Let's get back on track with some constructive discussion, someone asked about the timing of the new algo etc.. based on this link: https://vertcoin.org/pow-algorithm-upgrade-lyra2/ , order of events would be:

"There is still much work to be done before we roll it out. Here is a approximate timeline:

1. Derive appropriate initial memory and cpu levels to roughly match the current level (8/15/2014)
2. Implement the new algo in all the wallets including mobile (10/15/2014)
3. Run final testing on testnet (11/15/2014)
4. Final release to mainnet (11/30/2014)

- These are estimates, we may move faster -"

I hope this helps

so by the end of the year, right? that sounds reasonable. the price might drift downwards over this period, but lets see what we can do to buy some of those up  Wink

I´m not buying... I´m investing Wink

New vote open: https://vertvote.com/

To all:

Yes, a voting is open for 'Subsidy Change'. Please spread the words.  It would be an important change to the coin if the majority vote for 'yes'.

I just voted on this but now the options are different? wtf? They were more comprehensive before. Why do we have to vote again? Now I have to vote 'no' instead of just voting for 'sharkbite subsidy only'. Seems like someone is trying to game the votes.

see here:

I think the majority felt like it wasn't a fair vote, because it wasn't made clear that it would be binding nor how the results would be interpreted, so decided to redo vote as initial simple yes/no, if yes, then I guess we'll vote again for change.

No. There was a big discussion regarding the wording of the original vote.

The new algorithm is very exciting, i wonder if they are taking more steps than just being the only coin to use the new algo to stop future multipools, knowing this dev team i bet they are.

As a VTC bagholder...

Your Devs are fighting the Last War (ASICs, botnets) and losing badly... crushed, no?
Coins like BC are fighting the New War (PoS with massive Multipool, great PR)... and winning.

The problem with PoS coins is that it seems like no one stakes their coins, they just leave them on exchange waiting to sell. This way it takes far less than 51% of total money supply to attack the coin, because you only need 51% of the current supply being staked (I think this is also why they tend to fork a lot). There are serious security problems with PoS, which is why the original (Peercoin) is a mixed PoW/PoS hybrid.

for people like me that are not reddit fanboys....

NEWS:

https://vertcoin.org/pow-algorithm-upgrade-lyra2/
I couldn't disagree more with moving to a new algorithm.  Vertcoin is already ASIC resistant; devs have got spooked into this announcement without evidence that ASIC miners will even be tempted to mine Vertcoin. Memory hardness is a real deterrent, it will always be more profitable for the ASIC miners to point to plain Scrypt coins.   Plus the N factor change will do the job of keeping the proportion of ASIC miners low over time meaning the pressure to change will just not be there.

The real danger is that Vertcoin becomes marginalised and loses even more value as a result of being the only one based on Lyra2.  Why would any other coin adopt it?  The only coin that has ASIC resistance in its mandate is this one.  Changing algo is not something to be taken lightly, it indicates weakness not strength, instability not innovation.

instead of flaming the devs we should all work together and support this coin.
everyone who holds vert and argues here in the thread is an idiot. you are frightening potential investors and the price will go down.

so calm down and support lyra 2. going our own way is good marketing.
Its unique and its vert.

Agree, POS coins are far more vulnerable than POW. VeriCoin was hit badly because of greedy MintPal crooks left online wallet staking.

I first bought VTC for about 150 in May...
Because it was a quality coin with an intelligent community.... WAS.

This is no longer an "intelligent community"...
Any non-zombie comment is now hysterically considered "flaming".

With VTC is down 86% to 25 (more actually, it's even worse... it listed in the 200s)...
(I haven't lost much because I trade in and out constantly)...
But the Devs and community seem to be doubling down on the strategy that got them here...
A poorly designed Scrypt-N coin... wrong N, wrong algo, wrong whatever, doesn't matter...

You guys should be building MultiPools... not fighting them, etc
The fact that BC has a massive MultiPool makes makes them a real contender...
Because they can support their price... and are not totally an the mercy of external forces.

Anybody that tells you...
That a coin is built for the long haul and it's a Long Game... is lying to you.

The Alt Space is a 3 month sprint...
Just go look at those tasty summer 2013 coins... not a home run among them...
And even the winners like LTC and PPC are fading fast.

You bought first in May, Good. There is a lot of people who have been around a lot longer and know a bit more about what constitutes the community ethos than you. You say that it was intelligent in May but has gone downhill now? Thats a Joke. How dare you say that with a straight face? It was precisely around May (when you came on board as you say) that the level of spammers, uninformed individuals, and outright trolls who seem to want to derail the coin came on board and started to muddy the waters with loud, inaccurate, flaming accusations in order to drive an agenda that is detrimental to Vert. This all started with the Vertpay issue which caused a lot of smart people to leave after becoming disgusted with posts exactly like yours.

You have NO IDEA about the strategy that the devs used since the inception and why we are here. The whole algo change debate came up recently, so stop saying that this was planned and the strategy. that is outright false. Vert was on a downward spiral before this even came up as an option. They are trying to think outside the box to stop the leaks.

Vert is exactly trying to build itself for the "long game", and thats why its looking at securing its foundations now, for the future. If you are just interested in 3 months sprints ina coin, then do me, and yourself a favor and sell your remainder vert, and invest in another coin.

What do you think about the 3-day additional maturation period that is being adopted as a result of the recent poll? The strategy/logic being employed there escapes me.

It's not being adopted (yet). There was a lot of heated discussion about how the results were interpreted, and course of action decided was re-vote: first to test if any change should be made, then if yes, to vote on what change. Poll is open for six more days or so, go vote vote vote!

(p.s. I think no changes should be made, given the options on the table)

I always buy my coins in september/october and in november it starts to lift off, peaking in december/january Grin.

So did we already hit bottom? Maybe it starts earlier this year?

PS. I like long term behaviour more than pump and dump; a stable value would leed me to hold and use the coin instead of trading it.
