Welcome in the club. Icebucket is so we need only drinks Wink
And YES GhostPlayer is PRO.
Reccomend +101

Cheesy Grin Im in the Masternode Club !!!  Cheesy Grin yay!!

I would like to share the experience with you.

I was set on not going the easy route and opting for a Amazon node, So I downloaded Linux VM for the first time and spent hours just staring at the terminal, not knowing how to open directories even  Undecided

To say that i'm a Linux noob is a gross understatement, Linux Retard is more descriptive of my command line abilities  Cheesy

I was clawing my way through ssh certificates tutorial and spending ridiculous amount of time trying to figure it all out.

I almost lost my pride and went quickly through the Amazon tutorial that seemed to make allot more sense than the blank screen of the terminal. Stuck on something trivial I went to the IRC for help, everybody was happy to answer my linux noob questions. That was really nice to have so many ready to help. Gotta love this community  Kiss

Yidakee (GhostPlayer) offered to help, and god I wished I had just contacted him in the beginning. His hand holding session was so great. He went through everything with me explaining every step and command line. And did not give up on me when I was having my retard moments due to not knowing anything about Linux. I feel like I could set up a node by myself after this spoonfeeding session. And understand it all much better now and confident that my darks are in a dark place  Cool

Highly recommend him if you are going to set up a node and I know that it will safe you allot of frustration, just contacting him in the first place instead doing it like me and scratch your head for hours before seeking help.   Roll Eyes

Toknormal i've put off asking this painful question for some time, but where do you see the total bids/asks? Did you mean that there are 2k asks and 17k bids on mintpal?

Hey, no pain !  Wink

I'm reading them off the Bitcoinwisdom charts which takes it's feed from the Mintpal API and actually gives a far more accurate and responsive picture of the orderbook than the exchange browser interface does....

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/mintpal/drkbtc

In the top right hand quadrant you'll see 4 columns of numbers. The first two are the exact representation of the order book closest to the price. The next two are the summary orders at larger intervals. e.g if it says this in the summary columns:

115   1439
114   1189

...then that means there's a total of 1439 DRK available at or below a price of 0.0115 BTC and 1189 DRK available at or below 0.0114 BTC. You need to read the columns as pairs - i.e. the first two are the price / quantity pair for each order level and columns 3 and 4 are the price / quantity pair for the summary levels.

The numbers below the price point are just exactly the same except for the bids. First two are orders, second two are summaries.

To get an idea of the market depth for a particular trade, you can use the "Estimate Trading" feature from the "Tools" menu. It will tell you how high a particular buy will push the price or how low a particular cashout will take it.

For example, right now the last trade price is 0.01047. But if you wanted to buy 3000 DRK then that "Trade Estimate" thingy will tell you that your average price for that trade will be 0.00116. That gives you an idea of the market liquidity close to the price point and therefore the size of the spread gap which will help you decide how easy it is to get back out or back in if you need to in a hurry.

For the total asks and total bids, I usually just read the top right and bottom right figures from the summary columns, although I'm never quite sure if it's showing absolutely everything or not. You also have cryptcoincharts... http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/v2/pair/drk/btc/mintpal/10-days ...although it almost never agrees with Bitcoinwisdom so I usually ignore it. I've found BCW to be the absolute state of the art in precision and performance.

Hope that helps !

EDIT: That cryptocoincharts page that qwizzie just posted (the first one) is actually quite good. It's more up to date than the cryptocoincharts link I refer to above. I would generally trust his one or Bitcoinwisdom.

Nice! An upward trend is developing. Yesterday's update (and possibly pics of the sweet wallet GUI overhaul) is taking hold. For those that missed it... Bump.

Dev update summary:
-Details of RC4's main feature, Darksend+, have been finalized and released. Over 99% anonymous based on the percentage chance of being exposed by a bad actor.
-RC4 code nearly finished and entering testing in the next few days.
-Code review by Kristov Atlas will soon begin.

A question was asked 2 pages ago, and wasn't answered.  Why can't we keep DarkSend closed source?

When the code is open sourced and everyone can see exactly what is in the code.  No cheating can be done (like hidden blocks to pay out to an address every X blocks, or some such)  This makes it trustworthy.

So why is it closed sourced right now?

Just one look at our recent past shows what chaos would have transpired had a bunch of alt coins implemented DarkSend half assed.  Evan knew exactly what was happening and could make quick decisions as to how long to let the forks try to resolve, and when and how to quickly shut it down.  It seemed like chaos, but really, it was quite controlled and I don't believe anyone was majorly inconvenienced.

Had a bunch of alts been running the unproven software, they would have fallen apart and blamed Darkcoin.  Keeping it closed source until it is completed was the wisest choice Evan made on this entire project.  But when it's completed and proven to work, it has to be open sourced or it will never be adopted as the main anonymity solution to crypto currency.

Evan said a while back that going open sourced is fine... Seeing the code is one thing, successfully implementing it is another thing all together...

Thanks Tok/Qwizzie, for the info. I'll start looking at these values. Also interested to see if it's possible to calculate totals more accurately via the api.

Actually miners are the BACKBONE of the system.......

While true, there isn't a shortage of them and won't be in the forseeable future.  As long as any coin has value, there will be people mining it.

I'm looking at the mining usernames on my pool and 95% of them hang around regardless of current price... That's because they know DRK's real value is intrinsic and the coin hasn't even got started...
