There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.
Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction.

Coinex, you are missed.. Im sure many great ideas have been posted here..

A idea to implement is called The Vault.

Save your "BTC" "UNO", and "LTC", guess even them Dogs too for the fans..
Anyhow The vault uses 2 addresses, we can grab from our wallet-qt.. to enable Ultra lock..or the vault..
Also uses email conformation, and as for cold storage fans, even lock for 30 days.

Main lock timer for the vault is 24hrs to complete your withdraw once an email has been confirmed.
addition to a 10 digit pin, use of all this would help enable "The vault" for coinex..

As for traders dont send all your coins to the vault.. cold storage is fine for BTC but other coins are for trading.
Should you use any of this to aid in added security., my job is done here..

In crypto we trust!!

p.s. hope coinex gets back online soon,... as i miss them so much.

For security, your account has been locked. Email acctcomp15@theymos.e4ward.com

Just want to say a couple things: 1) Nobody will ever insure a crypto coin exchange, thats throwing money away. 2) Coinex was repeatedly warned about their troll chat box and hackers ability to inject code through the chat box and access mysql database, but chose to ignore and continue 3) I've never seen such a bullshit operation such as coinex, people cry about Cryptsy, but Crypsty is always there, unhacked. Everytime I was on coinex, I'd see numerous people bitching about support issues not being resolved, deposits not coming through, transfers taking forever, coins stuck in limbo, etc... Yet people say Cryptsy is slow. Hey, at least that shit works and hasnt been hacked.

I seen one comment a while back in this thread, someone saying 'us adults'... you do realize coinex was run by a couple kids, right? It dont matter if you're adults, the people controlling your money barely have pubes on their nuts. Get a clue.

This has all been a hilarious scenario, all the posts, etc... Thanks for the entertainment! lol

I think there is a potential for an entity to insure an exchange. In fact, that may be the best way to do this as an insurer is going to make DAMN well sure that the security on any exchange it covers is as tight as possible.

ok all you people who say coinex is a scam thank you, but stop posting the same thing over and over, leave the site and dont come back!
by coming back all the time means you are still interested in the site and are lying to everyone.
i have always been paid by coinex and it has always been quick (well as quick as the coin block speed allows)
so the site is down, wow that means a scam for sure! hahaha many site that have been around for years and have proved themselves time and time again, are still around and paying!
sites need to close sometimes as some backend updates cannot happen when it is active!

some times servers break down woah scam again!
your local internet goes down woah the whole internet is a scam!
blah blah blah blah that is surely a scam!
we were informed that the webmasters, brothers, girlsfriends, aunties, daughters, friends, cat went to the vet...again a scam!

every site there is at least 1 person who screams scam for one reason or another.

i have had no problems with this site neither have many other members, these people screaming scam have probably entered the wrong details for their coin address or have done something else wrong, is that the wm fault?

now children just wait and see, please stop crying and go to mummy and ask for a hug.......do you feel better now?

i expect a lot of badly behaved children complaining about my comments, all the children will be doing is proving to everyone just how immature the child is.

oh yes please call e names and swear a lot to show us all that you have a very limited vocabulary as you have not grown up yet

to the webmaster ignore those bad children their are adults here who have patience and understanding
keep up the good work and +1 to finding some good security for the site Smiley

If you lost money on Coinex its YOUR fault.  The ONLY safe storage system is your home computer with a quick USB back up or a paper wallet if you have sizable stash.  Why would anyone leave coins on ANY exchange?  Mt Gox?  Poloniex? Coinex,  [Insert name of next one here]?.  Its coming... it will happen and everyone will run around say [Insert name of next one here] is a scam.  In reality it takes lots of sheep, yes sheep (followers) to pull off this type of stunt... It doesn't take hackers... it takes "stoopid"....

Yes its stupid to keep all your money online, but you cant blame people who got orders stuck for a long time and nobody did anything to solve it. Got couple stuck sellorders in coinex. Didnt loose much, but still.
I have never see such shitty customer service that coinex had.

People complain about cryptsy, but atleast they will never just close the site and took all money.I dont like craptsy but its still best place to be now.Hope someday there will be a place for altcoins that is as good as bitstamp is.

Well  just do some homework on Craptsy.  They are an illegal exchange.  They do not have a License by the state of Florida to do what they are doing.  They will be the next one to fall.  They are also in violation of their federal MSB federal registration AND they are not licensed buy the CFTC like they should be.
Florida Violation >  No money service business License.
FinCEN Violation > No KYC or AML compliance.
CFTC > No registration.

If you have money on Craptsy, it will be gone when feds take it down.

###EDIT > Coinex did its best to hide its identity, all VPN, no address, no public registration. NO ACCOUNTABILITY.

Just trying to understand but how can they violate those if they don't handle fiat?

Federal FinCEN rules for example were written to cover: grocery store coupons, money orders, checks, tokens, foreign currency, stored value cards etc.  They did everything they could to cover "currency like" products.  THIS INCLUDES SPECIFIC RULES ISSUED CONCERNING BITCOIN AND PROGENY. They have gone out of their way to obtain jurisdiction.  Florida copied federal rules.  CFTC deals with many non-fiat instruments such as Options, Wheat Futures, Index Futures non-spot currency trading, margin trading etc... Their days are numbered....

AIUI, this is only when Bitcoin (or other "virtual currency") is converted to/from "real currency". See http://fincen.gov/statutes_regs/guidance/html/FIN-2013-G001.html . Do you have something you can link to that says otherwise?

Is Bitcoin a commodity?

Even if it is, does Cryptsy deal with any non-spot trading, options trading, or trading on margin? What law gives CFTC jurisdiction over Bitcoin?

Well, I appreciate the update.  But that does little to console, as my hundreds of VTC's have now vanished, and right during the midst of a price surge after sitting stagnant for weeks.

Ha.  Oh effin' well.

Do we have any tentative ETA on when we can possibly expect to get our coins back?  Or does anyone from the last 'hacking' fiasco remember how long it took to get their stuff back?

If they are having a hard time raising funds to get back up and running they could do it 50% pay back and then give all those that lost coins a free NO cost or 50% off all the trades and mining fees for 6 months or a year as a group and then charge NEW people to the site the regular fees.  The one thing they need to do is make it secure. They should have someone (maybe a contractor) that does nothing but work on the security.

There are plenty of ways they can work it out so that they don't go dark.
