So what the heck happened to the local /remote setup for Masternodes? No longer valid? Pulling my damn hairs... worked flawlessly on testnet, yesterday I flip to main net on 10.8.6 and no longer working (apparently)

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Yes, it is a real shame if this is the case. I probably won't set up a masternode until it is working. |

Can people open their masternode wallet (dat) on their pc while its being used on their masternode as well?
Just to have a constant check on it
I think that can cause some trouble as the other one is already open (I'm assuming you are talking about opening a local copy of wallet.dat), but it is super easy to check balance on the server from your computer with the command line or with something like Putty. Yeah thats what I was wondering. Its ok I just found darkcoind getbalance  Yes, you can also use darkcoind getinfo and one of the outputs is the balance. |

local online encrypted wallet / remote empty wallet setup is still valid. Evan clearly told that local and remote should be online, for the time being.
Cold masternodes are NOT implemented yet.
You can "hide" the node with the money and have the wallet be encrypted, but you can't really take it offline.
The idea of the masternode network is they have to prove they're available for service, so the source node must continue to ping the network.
What you're talking about could be a feature for later on in the future. But I haven't had time to implement something like that yet.

@Chaeplin Is there a way to run multiple darkcoind instances with a single local computer so I could service multiple remote masternodes with one local computer? Thank you. This seems like a key question, from a wallet security point of view. Entering a password to a 1000 DRK wallet on hardware one doesn't physically control -- such as a VPS one has rented for masternode purposes -- may be asking for trouble as one can't control ultimate access to the server. That creates a dilemma for anyone that is contemplating operating two or more masternodes yet has too few local static IP addresses to support them using the local/remote configuration. If what Minotaur26 is asking to do isn't possible, I fear we could see some ill-advised setups with 1000 DRK wallets on rented hardware, snooping by those with physical access, and heartache down the road. |

I have a system that run mainnet and testnet both. I just add another user for testnet. I haven't tested local / remote setup yet. If.... local online encrypted wallet --> ping network remote empty wallet ---> act as Masternode, get in Masternode list with limited local ip(with in nat) + many remote empty wallet might be possible. add user, run darkcoind with following option.. -port=<port> Listen for connections on <port>
-rpcport=<port> Listen for JSON-RPC connections on <port>
I have compile problem on Mac 10.9.3. Qt is fine. Darkcoind is still in problem. Oneday I wil use Macbook Air for local online encrypted wallet, just for wallet. |
