I was thinking about doing an IPO to open up the market to buy DRK for creating master nodes for those investors that have money but not the time, expertise, etc.,?

Flawed thinking?

I pitched this idea 400 pages back Tongue

Although with the "easy-install-one-click-iso-mount" will make it easier for so many and this will prolly not be needed anymore.

What do you mean by IPO? What would you offer and how?

"Hey I have a shitload of money and I want to make more money. I never touched linux and I don't have time to learn, setup and secure a server - do it for me and I'll give you a splash of my wealth".

That was my interpretation though.

basically, yes.

Order depth getting better and better, we might go for another run up soon, especially with RC2 in 2 days.

Those masternodes pop up like mushrooms after rain.

Ugh.  So ac2 joins the ranks of cryptohunter et al on the "too stupid to install ubuntu and my girl peepee hurts" section of the short bus.

Everybody knows about the early issues.  Prove that Evan and his pals (tm) mined all teh coinz or kindly go back under your rock please.

Ring signatures are going to be implemented in V2. I will begin development immediately after I opensource V1.

How do we compete against clones? Can they clone me? I work on this full time. In fact, I've only been at it four months. So far I've implemented DarkSend + X11 + DGW + Masternode payments. Plus, I've agreed to work on this project till at least Jan 2016 full time. So who on earth would invest in a clone?

That is HUGE!! Please also consider IP obfuscation in some release.

Do not give in to these calls for open source. AnonyMint made a great post on the Monero thread about all of this open sourcing. Let there be a big merchant adoption phase first Smiley

I2P support for the masternode will be included AFAIK.

As for opensource, it will be very hard to increase adoption of an anonymous currency if the conversation starts with... "you don't need to see the source, trust me this solution is completely anonymous".

Not entirely untrue but big players(merchants) are watching and they couldn't care less about the open sourcing part of it. Open source is for the fudsters here pushing their own agenda. Keep in mind I am not against open sourcing, but it can be phased roll out down the road.

Before any of the anonymous coins came out, there were mixing services available on TOR. Some of them were scams, a couple were not, but merchants used to encourage using mixing services which were totally not trustworthy at all.

The problem I see with this : one entity controls and manages a large amount of masternodes for those investors ---> centralization.

With the excellent guide by cheaplin + a lot people helping out, I can't see how the willing souls could not set up masternodes.
1h tops for newbie for the first one, then image and max 5min for each next to swap wallet/ip.

Taking into account top walkets being exchanges, that's excellent distribution and getting better day by day.

How do you feel about that?

Sorry you missed the lunch. I was there at the lunch.

I also bought 10,000 darkcoins for 0.25 BTC about 2 weeks after the release.

How do you feel about that?
I feel like you should give away some. You've made a lot of money already.

I agree large holders should give away more. I don't think I'm a big holder, but have given away 1000 DRK already.

I had thought of that...and with investors feeling nervous about handing over so much money to someone they don't really know. Something like this is only really worth doing for a minimum of 200 nodes. Some investors wouldn't want to mess around with passwords to diminish these risks.

Psssh nothing should be given away. That's self defeating.

If people want to help make their money grow and have lots of dark donate to bounties.
Or to people helping promote/working on the coin.

Darkcoin/DarkSend does need to go open source -- it's imperative for it to be taken seriously by big investors and people concerned with security. We need all those eyes on the code to find bugs and vulnerabilities to ultimately strengthen the coin.

Other than those practical reasons, I personally value the open source ethos where information & work are made freely available so it can be hacked, improved upon & taken in different directions. I'm personally invested in Darkcoin, but in the event that someone takes the source, improves on it and creates a superior product which blows Darkcoin out of the water, I'd be happy. The world needs strong anonymous cryptocurrencies to compete with the established financial hierarchy, and keeping a coin's source closed hinders that progress. Darkcoin is just one player, and if it's not participating in the open source ecosystem, it's wasting its potential role in the crypto revolution. I don't want it to be a selfish coin.

Just a thought on masternode security: Is it reasonable to assume that any Amazon EC2 image will have built-in backdoors? I imagine a large percentage of masternodes are running on EC2 instances.

Is it possible to upload your own linux ISO for use on EC2?
