Current Discussion: World Cup qualifiers - CAF

Don't you just hate it when the international break comes and as an African, you feel left out because there isn't a discussion thread for we Africans to discuss international football like our counterparts. Well that feeling should be a thing of the past as this thread will serve as a dedicated hangout joint for discussion by all forum users (both Africans and foreigners) interested in Africa football.

This thread will be updated with everything Africa football worth discussing, each tournaments, round fixtures, table standing etc. Feel free to drop your prediction on table toppers, match winners and discussion as any tournament progresses etc.

Past Discussion: Africa Football Discussion || Current Topic: WAFCON in FIFA Women's World Cup 2023

Hey guys the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup has kicked off. Why is no one talking about it? Nigeria will be playing against Canada tomorrow at 3:30pm West Africa Time. They are in Group B with teams like Australia, Canada and Republic of Ireland. In this group, Austria already has 3 points leading the group haven beaten Republic of Ireland. From the stats I saw online, Canada has been given a higher probability for winning the match against Nigeria. I doubt that, our females are powerful contenders and my prediction is that the match will either end in a draw or a win in favour of the Nigerian team. What are your preditictions? Which African team do you think is most likely to advance to the finals and if possible win the competition?

Other African teams include South-Africa, Zambia, Morrocco. I hope they make us all proud.

Gladdens me to finally see our African Football Thread Resurrected LOL... Nothing would please me more than seeing the follow up against spamming innit.

Concerning the Transfer Markets, Liverpool are good with the Introduction of Africans that I know, as they did with big names like Sadio Mane, Mohammed Salah, Matip, Baby Kieta etc but currently, I double doubt if they're in for our Nigerian Chukuwueze, he's been monitored and well wanted by Aston Villa ans his former Boss Unai Emery. Liverpool seal deals with Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo, I ain't seeing em chasing any other attacking options again. I'll consider it as speculations.

Kalidou Koullibaly joined Chelsea this season why move him outta Chelsea so fast ? Besides the Senegalese is doing a great job at the heart of the defense with Thiago Silva.

Franck Kessie is more likely to make the move,  I feel like he is uncomfortable with Barcelona at the point in time. But Tottenham Hotspur already has lots of players that plays same role as he does, what is the recruitment for again ? LOL

Finally, AFCON qualifies in a bit, our group seem easy if not for Sierra Leone, aside them Nigeria are sure of taking three points from all of the other sides ( countries )Last year we didn't do well, I hope we go harder and better, can they successfully chase thise playing politics amongst the Nigerian Football Federation ? SMH.

This is a good approach for every persons whether Africans or non Africans to discuss about the latest news about African players including the long awaiting African Cup of Nation. I will be looking forward to this thread to get more info about African players and some related news.

SMH.
Taking a look on the group and the countries that would be playing to qualify for each group, Nigeria and Sierra Leone has more chances to come out from group A just like we have in other groups with countries that is very certain that they will be the first to higher points than the rest.

I think it would be a good move for Franck Kessie to join Tottenham. His abilities are being wasted at Barcelona. He's a very good CM that thrives in the double-pivot system. He's the kind of player Conte likes (physical and technical). When people talk about African players they focus mainly on the physicality of the player which should not be so, especially with Kessie. He's more technical than he is physical. I watched him a lot when he was in Milan and he's a very good midfielder. He can help dictate the game. He knows how to win the ball back and has the technicality needed to deal with the ball when he wins it back. Tottenham would be a good move for him since he not getting any playing time in a Barca anyway.

Kudos for Opening up a new thread! Our African discussions about football and our players almost was not fitting into any where, it is good to have this our board back for strictly discussions regarding African football.

Side Discussion: African player in January transfer market news and rumours
I am still following up on news regarding one of the best African players in the world Sofyan Amrabat from Morocco, looking to see the team that will finally get to sign him in the transfer window. There are rumors about Klopp being interested in signing him for Liverpool, that will be really nice for his career.
source

Leicester and Barcelona are also interested in Azzedine Ounahi, he really had a good display for Morocco.

It now has to do with the the coach now, to pick a better side ready to win games defend and attack from the back,  Sierra Leone are the only side I find a bit stubborn. The rest are countries are far better than when it comes to football.
The problem is that they take bribe for players who are not worth representing the country all for the sake of cash and them greedy desires.

Amrabat has not considered leaving his club yet, those are clearly speculation Liverpool for me doesn't need him ain't Fabinho doing a great job ?
Valid news I got was Leicester City chasing Azzedine Oumahi  not Barcelona, I doubt if Madison would remain with Leicester City next season , so it's a good move for him. Move. To Barcelona ? Completely playing around.

