XMR performs well during the huge bitcoin pump while other altcoins mainly go down. This is exciting to see XMR is adopted by the mainstream in dark net.   Grin

Can someone explain to me why you would have extra code at the end of your wallet address?

Example:    423XT9hcut3gQR6kw5pPpSXivmW1m3PqA2nLHGLbx5RzbSynrRUZizPN5EW2kDDZAafZrQTsY2utxTF gQAryiiCgFgQhi71.4d8ddccc40568d93

After the address you have .4d8ddccc40568d93     Is this a payment ID or something used by mining pools.  An integrated address?  If so how is this code generated and how do you find or chose one for your wallet or mining pool if applicable

Thanks

Assuming you're talking about the wallet address setting in your miner software for pool mining, yes, that's most likely the payment ID that the pool operator uses for payouts.

Like in normal payments, if you're using your own wallet (i.e. you have the wallet seed), you don't need to generate a payment ID for receiving funds. Payment IDs are intended to be useful for exchanges and merchants where they need to know who sent which funds; e.g. an exchange would issue a unique payment ID per customer to manage deposit balances.

So, if you're pool mining directly to your account on an exchange, you'd know the payment ID assigned to you by the exchange. Otherwise, you don't need to care about it; your wallet address alone suffices.

I’m pretty sure Surae and the MRL gang is on the case. I remember at the NY meetup him basically talking about (I’m paraphrasing here) how he inherently doesn’t trust the algorithm because it was created by the bytecoin devs.

Wasn't the algorithm created by Nicholas von Saberhagen, and the bytecoin devs just implemented it in C?

Nobody really knows or isn't saying, and if they did, shouldn't be believed without verifiable evidence.

Quote
Besides, how much of the original C code are we running nowadays anyway? Less than 5%, isn't it?

I don't know of a number for that, but the PoW hashing code was completely rewritten as well as having documentation added.

Why did the hashrate increase by 25%, just because Nicehash went down?

Is that from "show_transfers"? If so, it's just formatted improperly. That is, it shows address - amount - short/encrypted payment ID, but there should be spaces between them in order to have proper formatting.

I've got an inscription in mymonero
"Your account is catching up, your details may be out-of-date until it is finished (38189 blocks behind). This is not an error, and you do not have to do anything except wait until it is complete."

Yesterday was 37570 blocks. Guess it will take a very long time. Transactions doesn't work. Please tell me what can I do to send my XMR now? Huh

I think there's a way to use your seed to restore your monero in the regular monero client, but you might need a special tool like luigi's xmr.llcoins.net/addresstests.html
because there are three different methods for generating keys from seed.  They're not compatible, I think you have to do some kind of conversion.
Can someone please advise him?

“As cryptocurrencies become more popular, it’s important that my fans have choices when it comes to how they buy my songs and merchandise,” said rap star G-Eazy in a statement. “Given Monero is one of the safest, most secure and most private cryptocurrencies, it’s one of the best options for my fans this holiday season — and just in time for my new album.”

Rofl what? Well, hey, thanks for the endorsement Mr. "G-Eazy". Or is it just Mr. Eazy and G is the first name? How did this become a thing? Did "G-Eazy" just call up his "nigga" FluffyPony on a lazy Saturday afternoon and be like "Hey you know I was thinking"? There HAS to be a story behind this.

This is not related xmr, but for security and privacy for sure, so I dare to ask here.

How likely is it that an infecdet android phone behaves as a keylogger when it is connected via wifi to a laptop?

So the laptop is connected via wifi to the android phone and the android phone is connected to the internet. Is it even possible anyhow to phone log the pressed keys of the laptop when the connection between the laptop and the phone is made by the wifi?

I think it is almoust impossible, or else we would have huge keylogger problem since wifi is widely used not just privatly but also on many other public premises.

I am worried about that any kryptos seed could be stolen this way.

So what do you think?

In these New Year holidays (from December 26, Christmas) 45 very popular musicians and 5 online stores will accept payment on their websites using Monero. There is a possibility of growth on the background of this, since the musicians are very famous https://goo.gl/HheCSD

If it was possible it would be a pretty wonky attack vector. The highest hanging fruit one might say. Almost everyone who gets hacked around here has it happen in one of two ways. First is phishing links. Possibly to malware but usually to fake web wallets that appear convincing. The second is crypto currency related software with malware hidden inside. Could be some sort of wallet for some dinky alt coin. Or mining software. You get the gist. Someone else chime in if you I'm missing something here but that probably accounts for 99% of it.

There are a few that never knew how they got hacked so it's a good idea to secure against ever vector you can. I think I posted something on similar android vulnerabilities not to long ago you might want to search on that pönde.
