[...]Spreadcoin [...] the number of coins required for a masternode be determined by market forces: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=715435.msg10076444#msg10076444

I think the idea itself is brilliant (hey, I LOVE self-regulating systems), but it's not a good idea for Darkcoin.

Right now, an institution (Government, some billionaire, some agency) can buy whatever they want number of Masternodes and there are still "free" Masternodes owned by you and me to secure the anonymity.

If driven by market-force, they could buy-out EVERYONE else and get 100% control.

Great point. Just to add some numbers to it...

As an example, assume you have a pool of 1000 masternodes.

DRK Method: Evil rich entity would have to buy 4000 nodes (nearly impossible) to control 80% of the network.

Spread Method: Evil rich entity would have to buy 800 nodes and maintain a larger balance than 800 current owners to kick them out. Rich entity would have no problem keeping a high balance compared to Joe Normal.

Spread method is great for pumping the price, but it is plain which of these methods is a better security model.

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

I think the idea itself is brilliant (hey, I LOVE self-regulating systems)

3-Com sells routers. I buy a router for $100 and put it online. Someone 3000 miles away decides to pay $110 for their router and immediately takes mine offline.

There's nothing 'self regulating' about that it's just destructive.

Darkcoin nodes are already traded and valued on the open market. That valuation is constantly changing. All your doing by making the coin threshold dynamic is creating product ambiguity from a market perspective and network volatility from a technical perspective.

That's a shame to hear (no pun intended). I feel like a broken record but again, please eleborate.

Darkcoin is only progressing at the moment in terms of development, the dev team, marketing and (future) adoption. Besides that the price has been pretty solid too.

A New Darkcoin Charity

I have the great pleasure of announcing the creation of a new charity: The Rava World Conservation.

I would like to thank the Darkcoin development team for making this possible by creating such a wonderful coin. I would also like to thank the people involved in areas other than core development. I see their true passion and commitment every day.

The Rava World Conservation will operate Darkcoin masternodes. The charity will assign and distribute proceeds of these nodes to every child that is born.

Y nodes will assign Darkcoin (DRK) to each child. This coin will then be placed into X nodes which serve to increase the original allocated amount over time, ensuring that each person will have a reliable and sustainable source of Darkcoin to use during the course of their life.

Z nodes will serve to protect the habitats we live in as well as the life that shares them with us.

One day every single person on Earth will own Darkcoin, that is simple math.

The white paper can be found in the details section of the website. Individual percentages are variable to allow for increased allocation to specific growth areas (classes of nodes) if this is ever deemed necessary for sustainable development.

Please let me know if you find any mistakes and I will strive to correct them promptly. If you have any questions you can email me at raphael@ravawc.org or send a letter to my attention at the charity mailing address. We welcome your support and it will be a pleasure to answer you in kind.

Thank you to all who have made this possible. I would also like to send a special thanks to the private member from the Darkcoin community who helped with the website. Sometimes the silent heroes make as great a mark as those who howl.

Let there be Darkcoin!

That's great, Congratulations!

As I have said before, ideas like yours are very important for Darkcoin.

There's a wrong vision of Darkcoin, being spread by some ill-intentioned people who try to distort reality, accusing DRK to be the coin of criminals... It's Darkcoin's image being tainted by dishonest people with an agenda. DRK is not the evil coin. DRK's primary focus is on protecting privacy, something extremely necessary, especially these days.

You are an example that the Darkcoin community is working hard and honestly for the benefit of all, and this is what matters.

Success!

Everyone loves Batman, and he's the "dark knight", and he's not selling drugs in a dark alley.

Its what you make of the product/service that counts.

Sure. A much better idea, instead of changing the name, is working on DRK's public image: instead of "glorifying" darkmarkets and drugdealers we (the Foundation and the Community) should make periodical campaigns (humanitarian, bla, bla bla...). Image matters a lot more than the name.

I liked a suggestion some pages ago of making aliases, like, funding the young Malala with some MalalaFundWallet (powered by Darkcoin).

Campaigns and propaganda are very healthy for the image...

In the end the benefits Darkcoin bring are real, anyway...

(note that even if we should not "glorify" the DarkMarkets, we must respect them: we just will not make much ado or big show-offs about them...)

I thought the reward you're getting depending on the number of masternodes already took care of all that.

@MyFarm

You may know my view on SPR: it is a clone of DRK and so any work done for SPR can be used by DRK.  It is behind DRK, has fewer devs, well one actually, and is basically a project I suggested 7 months ago - A second tier mainnet R&D project for DRK, something that won't have value because it is not the brand leader.

Solo mining is attractive, but really? Is that it?

I have found some problems that will be encountered when masternodes get introduced and while you called them FUD, they were sufficiently significant issues for me to keep away.

But hey, its crypto. best of luck; and just a friendly reminder - this is the DRK thread.

I've updated a wallet to latest available Onyx v3 (0.10.17.24). Wallet itself think that he is "v0.10.17.24-gee8174a-beta".  Cheesy

That PC has two GPUs which are mining DRK in solo. I found after couple of hours after wallet upgrade that GPUs blowing away cold air. I've connected to that PC and found that the wallet is running and synchronized, but cgminer can't connect to it. After restart of the wallet mining resumed. WTF? On prevoius version of the wallet mining lasted for weeks without any wallet-related interrupts!

The variable you're forgetting here is the desire of Darkcoin holders to make a profit.  Both Spreadcoin and Darkcoin are at the mercy of the almighty deep pocket government agency as the more the price of the coin goes up, the greater temptation to sell your masternode coins.  Everyone has a price.

I know your view was wanting to buy 5 figures of the coin from me Wink

I know what thread I'm in, but thanks.  The only reason I'm discussing this here is because people are discussing a proposed feature in a, "second tier mainnet project" coin that MAY be better than what DRK has implemented (I don't know for sure yet, thus the discussion).  Yes, I have a little BTC into Spreadcoin, but I have a hell of a lot more in DRK.  If you think I'm not loyal to DRK and working to ensure that it is successful, you're kidding yourself.  It is vitally important that this community remain open to discussion of ways Darkcoin will need to adapt in the coming years instead of getting defensive and saying, "Don't discuss that here, it's about another coin".  If discussing features of another coin that may impact (and potentially improve) DRK causes duress amongst the community, then this is not a strong community.

Just because somebody asks if they can buy some coins doesn't mean they want to buy some coins.  They might be testing the water.

Anyway..SPR talk to SPR thread and DRK talk here.  Good luck with things.

Does anyone else have issues with keeping their MN online?  I have to issue a masternode start several times a day.  Just trying to see if it's just me or a common thing lately.

Nope, mine are very stable with the latest release. I think I've had to restart one daemon once since v24.

More likely an issue with your VPS provider or your own setup - double and triple check your local/remote darkcoin.conf files.

It must be just a display issue on Elberth's site..... it wasn't showing....now it is even without a restart.

Thanks for the answer!!  =)

No restart in one month for 8 MN.
