I think that you shouldn't put paper, carton or anything easily inflammable near your rig, don't think?

lots of guys build rigs on top of old motherboard boxes, plywood, and other materials, this is no different. I've seen  really nice rigs made entirely from wood. And  no, i don't think it's that dangerous. Everything is fuse and breaker protected, and we build with flammable materials in our homes and offices all the time.

And  no, i don't think it's that dangerous. Everything is fuse and breaker protected, and we build with flammable materials in our homes and offices all the time.

It would have to heat up to 200-300-400c before it caught fire. Even if the cooling failed the computer would crash/shut off long before that. The fan would melt off long before that.

Black asphalt in the summer is probably hotter and I'm not aware of cardboard bursting into flames.

The problem is not that the computer is going to act like a stove and start the cardboard on fire via heat transfer, but that if the computer happens to catch on fire, it's going to spread easily via the cardboard.

Ehh, No big deal. There are about 50 different flame proofing treatments for cardboard on the market. You just paint / spray the products on thick enough to penetrate the cardboard, let it dry, and the cardboard will no longer support a flame. I think it's totally over kill, in reality, but it's cheap and easy to do.

permanent and less craptastic manifold for the blower.

This is our final setup, two rigs with four 5830 each. All cards currently clocked at 950Mhz, hottest card at 69°C (The one in the middle at the bottom).
We had them all four squeezed together on the board but they just got too hot (80°C @ 900Mhz), so I built this frame to rise one card up and also fix the others in place.

Image quality is kinda bad, I will post better pictures as soon as I get my hands on a real camera.

yes those are lego...and duplo...It's a holdover until I get some time to build the wood frame.  Two 6970's at ~360MH/s on stock voltage and one 5830 at 270MH/s, also on stock voltage...all running on linuxcoin.  Using the GPU fans @ 50% they all hover around 73C in my basement drawing 720 watts.

The frame (GPU suspension) is made from old STABIL Metal Building Kit parts I inherited from my dad and borrowed from my 8yo son. 

A fourth GPU is forthcoming, as are two big-ass case fans that I will somehow mount on this so they blow inbetweeen the cards.

I will add a third dummyplug and put that thing into a friends basement for free electricity, remote-controlled with logmein.
the cards are 6950 (1GB unflasheable) running at 840core / 800mem for 1050mHash/s altogether.

First Cases are on its way, and ill rebuild in the next days.
