Its not the latest post in the argument but the one I want to address most, so:
The sha256 algo has become the workhorse of DigiByte I believe, so I think we will be keeping it for the time being. The insurmountable network speed of bitcoin is what many people believe provides its supreme security but with perhaps the imminent introduction of quantum machines that could change. It's not like satoshi had not thought of this, bitcoin was always destined to change with technology. after all that's the beauty of software. DigiByte strives to make this technology available to everyone and our multi-algo approach stops the big boys totally running away with the ball but we are still playing the same game, got a dog in the fight if you like!  Wink

edit: I'll think you will agree, that's better than a dog in your logo!  Grin

The SHA-256 miners (specialized highly concentrated miners) have a 4:1 advantage over GPU miners (those who really make up the widely distributed network) and are the main reason why price is kept so low since 50 SAT is their breakeven.

In theory, as well as in practice, the SHA-256 miners tend towards centralization, and, therefore, contribute not to security but greater network INsecurity and vulnerability as Jared has clearly explained. It's the small guy who helps promote decentralization, real network security, and widely accepted real world use . . . as has also been clearly explained on numerous occasions.

BTW, speed? Cheesy
The trouble I see in your reasoning is that you are perfectly right in the smaller scopes of the area your argument is about, but it seems to fail to see the larger picture. Yes, SHA-256 tends towards centralization. Yes, a mining farm for BTC that contributes 'merely' about 1% towards BTC could in a matter of minutes provide 98 to 99% of the SHA-256 hashrate of DGB. A blockchain security nightmare for SHA-256 on its own. Not to speak of things like the power or influence Chinas government could have over the ASIC algos considering the combined hashrate of the mining farms and ASIC manufacturers based there, both accidentally or if they want/have reason to.

So SHA-256 is insecure and of no use? Better replace the ASIC algos with a CPU or GPU algo? Now, a few months back streaming based gaming got a bit of a news hype. With the CPU/GPU heavy calculations done in server farms anything capable to put a video stream on a screen and sent the controller inputs to the server would be able to play any AAA game in best resolution and quality. Now lets assume lower latency internet and other factors (hardware/electricity costs) makes this mainstream in near future. For example Steam with a low cost Steambox is really big in this. We are talking millions of gamers, hundreds of thousands to millions of GPUs in mostly unified gaming servers, running a unified OS controlled and serviced by remote access. Probably pretty good security against hijacking at least from outside, but still, has the thought that you still need at least somewhat big mining farms running 2 different types of ASICs before you could aim for breaking DGB a certain appeal now?

Additionally and less hypothetically, Jumbley mentioned the ASIC driven BTC hashrate surpasses the combined computing power of the top list of super computers. The same is said about the combined computing power of the server farms run by Google. Non-ASIC algos are usually still somewhat competitively mineable by CPU. Now taking over all of Googles servers should be quite impossible and why should Google combine all its resources to perform a hit on DGB? But like with BTC the same applies to DGB. Is it better to rely on 'They possibly could do it but why should they do it?' or aim for 'They can't do it even if they really want to'?

So my conclusion on the matter is: While SHA-256 on its own is indeed increasingly insecure it nonetheless hardens DGB against certain attack angles and in combination with the 4 other algos its making DGB one of, if not even the best, shielded coin/block chain. Is it really a good idea to risk this over profitability quarrels in between the algo/hardware types?

That’s a very well reasoned post , profitability should not be our highest concern although DigiByte clearly has massive potential in this area. We are attracting thousands of gamers and our developers are now in the throes of turning the gaming wallet into full nodes, security is clearly our developers #1 priority and DigiByte is destined to be in a league of its own surpassing anything else out there and we will achieve this together and it is not illegal to have fun doing it!

Perhaps this is the reason..

An issue with a gaming wallet is hardly the reason for the low price. It is baffling, though. It's been chugging away for 2 years now with stead support from both Dev and community and can't seem to break out and match the other coins that have skyrocketed.

Maybe this is just a "blue-collar" coin that people have to see for utility rather than speculation and "romance" like some other coins.

Enough!!