Another African player that klopp will disrespect? I doubt if klopp wants sign another African playing due to his last comment he made on the previous AFCON tournament that he had to lose his two top players to the competition (Sadio Mane and Mo Salah). Nevertheless Sofyan Amrabat will definitely bring an upgrade to the Liverpool midfield since they have been poor in that area and it's contributing to the poor season that they're having.

Any body knows any update on Victor Osimhen and the transfer window, I think he has to be the hottest African footballer at the moment and he should better take advantage of this to secure himself a big money move to a top club either in the premier league or the la Liga side. A side that can compete for the champions league and not only fighting for domestic titles.

I agree with you that Sofyan Amrabat is one of the hottest prospects in African football at the moment. His superb performance for Morocco in the world cup has certainly earned him some level of recognition in Europe and attracted Klopp who sees him as a good addition and someone who will add strength to Liverpool's defense. Still no news from Napoli concerning Victor Osimhen, I think the club is still holding strong on their decision to keep the player at the club past this January transfer window.

I can recall how much he did against Spain, that was really top crazy performance for Morroco, news about top European sides wanting him rumoured around but he didn't get that affect how he displayed in the  next game against portugal who they also won.
Why should he even consider moving to Liverpool when they already have Fabinho as the first choice for that position.

Victor Oshime outta Napoli seem like a complete joke, they'll never let him go right now because if such happens, they're it'll will surely retard the strength and energy of them other players they still need him.

Victor Oshime outta Napoli seem like a complete joke, they'll never let him go right now because if such happens, they're it'll will surely retard the strength and energy of them other players they still need him.
It looks like he is really happy and comfortable there and it has affected his performance positively. It will be a good decision if he decides to stay or the club decides to keep him, whichever way you decide to put it. Moving to another club at this time may slow down his performance because he will struggle to adapt to another set of players and another type of play. Stay in a club that values your input, win trophies for them first, and then maybe he can decide to move to another league for another experience and form of competition.

Aboubakar has seen his Al-Nassr contract CANCELLED, could he be on his way to Manchester united or which clubs do you think will be favorable the hm?

The Cameroonian will depart the club to make way for Ronaldo as Saudi league rules state that clubs can only register up to eight foreign players per squad. The club were aware that by adding Ronaldo to their squad, they would have to ship one of their stars out. According to reports in France, Aboubakar mutually agreed to terminate his contract and will be compensated by the club.

He is now a free agent and can choose his next destination with reports suggesting Manchester United have shown an interest in bringing him to Old Trafford this month.
Source: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11611589/amp/Ronaldos-best-known-new-team-mate-Vincent-Aboubakar-seen-Al-Nassr-contract-CANCELLED.html

What do you guys think about Aboubakar situation, will he finally get the chance to perform at top club as he has always wanted and do you think he fits the Manchester united project or he'll flop as Ighalo did by not getting enough play time. Do you think he should make the move or not then wait for another team to pick interest in him?

Personally I think he doesn't fit Erik ten Hag project most especially as he's now old and that's the same problem Ronaldo was facing which is lack of speed to help In their counter attack strategy.

What do you guys think about Aboubakar situation,
As far as I know Aboubakar has had many ups and downs in his career & achievements in the world of football, even though Aboubakar has currently ended his contract with Al Nassr, I think this is normal and there are no problems for Aboubakar, it was easy for Aboubakar to continue his contract at famous clubs like Man United and others, considering that the Saudi League has special rules for foreign players, only eight players are allowed, because of Aboubakar's position at the Al Nassr club as a striker, they prefer Cristiano Ronaldo and have to give up Aboubakar to terminate the contract at Al Nassr, in my opinion it is for the good of the Al Nassr club in the future.

On the other hand we know the Turkish Club, also want Aboubakar to be at their club, on another occasion also something good can happen to Aboubakar, I see that from one of the sources who stated.
Quote
Manchester United have 'agreed a deal' to sign Vincent Aboubakar.

After all, Manchester United are also targeting several players in the striker position for 2023 and in the future, I am very sure that the Cameroon player will choose Man United as the final destination over other clubs, I am sure of that.

Soon Al-Nassr realize the huge mistake they had made selling a brilliant talent like young Aboubakar who is 30 years old for a Ronaldo who is 38-years old. I would have had no qualms if Ronaldo had been his age. How well will an old Ronaldo perform in the Saudi League? On other hand, Aboubakar will play well for Manchester United if the rumors are true. and this will greatly advance his career. Right now, Manchester United needs a striker who can frighten the rival defense. These are the attributes he possesses. He is physically fit, quick, deadly, and obviously quite self-confident.

