eligius is taking votes on new reward method

Quote
There is presently no planned date or ETA for this change: it may happen next week, next month, or never.

Summaries:
Pay Per Last N Shares
Equalized Shared Maximum Pay Per Share
Proportional / Pay Per Share
Capped Pay Per Share with Backpay
Capped Pay Per Share with Equalized Backpay

See also: Real-world example graphs for most payout methods

this could work out nicely for the hoppers:

EDIT:
aw feldercarb! I thought this was referring to proportional / pay per share option like deepbit has. It's just another concoction of confusing calculations. Vote withdrawn. Do what you want eligius, I hate you even as a backup.

Hi guys i have bitHopper working okay but the pool config has me confused.

I prefer faster pools and do I need many pools or just a few what is best.

--Thanks

Slippy

If you are using the latest version of c00ws bitHopper then you do not need to edit the pool.cfg only the user.cfg. Generally it's best to have as many pools as possible that will work and be most efficient. The pools I have mining are:

BTCPool24
bitcoinmoney.com
bitminersunion
mtred
ozco.in
polmine.pl
rfcpool
triplemining
bloodyspool

and for backup pools I currently use:

arsbitcoin
ninjacoin.com

Also there is plenty of information in this 101 page thread to answer just about any question you have.

hell yeah.
this is what i feel after i get bithopper running.

Yeah I posted on their thread about it... I'm currently at -3.56... sigh. I stopped mining on them until it's fixed.

that's only the estimated reward, not the actual reward
estimation algorithms have nothing to do with the actual pay

I'm mining 24/7 there for my 0.05 BTC errr day

Well the problem is they don't show the total shares that you have submitted so I can't be sure that maybe their share count got screwed up. Like you said it's probably nothing to serious, probably just the estimation algorithm that is broken.

Or maybe they are trying the new payout method: STHPFT (Screw The Hoppers, Pay Full Timers) wherein they give bonuses to 24/7 miners and debit hoppers to pay for it. Well, they'll have to send me to BTC collections, I guess.

their forum makes it sound like they arent ready to screw hoppers yet.

they also seem to be having other problems.

they rebooted earlier cause "the programmer needed them too"

all the stats are screwy.. no bitcoin price either.. site is slow

i think it is just new and they broke something..

still I will wait until things get a bit more stable

was there any interest in putting in flowers slicing...seems like it would help with these smaller slow pools

and some of yall come to bloodys or digbitcoin so i can get to 43%

Okay windows install blitz
1. https://github.com/c00w/bitHopper/zipball/master
[unzip to C:\bitHopper view README in WordPad]
2. http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.7.2/python-2.7.2.msi
3. http://pypi.python.org/packages/2.7/T/Twisted/Twisted-11.0.0.winxp32-py2.7.msi
4. http://pypi.python.org/packages/2.7/s/setuptools/setuptools-0.6c11.win32-py2.7.exe (for .egg support)
5. http://pypi.python.org/packages/2.7/z/zope.interface/zope.interface-3.6.4-py2.7-win32.egg
6. http://launchpad.net/pyopenssl/main/0.11/+download/pyOpenSSL-0.11-py2.7-win32.egg

.egg(s) are installed using C:\Python27\Scripts\easy_install.exe
You will have to use  command console aka cmd.exe.

Move pool.cfg.default to pool.cfg and modify it to use your accounts
Run C:\bitHopper\bitHopper.py maybe create shortcut
Direct your miner to localhost:8337 using some username and password.
ie. in MINER.BAT "start /affinity 1 /D"C:\Users\David\Downloads\poclbm_py2exe_20110709" /MIN poclbm.exe assman:password@localhost:8337 -d 0 -v -w 128"
Look at stats and control pool in web browser at localhost:8337/stats

That should take you 30 seconds took me an hour to figure out.

Have not been able to locate bitHopper documentation and arguments not obvious where to look.

Can't get bloody Openssl installed (win7 64bit).  Just gives me the error:

error: Setup script exited with error: Only found improper OpenSSL directories:
['C:\\']

I think Pay Per Last N Share pools could be worth hopping if you hop in when >250% shares are done (or another amount, calculated on statistics).

A sort of inversed hopping.
The chance is big that after >250 shares (or another amount, should be calculated on statistics) the block will be found and because you are paid PPLNS you get full reward for it.

Any thoughts?

nah i think that is a gamblers fallacy. The chance remains the same no matter what share you are on.

think of flipping coins. someone just got 10 heads in a row, Most people would bet on tails next, but the next  flip is still 50/50 even though he got ten heads already.

your looking at the ten heads or >250% and saying he is due for a tails, he could just as easily flip a heads again next, they could just as easily not find a block in another 43%. Got to look at each share as having the same probability, yeah they may have lost a lot of flips but they arent "due" for a win

That seems to be working, thanks Smiley   Do I just need to update pool.cfg and user.cfg when a new git is released for c00w's?

Nope. Did a monte carlo on that (I'll post the results on hoppersden), PPLNS never pays above 1.0 and never pays 1.0 unless you're there the whole round. That isn't to say there aren't strategies though.

What if you were to do what we are doing to slush?  Like as soon as they hit difficulty number of shares we hop on for 10% and then hop off.  Most rounds we get nothing but some rounds we get full payment . . .

I drink it up!
