HODL an Altcoin is not a good option anymore unless you believe that coin will have a good plan, product, and team.
If the price starting to drop, personally I would sell it to prevent my loss.

My thoughts are there is no way to predict what people will do, there are people that are not as patient and cannot hold for long but still I think that the newbies need to understand that the market is not always going to go the way that they thought it would when they first started investing in the coin. There will be dips and unless you are ready to hold then you will not make any money.

I also started with this my investment in altcoins. The mentor spoke -buy coins and hold for 2-3 years and you will be rich  Grin. Perhaps it worked in the market that we saw a year and a half ago, but now it has changed a lot. But if you still stick to the strategy of mindless hold - you may stay with nothing

This strategy of buying something for cheap and holding it for many years is a strategy that works in all markets, the person that is teaching you about cryptocurrencies is right and you are the one that is wrong, you are only seeing things as they are right now but in the future people are going to complain that they missed the chance of buying bitcoin for $6000, because I really do not think that the current prices are going to last and when there is a correction we are never going to see these prices again.

Holding strategy is good in a bull market like in 2016-2017 but we have a bear market now and HODL is not working. But buy low and sell with higher small profits ASAP is still working in this 9-months bear trend for me. But when the new bull market will begin I'll change my strategy to HODLing again.

I think that we need to think about preventing future losses at the stage of purchase, set a stop loss so that you do not go crazy and do not observe how your portfolio decreases with each passing week.

In my opinion, the right time to stop HODL is when you feel that the profit is 2 times the price you bought for your assets, because the profit you get is to buy other digital assets.

This is a good skill to have. The ability to know the right time to hold and the right time to sell the coins is the thing that will help you get the most out of your investments. Knowing the markets and the kind of situations that they are in also helps to tell the right time to hodl the coins. Like now we are in a bear market so this is the right time to hold coins

It is important to understand that today you need to relate to HODL really very, very carefully because today there is an opportunity to lose everything, if you panic, today you will lose everything.

Hold only works for infrastructure projects in other cases long term hold is a losing strategy, because some projects won't survive and you can miss pump to sell tokens for reasonable prices

Even when you believe in a coin of one faith is not enough, look at how many good projects cost nothing, because this is ridiculous. The only thing you can rely on is technical analysis.

if you want big profits you have to be willing to take risks including holding altcoins and believe if prices will go up as long as the project is still running because it's not easy to develop projects, they need time and if everyone doesn't believe how they develop the project. we must be more patient if we want something more.

This is the big problem into holders.
We should not just hold! we should buy more at deep and sell at high.
if we will do this this will make us more richer
holding is good but not good to have.
we should gain more.

In my opinion, holding is one of the most profitable strategies on the cryptocurrency market at the moment, especially if you are not good at trading. I am rather optimistic about the future of the crypto in general, so I believe the price of cryptocurrencies will grow in the future.

You never have to stop holding the coins. These are assets that bring you profit constantly. You can see the minus in your portfolio today, but if you take a period of 2 years, every day will show a plus.

If you do not know how to trade then holding your coins is probably your only option to make money in this market, because investing in new altcoins is not going to be profitable as long as we are in this bear market, now I know there are going to be many stories of people making good money with icos but those people are an exception, unless you are lucky or have an incredible amount of knowledge about the market it is going to be almost impossible to identify which ico is a scam and which one is a project that will become successful.

I'm holding all the coins I don't sell. But always put an order for x2 for short-term pump.

On the example of this year, we can see that the simple retention of cryptocurrency is not always beneficial. There are periods of rise in the cryptocurrency market, which will always be replaced by periods of recessions. Therefore, it would be best to periodically sell parts of the coins at individual price peaks and buy them at a price decline.
In addition, it is also necessary to take into account that each coin or token has its own period of development, after the expiration of which they will no longer be of great profit. Therefore, from time to time it is necessary to focus on newer coins and tokens.

Newbies are usually not hodlers. I think 99% of them are actually panic sellers. If they learn to hodl and control their emotions that would be good thing for them. But of course if their bags are filled with legit coins and not some shilled shitcoins.

Even if newbies consider themselves long term holders that does not mean they are actually one, in my opinion in order to qualify as a long term holder you need to hold your coins for a minimum of one year and you need to hold your coins during a crash of the price, and there are not many people in the forum that can say they did that especially during the last crash where most of the members panicked and sold their coins and only now they are realizing what a huge mistake they have made.
