+1 signature post well played

Dash.... nah I wont bother for a change.

We better fix these imaginary problems quickly!

WTF are they doing in the research group. Writing and testing white papers and concepts, when they should be imagining and presuming things.

Signature post? Do you realize that I haven't posted on this forum for months, if I would be after signature referrals, I would have not been inactive for so long.

No, I have just bought more Monero a couple weeks ago, and my Monero holdings are now big enough to be concerned about risks like that.

Yeah so I must be a troll for pointing out potential risks here ,which have already happened in the past by the way, so I am not pulling things out of my ass.

Somebody was talking that there will be xmr hard fork already on 15th january. Is there any link for that?

There is a routine hard fork every 6 months though.

This is very interesting. This is the first time I heard about this. This tells me the devs are foregoing short term convenience and are taking the hard road of making Monero better and better.

I am using a Monero wallet that I downloaded many months ago. Is it still supported?

Also, if I have my Monero in the developers wallet, will I get additional coins if there is a hardfork?

Thanks,  G.P.

There is a big focus on the privacy and the features but I think this is actually one of the coolest and most over-looked aspects of this project. It was done to avoid the sort of governance gridlock problems that bitcoin has. It was pretty experimental at the time but so far it's working really well. Monero is actually adaptable. We used to have a block time of 1 minute. But after collecting actual real world data over a period of time it was determined that this was too fast. No problem for monero. The switch to 2 minute blocks went off without a hitch. Can you imagine doing that with bitcoin? And that's a pretty superficial example. Big changes too like Ring-CT and bulletproofs and maybe sidechains someday are also no problem.

The first link however is interesting. I wasn't aware of that. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Meh, I told them RPC was an attack vector years ago and my statements were ignored and then I was told not to worry about it as 0mq was coming to the rescue. I also tried to vet 0MQ but did not get cooperation in my attempts so gave up. Hopefully it was professionally vetted but my questions on the subject were never answered. I just got trolled about using the term wrapper for the interface and got sick of trying. Also I was making an argument for this, which I am glad was the end result.

Quote
In addition, the official Monero GUI doesn't use the RPC layer, and directly implements the libwallet_api for all its wallet functions.

I recall those events. In the end its hard to separate the willing from the trolls at points.

And, I think, the team have largely moved off to their own  forum. Just us stubborn guys still here echoing.

There isn't really a forum any more* mostly just reddit, twitter, IRC, and github (issues and PRs) for technical discussion. And still here of course. Thanks for the shout out @Hueristic.

* It is still used for FFS but nothing else.

Bitcoin and US Dollar have a long history of funding crime and terrorism. Actually all successful means of payment do.
So unless you use seashells as payment you are in the same boat. Do you have "an army"?
And btw, you mean an entire army, with tanks and submarines and aircraft carriers? Cheesy

Analysts at a US cybersecurity firm have detected an apparent new installer for a virus that mines Monero and sends it to a university in Pyongyang, North Korea.

As the cybersecurity firm AlienVault reported Jan. 8, the malware surfaced around Christmas Eve and contains facilities that automatically deposit Monero to a wallet associated with North Korea’s Kim Il Sung University.

The first instance I have seen of the exploitation of the vulnerability that sub-addresses is intended to fix. We can't get sub addresses soon enough.

Haven't read the 'article', but is it believable?  I've found in recent years that anything with NK in the headline (or cointelegraph in the address bar) is frequently FUD or sensationalism.  Is there a source?  Regardless,  sub-addresses incoming in days, IIUC.

Thanks,  G.P.

1. You'll have to upgrade in advance of the hard fork. There'll be ample time to do this though and it'll be announced well in advance.

2. No. This is a consensual scheduled protocol upgrade.
