You can't stop anyone from harvesting. Each account makes it's own decision

It's their call no one can stop them. Although I must say I wouldn't do that...

If they really do, I hope they're doing it on some separate node, not on the node they use for getting information.
So exchanges are like banks then? Charge a fee to buy & sell and use the parked XEM for a high POI score so they can harvest blocks for the txs fees.

People hate banks for the profits they make off us but I guess it's ok for exchanges.

Well, this is a problem.
Many people send to Poloniex and increase her PoI. Already at 10%, no way to avoid this, ok?
it is possible attack the network with a significant amount of PoI?

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

It's always a bad idea to leave your crypto's at exchanges for more time than you need to. People should know this. See my signature and you know what I mean.

Some questions on the reddit thread of someone wants to answer?
http://www.reddit.com/r/OurNEM/comments/32yevb/max_number_of_harvesters_on_server_please_try/

Max number of harvesters on server, please try again later
What is the max number of harvesters allowed on NEM servers?
Also, this is a distributed blockchain platform, so I was surprised to see this message. Is NEM running on a few centrally controlled servers until post BETA where the development team will release the client software package to run on client and node PCs? Or will NEM core always be partly run on local servers?

NEM   NanoWallet   SuperNodes   Apostille   Landstead   Catapult   Mijin

POI is not in percent but in permyriad.
Their POI is not 10.12 percent but 10.12 permyriad.
And 10.12 permyriad = 0.1012 percent.

trying to start delegated harvesting but gettingthis error :

ERROR 700

The provided account does not satisfy the basic criteria for harvesting. Mainly it is related to the amount of XEM within the account. Harvesting starts with at least 1000 XEM.

I have 300000 XEM in my wallet.

we need to be listed on this:

"Genesis Trading, a wholly owned subsidiary of Digital Currency Group (DCG), allows investors to buy and sell large blocks of digital currencies, including bitcoin, litecoin and ripple, and follows strict AML/KYC procedures, according to O'Connor."

http://cointelegraph.com/news/113988/first-licensed-digital-currency-broker-dealer-genesis-trading-launches-in-the-us

This is pretty exiting news.

Before if a billionaire in Europe wanted to play around with Bitcoin and pick up a million dollars worth he has to buy them on Local Bitcoins or buy through some unregistered exchange in a shifty country.

Now that guy can pick up the coin through a fairly recognized and safe channel that speaks his language.

T - 10 and counting.

You get vested at 10% a day so tomorrow at this time you will have 30,000 vested and can harvest on that. The day after you'll have 57,000 vested and so on.

No it's not a necessary evil. Why would it be necessary for anyone to leave any coin on an exchange ?
If you want to sell something deposit the amount you want to sell on an exchange. Keep the rest in your wallet.

It's really baffling that people still keep coins on exchanges. How many compromised exchanges does it take for people to learn ? I guess always 1 more.

Of course it's possible to attack the network if you have a higher POI score then the rest of the harvesters combined.
I mean I'm not a dev but I don't see why this would be different for POI than for POS, PoW or any other system.

not baffling really when the NEM software stops working all the time. Since this latest upgrade I can't access my wallet anymore Sad

Any help please? Even though it says NIS and NIC is running it will not let me open my wallet. The NCC will not work...

Any chance you're connected to a remote NIS and that NIS isn't available anymore ?
In that case it won't help much if your local NIS is running.
Also nice that "it's not working right now for you" is translated into "stops working all the time".

Like Toma said though...it'll be easier to help you on the official forum Smiley
