And the hashrate is still way up. Which is getting annoying..
You know why the hash rate is so high, despite the fact that mining DRK isn't exactly the most profitable thing to be doing right now, nor has been in the past? Because... there are people out there with a clue! Amazes me that there are so many actually. But what the hell, I don't mind some other people getting rich too. I am curious how many people out there are mining DRK at a loss when they would be better off buying the coins outright. Don't get me wrong, I see the bigger picture, but I'd end up with more coins through purchasing than mining (and that happens to be the case for me). You are not seeing the full picture. To many many people in Europe it's more profitable to mine DRK than any scrypt once you account for electricity. Also to many people who mining DRK is a little bit less profitable than mining scrypt, they just prefer to earn maybe 5% less but keep their rooms at an acceptable temperature. And if you think they could mine other more profitable X11, probably most people don't want the daily dealing with exchange, it's more convenient to directly mine DRK and forget about your rigs. So once you add those 3 things, electricity cost, heat and stability of DRK, it makes a lot of sense to have so many people mining it instead of anything else.

I am sure I have read somewhere that you need the passphrase in ""s, eg. ./darkcoind masternode start "passphrase" - but I am old and my memory sometimes fails me. I'll be having my 1st go at a masternode later today, hours of baffled incomprehension to look forward to! Yah, I always use quotes, which are usually needed if you use a lot of weird characters... Hope someone can clarify if something is missing here for me. I'll see it tomorrow if anyone can, got to go to bed now Start darkcoind on remote machine. On your local machine specify the IP at launch with -masternodeaddr=YOUR_SERVER_IP Unlock your local machine wallet with your passphrase. On your local machine, ./darkcoind masternode start Something really seems to be missing because my remote server does not see my local wallet. I'm assuming the last line above should read "on your server, ./darkcoind masternode start "passphrase" but since it was written that way, I tried starting the masternode on my local machine, and it still didn't connect to my server. Could my problem be that I'm behind a router? Maybe that's what I'll try tomorrow, plugging directly into my modem, maybe that will work?

My personal translation of this is: "I have though of a bunch of cool new stuff to implement. You're private space yachts will have to wait a bit longer, but they'll be bigger private space yachts." My senility is getting worse, or someone is deleting posts at a rapid rate, the thread pagecount keeps dropping.

New vote update From the previous vote (what will be the market cap of Darkcoin at the end of 2014), I interpreted the figures and guessed the value of each coin will be around $45 to $55 based on a market cap of ~$250m and around 4.8m coins in circulation (another guess). Results in the thread under valuation. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=579976.msg6335710#msg6335710

It sounds like a perfect route! It's good to go open source as soon as possible, and it's best to have someone to run an audit on it. It publicly shows it's secure and DarkNets (or any sort of merchant) can start accepting DRK. To anyone worried about open source and shitcoins cloning it and profiting, they will, but nothing wrong with that, shitcoins are for the fun of the short term, pump and dump, profit and buy more DRK. Darkcoin is not Darksend, Darkcoin is a lot of more, and Darksend is just one of the features, and as soon as it's finished Evan will move on to "the next" feature, so unless shitcoins can clone Evan we have nothing to worry about

Please enlighten me. How would masternode wallet/server be compromised if ssh ports are shut, and json ports are closed to external IPs?

You question is about security, I don't thinks this is the best place to talk about it (maybe darkcointalk.org?). That said, even if somehow it gets compromised, you masternode doesn't have to hold the 1k DRKs, so basically you are not risking anything.

You wallet is (as far as anyone knows or is letting on) computationally unfeasable to "hack" as long as it has a strong passphrase. The server is as vulnerable to DDOS attacks as the infrastructure it's sat on. Keep all unneeded ports closed, run no other services, use strong unique passwords, enable ssh only from your own IP, usual stuff, you should be fine. edit: User selectable ssh port for the deamon would be good.

Looks very reasonable. This allows time for the coin to get more mainstream as new features (masternode payments, raising of the DarkSend limit, etc.) are marketed -- as well as allows time to harden the code thus reducing the chances of exploits found after it's open sourced. Maybe this new schedule should be in the first post?

Good news on the development front, yet a small dip on the charts. Are folks not happy with the open source release of DarkSend?
Well we've just had a huge pump and recovered just amazingly well. We're still close to 3x the value we had before this pump with a peak around 4.2x the value before the pump. DarkSend hasn't been open sourced yet though. Here's a little graph to help you understand how Darkcoin price works for people who follow development versus people who only notice darkcoin when they are done with their pump and dump shitcoins. Yep. It's pretty funny how many people out there lack the vision to see longer than a day or a week. They run around like a mob of chickens with their heads cut off, throwing their money in random directions with the faint hope they will become rich. They have the foresight of moles and the attention span of goldfish. They don't care about coins with legitimate futures, unless of course they heard about it in trollbox, in which case they buy at the top and bang their heads on desks when the dump truck buries them in shit. This was me. I paid the price for my lessons. I'm done banging my head though. I've actually written a whole file with all the lessons I've learned. I will be breakeven around 0.0037 in Darkcoin, or 0.0041 if you count a gain I made before the loss. Those prices should be reached again in the next few months. Hopefully sooner. In the meantime I enjoy reading this thread and all the activity. Let's hope I will be one of the smarter ones next time around. Don`t worry everyone who will buy now and hold a bit will gain nice earnings...it`s only a metter of time. If you have the pression it`s not good. Learn the patiency and you`ll be a won men. It didn`t work with all other shitcoins but DRK is true gold.

probably a spike DarkCoin [DRK] Network Difficulty: 1528.3336 || Network Hashrate: 31331.67 Mh/s || Est. Block Reward: 10.56 DRK Extra extra!! DarkWallet releases today! Which I good for us, IMHO. There is a lot of "heat" towards Amir Taaki because of Dark Market. Dark Wallet is not a proven product and I feel it may have been rushed out a little to be ahead of competition. http://www.coindesk.com/hyper-anonymising-bitcoin-service-dark-wallet-launches-today/