There will a lot of pressure on Ronaldo to immediately start to perform. He had a had time scoring goals in Manchester United and even the world cup, so hopefully he has moved past that and has returned to goal scoring form. Having Aboubakar who has been good too as somebody to fall back to on days when they need goals and Ronaldo cannot deliver would have been a good option too for them instead of putting dependence now only on Ronaldo and any other substitute striker they had before.

It offers Aboubakar a good chance though to in another league.

Aboubakar is a good player and Al-Nassr would kept him in there. If Aboubakar is 30 and Ronaldo is 38, that doesn't changed anything, both of them are still strong on the pitch. But Ronaldo will not do well as it was again because the way he performed in the world cup, shows that the player (Ronaldo) is week in the pitch. He is not like before again. But he might still be the champion in the Saudi Arabia league.

Vincent Aboubakar's contract has been terminated by Al-Nassr already, Manchester United on the other side has said they never approached Vincent Aboubakar as he wasn't on them wish list. I isee all of that as rumours. He should be with Besiktas currently trying to reach agreement, it's one of the drawback to the Dutch player Wout Weghorst transfer move to Manchester United.

I see what Al-Nassr are trying to do, they just want to play the football all around Ronaldo, unlike the way it was at Manchester United.
About the age of Aboubakar, he's not the first to be signed at the same age, other examples are, Edison Cavani, Odion Igalo and Cristiano Ronaldo.

ARSENAL & CHELSEA TARGET WILFRIED ZAHA TIPPED FOR A FREE TRANSFER TO EUROPEAN GIANTS:
Kevin Hatchard says it ‘makes sense’ for Arsenal and Chelsea transfer target Wilfried Zaha to secure a move to Barcelona when his Crystal Palace contract expires. The 30-year-old has put some of Europe’s top teams on alert ahead of the summer window, including the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, with his current deal at Selhurst Park running out in less than six months.

European football expert Hatchard says it ‘makes sense’ for the all-action winger to sign for La Liga giants, Barcelona, with Xavi looking at players of his quality. It has been well-documented in previous transfer windows that Arsenal wanted to sign Zaha, but in the end , a move didn’t happen and he stayed put.

What's do you guys think about this rumours as I believe, Wilfried zaha the Ivory Coast national team player is bigger than his current club as a player with his quality is meant to be playing at top club and in European competition like the champions league to show cast his talent. He has been rumoured in severally transfer window but nothing has happened as he keep killing his career playing for crystal palace.

Do you think he should force a move out of his current club (crystal palace) this time around or he should keep playing since he's now in his 30's and many will say he has gone passed his peak and might have nothing more to offer especially if he gets signed to a new club that'll need him to get the ground kicking immediately, should he stay or move..

Wilfred Zaha has been linked to several clubs like a return to boyhood club Manchester United, Arsenal for over a long time now, When Arsene Wenger was head Coach of Arsenal with Mikel Arteta presently, I still don't know what could be the internal issues he is currently having that makes the push ouutaa the club difficult for him to achieve.

The move to Barcelona ? Having Raphina and Dembele,Ferran Torres and Fati, who would be dropped for Wilfred Zaha ? Is he a typical La ma Sia kind of player, I don't think he fits and settles welsk for tiki taka. I don't see him making a possible switch to Barcelona.

Do you think he should force a move out of his current club (crystal palace) this time around or he should keep playing since he's now in his 30's and many will say he has gone passed his peak and might have nothing more to offer especially if he gets signed to a new club that'll need him to get the ground kicking immediately, should he stay or move..
I used to think that he was comfortable playing in  crystal palace because of the respect they have for him there and the name he has built for himself there as well. He is in his 30's and now could be a great chance to try out his talen in another big team instead of just wanting to play to retirement in crystal palace.  Take Casimero for instance.

I have watched  Zaha play, and seen his movement on the ball, He still has something to offer any team that signs him.

Personally I think it’s too late for him because of his playing pattern. Zaha is the kind of player that loves to be the pointed man or the main man in team. At Crystal palace he just drives the ball and at 30 I don’t see him do much of that. A move to a big team might need him to settle in a little bit and at this age Zaha doesn’t has that time. He missed a great opportunity when his move to Arsenal didn’t go through.

It’s quite different comparing him to Casemiro. Casemiro was played for Real Madrid for almost all his life, winning titles most importantly 5 UCL with this experience he can settle into any team in the world. Not withstanding that they both play a different role.
