All-

Please see this draft that we will be posting in a dedicated PR thread regarding our transition to the Proof Of Research wallet around mid October (shortly before our 1 year anniversary):

http://www.gridcoin.us/guides/gridcoinpor.pdf

This guide outlines the major differences between the existing proof of work wallet and PoR wallet.

On a high level, we will be exercising the following actions over the next month (will provide details soon):

* Hard fork required in the classic wallet around Oct 1st 2014 (this ensures higher security during the retirement phase and a diminishing block reward for its last 6 month lifespan)
  for all users and exchanges.
* Release of PoR wallet around 10-10.  Mining in the PoR wallet begins.
* Exchanges stop trading GRC classic
* Exchanges start trading GRC using the PoR wallet
* Coin burning begins - extends on for 6 months
* Coins are exchanged via a dedicated foundation site for Gridcoin PoR coins (at 10* quantity)

It is a very exciting time.

We also started advertising on Bing and have had over 600 clicks into gridcoin.us.

more importantly please update official OP, old info is venomous! Not everyone is able to see what is happening at CCT.

All good news! What will be the new maximum supply of GRC after the fork/update? Capped or uncapped?

Cheers!

Hi

I can't sync gridcoin-qt: no blocksource available.

I wrote the gridcoin.cfg and saved it in the appdata/gridcoin-folder, but when I start qt I get the message: configuration file emptry.

Can somebody help?

edit: I had the issue in already in january. On my PC gridcoin-qt doesn't work, on the laptop it does. Now I hoped with the new version of gridcoin it could work. I have another router and another network-car since then, but it hadn't changed.

Thank you

I tried it with disabled firewall and anti-virus. Does gridcoin use a special port that I have to open on my router? Or can I just open some port that is currently unused and file it in the .conf?

(what I don't understand is why the qt can't read the .conf)

ok ...

I opened port 2999 on my router and wrote it in the .cfg.

I also made rules for my firewall
(both ingoing and ingoing)
- dont block 2999
- dont block gridcoin-qt

Nope.

qt says "config is empty" (while the gridcoin.cfg is really not empty)

I installed gridcoin in the standard-folder: c:\programm files (86x)\gridcoin

my .cfg looks like this

Is it possible there is some kind of port blocking happening on Windows or on the router?

Thank you

It should be .conf rather than .cfg, I think. Your note mentions both. It might be worth rechecking the filename you used on the PC.

Edit: Sorry - I missed the part where you say you have already done that.

coudl you try removing all the nodes, just use the supernode.grodcoin.us

Please also note this:

2014-09-26 11:52:59 Boinc data directory is not in the operating system's default location

move it to the default location or specify the location in your .conf file

Also try using the download blockchain option, this works for me on all occasions

Thank you. I followed your advice, my .conf now looks like this:

Quote
rpcuser=christophbergmann
rpcpassword=XXX
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcport=32760
cpumining=true
server=1
liste=1
addnode=supernode.gridcoin.us
boincappfolder=d:\programme\boinc\
boincdatafolder=d:\speicher\boincdata
UpdatingLeaderboard=false

Note: I defined the folder of boinc + boincdata. Did I do something wrong?

I downloaded the blocks, this worked, but after it I had no sync again. Difference is I am now just 12 weeks instead of 49 behind.

Tried it again. Deleted "rpcport=" from the .conf. Allowed gridcoin to go through the firewall, opened ports 32760 and 9050 in the router.

No.

My debugfile says something strange like this but longer

edit: as I also run bitcoin-qt (not at the moment) and have run dogecoin-qt and also bevore auroracoin-qt and megacoin it definitely has to be a problem with the gridcoin-software in special.

liste=1

boincappfolder=d:\programme\boinc\
boincdatafolder=d:\speicher\boincdata

instead of this try

listen=1

boincappdir=D:\\programme\\boinc\\
boincdatadir=D:\\speicher\\boincdata\\

Hope it works out, this is what I got from CCT, if not try this thread:

yeah, it's working!

I don't know why.

What I did:

- deletet a strange folder in c:/programm files (x86) named boost interprocess (I wondered two days ago wtf this is, and someone on stackexchange advised to delete it if bitcoin qt makes a problem synchronising)
- disabled proxy sock
- disabled map port using UpnP

Now I'm gonna sync and than see if mining will work --

Thanks for the advise. I will first sync my qt and than do everything the guide to cpu mining says. I'm a bit confused about how to configure boinc ...
