Any marketing should use 'currency' or 'ecash' not 'cryptocurrency.'
The Dogecoin team used 'digital currency' on their Nascar. That's a simple and fair description. Agree. I don't think we should use 'eCash.' That's a thing from 1995. The eWhatever era is over and sounds dated. Digital cash? That's what I was thinking. It still says the same thing as 'eCash' without me thinking I have to dial in to AOL to use it. Or 'DeCash' just thinking out loud bitcash ?

I think contracting the word into bit cash or digicash makes it sound like a new coin. So it the term has to work like this: Q: What is Darkcoin? A: Ecash or A: digital cash or A: The Future!

Please stop bringing up eCash, iCash or whatever variation. These discussions came up months ago when people were trying to rename the coin.
First, all of the "Cash" variations sound incredibly cheesy.
Second, you're tinkering with a new brand that is being built. Taglines, etc. add nothing but confusion to the mix. It's DarkCoin. Just call it that and be happy. If you have subsets of people using cheesy taglines or alternate brands, you're hurting the brand.
Third, even if adopted it will do nothing for "adoption". BitCoin sounded stupid until it didn't.
Fourth, adoption and attention will really soar after final release, which includes much-needed third-party/parties audit of the code and/or feedback.
We aren't there yet. DRK has a dedicated dev, just stop trying to figure out marketing gimmicks.

+1 Nothing is more prone to failure than dozens of techos naming a product or working out how it should be described. We just don't have the human psychology/sociology knowledge/awareness to be making valid judgements in this space. (It's essentially the same problem one has driving into a shopping centre carpark and struggling with confusing sign-age and not knowing how to get out....it was designed by 'shopping centre carpark architects' who have spent way too much time immersed in their world to be able to think like a regular member of the public). Using ad-hoc terminology is fraught with the potential for mass confusion. It's DarkCoin.

Leave the marketing to bitcoin, then just say, "Like bitcoin, but private." The problem is on the surface a lot of people don't realize just how big of a deal this actually is. (Transaction privacy) Now if someone were to publically start mining the blockchain and map payments to companies and aggregate them together based on likely related addresses, and then scour the web for all mentions of bitcoin addresses to link individuals, whether it be a pseudonym or actual identity to an address block... Well then maybe some of the ardent anti-altcoin bitcoiners would come around.

Firstly) In one line say what Darkcoin is as you would explain it to someone who is barely bitcoin literate Secondly) Having a dedicated dev means nothing outside of bitcointalk. It would be assumed that there would be a dedicated team. Thirdly) As for marketing adoption and retention and how to achieve that should be worked on now before release. Fourthly) We're just chatting here and don't represent official sources. Your tone is offensive and I've worked in advertising for 15 years. Fifthly) Kristov seems to be widely acknowledged as a good person to vet the code but we also need to address the privacy aspect - i.e.. usefulness not just code verification from someone who reads out the price of bullets on dark markets
