in the same order earlier this year (both of them would overheat within a few minutes even with reduced power limits and 100% fan). We also had a MSI Armor 1080 purchased around the same time that was wonky (all sorts of errors on multiple test machines) and got RMAed at the same time. This was when the mining craze was getting ridiculous and I think Quality Control was rushed and really sloppy on that batch from MSI.

I read somewhere that that is the problem with the 1080.
If I find the article, I'll post it.

Edit: Here's the article but it is comparing ETHASH performance. It says:
"We talked to NVIDIA about this and they said it’s because the Ethereum base code fits the GDDR5 latency characteristics better than GDDR5X....."

I just got my replacement gtx980 fans from amazon....

take the fan off the heatsync, and look at the label in the rear.  search the part number, im pretty sure you will find results and it fitting multiple models (such as r-series AMD, and nvidia alike)

This is what I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M4L4V7L

I needed to clip a little plastic tab off mine for mounting, but it fit fine otherwise.  some GFX cards had a screw/mount there.

Hope it helps Wink

Good discussion on 1070/to/1080s here but Im just getting more confused now lol! But really, I think the best point made was that these 3 can be so close in performance, it's all about getting the best deal, so I think that's the stance I'm going to take on building this rig.

Meanwhile, BTC and almost all Alts continue going through the roof. This is really astounding... several times over the past few weeks I have been on the cusp of selling off maybe 10% of my portfolio but then i stopped myself every time and now very glad i did.  It's very hard to make yourself sell in a market like this, but eventually I really need to cuz there is no way this can continue, can it?!?!

A couple of trading nuggets over the last weeks...

- good:  bought into Cardano (ADA) at .02 and it's now at .15 and up almost 200% over past 24 hours!
- bad:   I was on the cusp of buying into IOTA when it was at ~.35 cents just about 2 weeks ago. For some reason, I didn't do it, now kicking myself cuz it's now at $1.50!

BTC just ecplipsed $10k and doesn't appear to be stopping! ETH almost $500, XMR just broke $200... even ETC getting tasty at $32!  And LTC broke $100!  Damn, I again missed that boat... was heavily considering a bit buy-in when it was at $4... this was back when XMR started it's initial rise to $50-$60 and a lot of poeple thought LTC would follow... sure enough it did, which prohibited me from buying in. Oh well. water under the bridge lol.

There is no such thing as a bad profit.

There will always be trades to make every day 24x7 - crypto trading doesn't take breaks.

Got lucky on NEO at 7$.... the rest is history  Grin

I put the Vega rig on hold for awhile, its acting up during driver installation - I may have to redo the whole Win10 install.

Due to the fantastic BTC price, I am consolidating old 290s,370s and 390s back into action for Equihash and Cryptonite at NH.

and this morning I cashed some in at 10900

At this point  take some fucking profit.

@ gabryrox       if you have 3 coins  at coinbase don't sell  10 %  sell   1% often.

3 coins = 32700   1% = 327

I saw the market in the 90's  some of my friends had millions.

I begged them to cash  ¼ and buy 30 US bonds giving 8% interest.   they would still be getting 80 k on every million in bonds they purchased

on guy  the banker   peaked at 39 million in 2000   I could not convince to buy any 30 year bonds.

So maybe I can convince you to sell  some of you coins at 10,500 plus

Even if it is 1% a day for the next 5 days. Grin

Yeah  If I did not sell a single coin  I would have more  then I have, but I got a lot my way with no stress.

on guy  the banker   peaked at 39 million in 2000   I could not convince to buy any 30 year bonds.

So maybe I can convince you to sell  some of you coins at 10,500 plus

Even if it is 1% a day for the next 5 days. Grin

Yeah  If I did not sell a single coin  I would have more  then I have, but I got a lot my way with no stress.

yeah im selling a bit. i had hoped to wait till the new year as then we will have a nice federal tax credit for that year because we will have a 6 kw (maybe 12, we are debating) solar system put in and it will offset offset the taxes from selling any decent amount of coin. but this price is too good to pass up cashing in a bit.