I don't have much time available but I'm going to STFU a bunch, right now since I did quickly read a few pages.
Oh, hi, apparently I never say hello and just get to the yelling part but that's what I do... Smiley

That said... this used to be such a nice place to hang out, now it looks like a soap opera in text form where I don't even want to say anything.
If there are 1 on 1 quarrels, they should be taken off the public forum and into a more private setting; like PM's or via Skype or whatever.
No need to have marital arguments in front of the guests so to say... not really being a good host and makes everyone uncomfortable.
In restaurants, I remember a guy who got yelled at by his dad for waiting 3 hours to serve guests; 3 years after, he was out of business and moved out to another country.
Then you get trolls to come by and just cause shit because they smell blood and get off on it... I take they cannot be banned from posting on threads so it's something to be aware of.
Don't fuel them, it's just making matters worst for everyone; treat them like little infants because they likely are jealous, bitter, envious little brats.
There people are paid to fuck with you, this entire community and what it stands for... so be real careful who you turn into an enemy because someone likely wants you to.
It's happening all over the world, let's not let them win here; we know the price is manipulated but it's only temporary, once it starts to move north, it's gonna go north in a hurry.
Jared is a hard working man and is understaffed, cut him some slack will yas, fucking spazoids?  Good, news... I brought WEED!!!  Now fucking relax Smiley
He's yet to really deceive... other than the 6MB block thing but it's business and as a businessman I understand that...
My choice to live in a next-to-heaven place with bandwidth cost but maybe someone will make an Electrum version?

Next!

On the SHA front... when I started mining DGB in 2014, the price was around 10 sats and I had the most hashing power in the network.
It was because of SHA hatred when most people are just haters for the sake for hating something.
Funny how so many hate on SHA mienrs but SHA miners don't hate on anyone?  Same thing in gold mining, there is fraternity between the real miners and the fakes ones hate on the real ones.
Some fucking world we live in, eh?  That's why I'm anti social and don't care about insulting assholes, in a sometimes dramatic way.
You can hate shit just because, without knowing any facts... because the other sheeps all agree... well, a millions SHA haters can't be wrong, right?
Well, I enjoy sleeping on the bed of silver coins bought from my mining SHA256 crypto currencies; cherry on the sundae!
This was the time that SHA was introduced into DGB... there was no one mining!!
I effectively powered nearly 90% of the network for nearly an entire month, the closest other miner had 10 times less and was on Skrypt.
Back then I was getting with 1 S1 what a miner now gets with 1 S7 - I couldn't get why the network had bailed so I went to its rescue.
Right there you can see how much more efficient the network has gotten, look at the hashpower now... much cheaper to buy, lot cooler and easier to operate.
SO then other miners came back in, I went back to Bitcoin mining... that's how you make money in mining!
Do your homework, do a lot of math based on your homework then decide if it's a worthwhile endeavor.
Success is always defined by the following formula: Skill + Sacrifice + + Research + Research Your Research + Smart Investing - If you do neither, you're not worthy of success.
If you want the same results that everyone else gets, move your happy ass to one of those socialist utopias #NorthKorea #Cuba - Let us capitalists make money freely.
You make the most money by not selling your coin to pay for power (pay out of pocket); or have free power  Grin
The SHA mining network in an evergreen project; meaning it is constantly growing in efficiency; like in Gold mining... washplants and heavy equipment are a lot more efficient today than 100 years ago.
The coins which seem to fail the least are SHA coins because you get the imminent miner support; which wasn't the case when I started... people want the safe, secure thing; never risk taking.
However, like in gold mining, there is no dreaming in this business... it's all over this industry like in Gold, people expect to plug in a few miners (dig a hole) and expect to get rich.
Large gold mines in real life will spend millions before seeing any type of return... like they say about mining, it's just a hole you throw money into.
There isn't any other SHA256 coin released since DGB that's been worth mining from the beginning and even there was one, I wouldn't say it.
Tickles me senseless to watch The Block Factory pool, the progress of my investment... it's not reocket science but people a re stupid and take gambles.

Educated risks and outright gambles are two entirely different things.
I don't see why SHA256 is at a disadvantage or at an advantage over others ones... someone who can hack a 256bit encryption can also hack a 512 or even 1064 bit; it's all a matter of skill not coding.

Next!

Anyone who says DGB is a bad investment is a shitty investor, this will become the investment of the decade!!  To me it already is since my total per coin cost was 20 sats; anything above is gravy.
Even as a miner I bought anywhere from 4 sats all the way up to 65 sats, sometimes it's ok to buy coin to help the price go up.
If you would be smart you'd go find a shorter where you could bet against DGB's success of you want it to fail but msot people don't know what shorting is nor what binary options.
Right now of course, if you ask me, it's a shitty time to be mining DGB but I got most my coin because at some point, I made sacrifices.
Pumps can be a double edged sword... one, the crash can hurt to the unsuspecting masses but it also makes them more popular on exchanges, often getting front page mentions.
This gets more notices, more eyes on deck so to say and brings in new investors.

No guts no glory!! =D

Peace out!

PS: I still have my stash, just not in a wallet, found a way to mitigate problems Cool
PPS: Bitcoin took 4-5 years to really catch on and is still an infant... give it some time!!!  DGB is not even 3 years old yet and Gold is over 6,000 years old!  Roll Eyes
