How are folks pulling out? Didn't they prepay their orders?
Yes, all orders are prepayed. I mentioned to this person that pulling out now is quite damaging to us, but he insisted he had no other choice. I'm not going to hold someones money to ransom. But yeah, horrible timing. So... who wants them? Perhaps auctioning them and only pay out (refund) what you get, up to what a person paid (beyond that, you get). It doesn't seem fair that you (and to an extent us) are penalized for someones withdrawal. (And I know there are valid reasons here, not judging). It just seems the risk should be shared to a point.

I must ask, are there any blinking lights on the boards? Yes, i believe there are emerald green lights on there ... i'll double check. Bright red boards, emerald green blinking lights, talk of gold heat sinks. I'm sensing a theme here... I hope Santa Barntech will bring us what we wished for.

hi barntech, so, let say BF released new chips that aren't compatible with the current design of the PCB so you have to create a new one. would it be still compatible with the miniplane? i meant tandem using miniplane with current design. say i bought two board of current design and maybe later there will be new design and i bought 2 of them and using the old miniplane. is it possible? i'm asking because based on your philosophy, nothing wasted.. right? anyway, planning to buy 2 boards (i get the miniplane free, right?) by end of october so i guess i will be in 2nd batch. one more thing, could i just send you the money using moneygram or western union? -- anomalies. jkt, id.

You are speculating. If Bitfury's next chip design is not compatible with the chained design of the existing chips, then it's not going to work chips/cards/minit planes etc. How about wait until Bitfury actually announce a new chip design before continuing with this type of discussion? Bitfury's next gen chip may have absolutely nothing in common with their current chips except in name only.

It's not entirely unreasonable. He wants to know if he will be able to upgrade his existing miner with new daughterboards. It's quite possible this could be the case if Bitfury uses the same hardware interface (pinouts), even if the chips are designed to work completely different. You are of course right that there cannot be any guarantee of this at this time unless Bitfury himself commits to a future interface.

Ok,I went ahead and made my cables, mostly from old PSU's cables & case fans that came with male & female "splitter" molex's Took the "female" end from an old case fan & used butt connectors with heatshrink & snake sleeveing (my solder station died last week) to connect a "male" that will go to my dvd rom/harddrive & added a dual male cable from old PSU to power 2 Drillbit boards.I figured that since 12 volt is not totaly/absolutely/positively ruled out yet,it would be safer to assume these boards MAY need it for whatever reason.I made sure to match wire for wire (mainly the grounds,12 volt & 5 volt),just in case the grounds are in some way proprietary to each voltage I do have a miniplane coming with my order....but I'm still not sure on my layout of PSU to miners, since I MAY get my Avalon/Klondike's soon too & may power all miners off 1 PSU Bring em on Barntech,I'm ready

You are of course right that there cannot be any guarantee of this at this time unless Bitfury himself commits to a future interface. Are the BFL Monarch chips compatible with 1st gen BFL products? That's the first of the 2nd. generation announcements so far that I have seen. The answer of course is a resounding no. BFL have gone down the path of reduced chip count, with a lot more GH/s. If it were me designing asic chips, my 2nd gen would be a drop in replacement for the 1st gen if my target market was the DIY board designers, that way you get the boards out there as fast a possible. The main thing to remember, is chips designers learn from their 1st gen efforts, and could easily come up with a better way of doing things that breaks compatibility with their past offerings. There is no reason to maintain compatibility if you have found a better way of doing something, just for the sake of keeping the same pcb designs.

It's interesting that a lot of people are saying that, which makes me wonder, who are the people placing orders for Monarchs, why are they not aware of BFL's enormous production delays on every ASIC product? The time delay between payment, and starting hashing, is the most critical think in ASIC mining, those that do badly at that, seldom get repeat business.

Not all miners visit these forums or reddit where most of the vitriol over BFL manifested. BFL's "looks" (external hardware design and website) appeal to many without the first hand knowledge many of us have had in previous dealings with them. Also many of those same people have much more $€£¥ than sense and don't spend the time to research the subject. They just see a potential money tree.

The other group unaware of BFL's infamous reputation are the newbs. There are hundreds just finding out about bitcoin every week and wanting in on the game. Many place orders before doing much if any research. That's BFL's market place. The new and uneducated.

Hey. So yeah, people have already said it, it really will depend on what the specs on the new chip are. If it is possible to make new boards that will still be compatible with the current miniplanes, we will. The main factor will be the power consumption of the chips. If they are significantly higher in GH/s and power consumption, then the current miniplanes wont work. Speculation at this point. We'll see what they come up with. There are lots of other chip developers out there now so soon there will be a nice selection of other chips for future projects. At this point we still haven't decided what we will focus our attentions on for the next one, but there are a few that are looking appealing. Stay tuned. Oh and yes i guess you could use moneygram or western union. Bank wire is also possible. BTC is much preferred. Barntech

Hows the firmware going barntech?
Firmware is still happening. We have all hands on deck for this. Its the last hurdle before we go to production. Well, that and actually getting the chips, which really should happen this week, as should the firmware. The guys are feeling confident that it will be ready really soon. From there we are all set to go into production To further update you guys on what i've been up to for the last little while (other than chatting with all of you and chasing postage payments ... still quite a few outstanding btw), i have found us a new PCB manufacture factory and a new assembly house that will turn things around much faster. It will cost a bit more, but worth it to get these things happening quicker. Also want you guys to know that i have been working on backup plans, on the off chance that the firmware stretches out longer than we can afford. I don't believe this will happen, but want you to know that we will be covered either way. Almost there guys. This has been an epic project and a pleasure to see come together. Final charge. I'm very excited to see this almost at completion. I greatly look forwards to the day i send the last package and retreat back to my miner heated room to sleep for one week straight! Barntech
